  • Henry VIII is one of the most infamous and brutal Kings in History, and he is known for executing two of his own wives and around 70,000 inside of his Kingdom of England. He executed some of his victims inside the walls of the Tower of London, and it was there where one of the King's most brutal and savage executions took place. Margaret Pole was the Countess of Salisbury, who had royal blood as she was one of the remaining members of the Plantagenet family who ruled England. Her father also was executed in the Tower of London as he was drowned in malmsey wine. But during the reign of Henry VIII, the notorious King stamped down on Margaret Pole.
    Margaret's son Reginald was a senior figure in the Catholic church and he became a Cardinal. But he was also the leading critic of Henry VIII and he also encouraged people to rebel inside of the Kingdom, and with this became Henry VIII's biggest enemy. But Margaret Pole also fell under suspicion, and with this was arrested and also imprisoned inside the Tower of London. She was around the age of 65 when she was imprisoned, and she was held as the King's prisoner for 2 years before she was then executed. But the elderly Margaret Pole's execution allegedly took more than 10 swings from the axe to take her life. It was performed by a 'blundering and wretched,' axeman who did not perform his job well. Today it is considered one of the most brutal executions of the Tudor period.

    Margaret Pole's execution was totally unnecessary and Henry VIII must have been completely paranoid to agree for her death. She was completely innocent and suffered a horrific death, may she rest in peace.

    This definitely was the most brutal execution and the worst part was he was related to Margaret. She was a fighter till the very end. Henry was so paranoid about her taking his crown. There was never any indication she ever wanted the throne. Henry was a monster.

    Margaret Pole was executed because she was a Plantagenet and could have had a claim to the throne and this worried Henry as he was only the second Tudor monarch and the dynasty had a very tenuous claim to rule and virtually no Royal blood. Henry was paranoid about his successor so he had a very elderly lady brutally killed.

      No royal blood? Elizabeth of York was literally his mother, the dsughter of Edward IV and the sister of Edward V.

    • @crazyviking24
      @crazyviking24 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Henry VIII's grandmother (through his father), Margaret Beaufort was a Plantagenet as was his mother Elizabeth of York. Ironically I don't know if the various last names that historians use were ever actually used in historical documents etc. The term "Plantagenet" seems to have been a term that referred to Geoffrey of Anjou due to him using a sprig of broom plant to show where he was on the battle field. Historians then apply this term to the English monarchs from Henry II to Richard III but will also sometimes insist on starting the term with Henry III and use the term Angevin Empire with Henry 2, Richard 1 and John and will act as if Henry 7 and the Tudors weren't Plantagenet even though the mother of Henry was a Plantagenet (she was descended from John of Gaunt, the father of Henry 4) and his wife was Plantagenet being the daughter of Edward 4. So perhaps it is more accurate to say that the terms Tudor, Plantagenet, etc from a historians' perspective are more accurate as a means of marking branches of the same royal family or possibly the different periods of English history. I honestly do not know if the term Plantagenet is actually mentioned in the Medieval accounts.

      Margaret Pole was murdered to send a message. One of her sons was on the continent making trouble and allying himself with the Church in Rome. Henry couldn't get to him, so he murdered the Poles he could get to.
      And as someone else said, the Tudors were also technically Plantagents. As were the Stuarts.

      Was Henry vii that had teddy executed, he had a stronger claim to the throne. The Tudor’s reign started by killing a king and that’s how the whole reign went down, between Henry vii, Henry viii, Edward, Mary and Elizabeth executed 100,000s all down to paranoia because they weren’t true heirs. Margaret Beaufort has a lot to answer for.

    The older Henry VIII got,the more paranoid and bloodthirsty he became..rightfully or wrongly there was ,more and more,those who did rebel against his tyranny and greed upon the monasteries and wealth of the Abbeys and riches the Catholic monks had accumulated.Hiding behind his zeal to promote his church as primary across the UK,it was but an excuse to pad his coffers .And he took full advantage of his ability and power to eradicate any who point that out as truth or questioned his motives.To me ,this may have been a combined result of his massive head injury in the jousting incident and prompting by sinister self promoting advisors in his ear constantly feeding his paranoia.

  • @louisavondart9178

    More like 50,000 executions but who's counting. Everyone goes on about how Henry the Eighth was paranoid but show me a monarch of the time that wasn't. Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean you don't have enemies. Personally, I believe that Henry suffred severe brain damage in a jousting accident in 1536 and this caused his murderous moods. Poor Margaret....

Apparently the bishop or duke has opened his doors to feed the poor but little did they chef had poisoned the soup in the hope to knock the bishop / duke off. It backfired because the bishop / duke wasn’t particularly hungry that evening so evaded the attempted murder though that cannot be said for the people who ate the soup.

    • @amatulfulani6390
      @amatulfulani6390 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They were still rivals to the throne. Henry Tudor (Tudor from the House of Lancaster) defeated Richard III (House of York) at the Battle of Bosworth, becoming the King of England. They were still rivals even though they married to create a unified house for England, ending the Wars of the Roses.
      Also Henry VII killed Teddy (from the House of York) because he was seen as a threat to Tudor rule. So you could still say they were enemies in a sense, though they married for political reasons.

    70,000 executions during Henry VIII's reign many of those at the Tower of London.
    I read that in its 1,000 year history only 22 people were executed inside the tower - of course we Brits keep that quiet because it's bad for tourism !
    Additionally, about 100 were executed on Tower Hill and not all those by Henry VIII.
    So only a tiny percentage of executions were held "at" the TOL, but they were the most famous ones of course
