    OMG so true about deformed curls from plopping! Slinky plop - love it!! Going to try. Thanks for sharing. I too have fine, low density shorter hair. Enjoy your videos. :)

    We are for sure hair twins. Shorter, fine, lower density, high porosity, colored, wavy/curly. I discovered you yesterday when Alyson mentioned you on her Instagram story and have been eating up all your content since then! I can't WAIT to see your full product application method, I see that other people have requested it and you've added it to your list :) I'm six months in and still haven't found one I'm totally in love with. I'm hoping yours will work as well for me as it does for you and I can finally stop experimenting and have a go-to! Would make wash days a lot less confusing and time consuming. Thank you for your videos!!

    I see that we got to similar conclusions lately. Most of my hair is high porosity (except roots), so it gets super wet and super heavy and sticks to my skin. I stopped doing anything upside down - not washing not squishtocondishing, I don't plop at all and it made a huge difference! No flat roots, less tangles, no nests and better definition. I think it's really important to get everybody in the place while wet, towel drying is a really crucial prelude to styling in my experience. Maybe the classic approach works well on lower porosities, but it's def not for me.
    I rope scrunch the roots of individual clumps with t-shirt/microfibre or even tissues (I reuse them for my nose later 🤣) and do the rest your way and I'm happy. I like that you are using your platform responsibly and keep searching and questioning everything, instead of spreading misinformation. You deserve all the subs you have and more! ❤️

      ocandro I have found the same. Btw, ocandro, what you are saying is just what @curlyninja does with her hair 😉

    • @ocandro
      @ocandro 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FionaC1 I know, I follow her too, I love her styling techniques a lot! I do it just a touch differently because my hair is looser and I have to be careful not to mess up my clumps! And I strongly disagree with her on squish to condish, I use it every time, just not upside down.

    • @FionaC1
      @FionaC1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ocandro 😉
      I took a tip from Kat in that one and I only do maybe 3-4 squishes and minimal scrunching. I was convinced I’d have no curl without lots of scrunching but actually my hair curls better and my scalp is no longer on display! lol

    • @ocandro
      @ocandro 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FionaC1 I think we might be separated at birth! 😁 I barely use any stylers near my roots now (or I water down residue I have on my hands from application and only use that), because I don't want separate clumps near the scalp or I look like Gollum. I also like to take a narrow brush and massage it like 3 times back and forth on the parting, to fluff out the clumps and hide the skin. It feels wonderful and gives me a nice lift.
      I agree on scrunching too much, I use it mostly to squeeze the abundance of water and leave it alone or I get tangled frizz. The curls form on their own, once the weight is off, especially with my precious Xtava diffuser.

    I normally "plop" (and then leave the towel up for half an hour cause I'm doing a million other things), never have great clumping, and roots were flat as. Accidentally did something similar to this when I was in a rush and just wanted moisture out before diffusing, ended up looking better. Glad to see a video on it that explains more.

      I love combining products (2 creams, 2 mousses, 2 gels or more etc) and I also have some discontinued favorites that I use! That said currently available products that I like are AG Recoil, Curlsmith Foam followed by a firmer mousse like G2b Volumaniac if they still make that? For gel I like Curlsmith In Shower Styler mixed with Jessicurl Spiralicious. I always combine the latter with stronger gels otherwise it gets too heavy and my hair gets flat without enough hold but it's great for keeping moisture in during the winter and keeping frizz out in the summer. I do like the controversial Deva Curl Volumizing Foam but my bottles are not the latest iterations, miine are 1st and 2nd generation. I think they are on 3rd or 4th now so I cannot attest to how those work. Hope that helps.@@matlinwhitten7800

      @@rmcknight923 well I like to stop diffusing with 10-15% wet. Then I like it to be able to set in that state and not scrunch it out the moment it's dry. So I like 2 hours from the moment I hop into the shower to the moment I leave the house. But of some of that time I'm obviously doing other things. If I had to diffuse till dry I'm guessing 1:10. But I only wash every 3-5 days, usually at night so I don't mind and I usually a lot myself enough time. Anything I don't have to do when I wake up is good. Night owl here.

