    I’ve had my turbosmart bov on mk7.5 R before It was even tuned with an apr intake, muffler delete, and Inlet pipe and didn’t feel like it loss any power.
    Now my R is on E85, with upgraded fuel pumps, MPI, hybrid turbo, catless donwpipe, upgraded intercooler and piped, and aluminum intake manifold. Makes around 530 to the wheels with the turbosmart. I love that it’s not annoying like the ones people put in their ST’s where it’s always being heard obnoxiously lol

    As someone already mentioned. It doesn't blow while shifting gears because the Dsg shift up while on the throttle. A full manual will blow off because of the momentum of pressing on the clutch and letting off the gas while changing gear. In a DSG we don't need to let go of the throttle.

    The mk7 doesn’t have a maf, it actually has a map sensor which is after the bov so it won’t affect performance at all since it remeasures the air anyways. The older 2013 and before had a maf which was on the intake so it had already measured the air and counted on it still being there. Hope that make sense

  • @Krauser1226
    @Krauser1226 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    A DSG car won't blow off on throttle. It keeps boost because the transmission shifts fast enough and keeps engine load. The DSG farts on shifting is because the ECU is cutting spark when you shift on throttle but still injecting fuel so the engine doesn't actually burn that air fuel mixture and just sends it out the exhaust valves. The DSG farts is that air fuel mixture hitting the hot exhaust turbine of the turbo and igniting in the exhaust manifold. This is why you only get DSG farts on throttle and they get louder the more on throttle you are. So yeah, the stock diverter valve doesn't release pressure either on shifting in a DSG, it just shifts on throttle and the ECU cuts spark when it receives the signal to shift from the TCU/when you click the paddle to upshift. It's also why downshifting while on throttle is slow and why upshifting on braking is slow too. It's just not what the ECU is expecting.
    Also, to my knowledge, flutter is fine, but never fine in any circumstances of being on throttle. The flutter you hear (if it's truly turbo flutter) is excess air that can't escape out the BOV so forces it's way back through the turbo charger intake side when the throttle body closes. This excess air is what a DV or BOV is designed to vent but when there's too much, it can't vent it all and it goes back through the intake side of the turbo in the opposite direction that the turbo is spinning and fighting the air it's trying to suck in (leading to that stutututu sound). This is fine off throttle, because the turbo isn't being driven by exhaust gas so when air goes the other way, it's neutral pressure. But if you're on throttle and you hear flutter from the turbo, that's a great indicator that something's wrong and you're gonna have a bad time (excess wear on turbo and early turbo death/grenaded turbocharger). This is because on throttle, the exhaust side of the turbo is driving the turbo to spool. If there's flutter because it's taking in air but too much for the system, you now have intake air running the wrong direction fighting the compressor side of the turbo. This puts enormous strain on the impeller shaft in the turbo (air is essentially pushing against the compressor side in the opposite direction that the exhaust side is trying to drive it). Low RPM situations are actually high boost scenarios (dyno charts show that these cars and most turbo cars make peak torque down low) so on throttle flutter, even at low RPM, is dangerous.
    Again though, this is ONLY if the flutter is coming from the turbo. If the flutter is coming from the BOV on throttle, that's fine, but it also means the BOV is either struggling to vent/defective or the car is tuned and likely is asking for more boost than the car can use at that RPM and venting the excess.
    So yeah, sorry about the long post, but I spent a good long time getting my Mk7s tune the way I wanted it so that it didn't flutter (turbo or BOV/DV) at any RPM because flutter from the BOV is just wasted boost and excess wear on the BOV (it's actuating on/off over and over in these circumstances and leads to increased wear). Finding the balance is best for the car and it usually means a lower boost pressure for the given RPM so you can keep the BOV closed and maintain peak pressure which actually will increase response and power. I may be overthinking the wear aspect a bit, but I've got almost 100k miles on my Mk7 GTI tuned for half that time and have yet to have a single part on the car actually fail, so I'm just trying to be proactive.

    • @LucasHuang
      @LucasHuang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      nah this is great, i love it. I love that it's coming from someone who actually has knowledge about this to explain it step by step. It's way better than just hearing it from people because they heard it from their guy who then heard it from their person and so on.
      But yes, the flutter is only happening when off throttle and not even lifting off after heavy throttle. just normal city driving will flutter when letting off sometimes, not all the time tho

    • @Krauser1226
      @Krauser1226 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LucasHuang thanks man! But yeah that's fine then. Off throttle it doesn't matter whether it's the turbo or the BOV because the turbo isn't in a position off throttle where it's trying to spin in opposite directions. Mine actually does turbo flutter off throttle occasionally too at certain RPMs (usually lower RPM moderate third gear pulls where I let off around 3-4K RPM) and not hard pulls either. I think that's just where there's high load scenarios and likely situations where the ECU isn't asking for as much DV/BOV intervention as is probably needed on said tune. Not a problem though, I dig that sound every once and a while and I've got a 15 model year car where the turbos were a crapshoot but if mine hasn't exploded yet with 100k miles and tuned, I'll probably be fine. Good stuff btw man I always enjoy seeing a new video pop up from you in my feed. Keep it up!

      Hey, you seem like a very smart person. Lol. Do you know why the 7 speed dsg do not have a dsg fart like in the 6 speed dsg. Just wondering. Lol thanks.

    • @Krauser1226
      @Krauser1226 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@reeseth2176 I believe it's just a tuning thing in the ECU. Mines a 6 speed DSG and it farts all the time. We have a Mk7 GLI in the family too and it's got the 7 speed DSG and doesn't fart at all. Its the same drivetrain other than the DSG and I know that same DSG design farts on the Mk7 Rs so I'm pretty sure it's a difference in ECU tuning for emissions. I've not personally driven a 7 speed DSG other than the one in the Mk7 GLI though so I can't really compare. Do the Mk7.5 GTIs not fart on shifts? I was under the impression they did and that only the new GLI didn't fart.

      @@Krauser1226 yup I have a stage 2 mk 7.5 GTI with the 7 speed and there is no DSG fart on shifts; only on wheelspin it makes some fart noise. I guess it’s an ecu thing lol. Thanks !

    I'm considering one of these for my 8J TT RS. I was looking at the GFB VTA+ one initially and stumbled across this. I know you're a DSG, so between shifts it doesn't change much, but have you noticed a difference in throttle response when in one specific gear and doing something like on-off-on throttle? Any better, worse, or same?