    Late to this party. I will try. My hair is not thin necessarily, but medium texture and fine , but my hair is a beach wave, not curls and can get frizzy in parts. I’m going to try this because I think the upside down thing will annoy me since I use the twist method still. lol. Been doing that my entire life. My hair isn’t short. It’s medium length and I don’t use a lot of products. Some salt spray or some lolavie detangler and I do use conditioner in the shower and sometimes a leave in but I don’t want to weigh it down. I have wave , not curl. This is very informative.. thanks

      @fitkatstyle4388  ปีที่แล้ว

      Report back how it goes. A little gel to help hold the wave will help you see more wave and show it’s potential. If it is crunchy don’t worry. That’s holding he curl i. Place as it dries. Just scrunch it gently to release the cast or crunchiness. Thanks for stopping by and sharing!

    I have very fine, wavy/curly hair. The back of my hair doesn't like to hold curl at all. I'll air dry, diffuse, plop, scrunch etc. and the back of my hair will look curly. However, when I look at the back again, in about a 2 minute time span, my curl is pretty much gone. So, I'll wet it down again, scrunch, etc. again and get the same results. After several failed attempts, I decide to throw my hair up in a ponytail. Do you have any recommendations/advice for me regarding this issue? Thanks!

    • @fitkatstyle4388
      @fitkatstyle4388  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      What styling products are you using? I am guessing you need some protein. Try a leave in or styling products that have protein in the top 5 ingredients if you can. You can also try a beer rinse too and that often will perk the curls up with a bit a protein. But a hold product will be needed to help them stay too. Try a gel for that.

      My ends dry very quickly, don't really look shiny like the roots of my hair and also get very dry over the course of a few days between washes. I feel like the ends of my hair can handle (ie-absorb) more product and heavier product than I initially would have expected. But on my roots those products feel like they sit on top. So high porosity means it absorbs a lot and low means the opposite. I also had a hair analysis done that confirmed what I already had deduced from my own experience.

    🤔 if your roots are really wet they cannot be low porosity. Porous refers to an object’s ability to absorb => if your roots are absorbing a lot of water and staying wet they are *high* porosity. An object with low porosity doesn’t absorb (eg plastic wrap)
    Plopping messes my hair up bad too! I do what you call “micro-plopping” (ie, quick scrunch with a microfibre towel or T-shirt) which helps a lot. 😊

    • @fitkatstyle4388

      I agree with the initial part of your definition about porosity but if you think about it this way, why would my healthy roots be higher porosity than my old dry, damaged ends?? Its not that they absorb more water it's just that the water that does get under the tighter cuticle at the roots in the shower, also has a harder time escaping b/c the cuticle is more closed. Which is why my roots get build up easier and the are also more prone to staying more shiny after styling while my ends will look dry by the next day b/c the moisture has escaped the ends much more quickly than the roots. Here's an article by Tonya McKay Becker a polymer scientist and cosmetic chemist that explains it better than I can. www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/learn/curlchemist-porosity-and-curly-hair

      FitKat Style You’ve been CGM for 4 years and your hair is not that long - your ends are not that damaged are they? Your description of your hair perfectly fits high porosity. I’ll watch your video [edit - sorry read the blog 😉] and see what she says, but in the meantime here is another one that says the same - though she *actually* proves the opposite. The “high porosity” sponge still has twice as much water after an hour than the “low porosity” one - it lost more water because there is a saturation limit, but still was twice as heavy with water:

      FitKat Style Where does she say that high porosity hair loses water? She says high porosity hair absorbs a lot of water, and that it is hard to moisturise low porosity hair if it gets dry. Let me grab the quotes:
      “Hair with a great deal of porosity has been found to be capable of absorbing significantly higher amounts of water than hair or normal or low porosity”
      “If hair with very few or very small openings becomes dry for some reason, it can be difficult to restore the proper moisture balance to it. In this case, a deep conditioning treatment with moderate heat would be a good way to ensure the cuticle is sufficiently opened up to allow moisture to enter into the cortex.”
      I disagree with her that high = damaged and low = healthy. Either can be a naturally healthy state.

      @@FionaC1 you're right she doesn't say that in this article. I agree, either porosity can be a naturally healthy state! I think it's safe to say that with either porosity it's easy for the roots to just remain a little more wet as the ends get more of the absorption from the blotting, plopping, and air flow 😉
