Al's German in this sketch is fairly good. Here in England most of us can't actively speak it this well, but many would understand enough to pick up the gist of what he was saying, particularly as some of it was about then-recent sporting events, or English football songs translated into German.

The last German part is a reference to the film 'Downfall', about the last days in the Führerbunker during the Battle of Berlin. He shouts "Wo ist Steiner? Wo ist Steiner?" Steiner was an SS commander who disobeyed orders to mount an attack, as it would have basically been a suicide mission. When Hitler heard of this, he had a complete meltdown, and later shot himself after realising defeat was inevitable

BTW not sure if others have said, but if you look up on here Time Gentlemen, Please you will see that the "it's been a year!" and "the point is this, the point is this" are in fact part of the character he has played for decades and not him repeating himself during standup. I know you know he's in character, but I thought the repeating "the point is this" was his own way to get back on track, but it's all part of the very long-running act! He's funny as hell in a pretty clever way lol. UK got a boat load of cool comedians that i never heard of until i moved here. The stand up comedy scene is wild and has been for a while. I moved here in 06. That dubbed film thing he was doing i used to do at school as a kid lol...... he just brought back some silly memories haha. All the martial arts movies back then from other countries were dubbed.... badly. So yeah, that's what it was like back then my young friends lol.

Another super smart comic that you really need to check out is Dara O'Briain. His degree is from Trinity College Dublin where he graduated with Honours in Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. Here in 'Old Blighty' he's best known as the host of 'Mock The Week' but have a gander at his stand up shows. Like Al Murray he really knows how to play the audience and the way he memorises the names and the occupations of that audience is damned impressive. If you can try his show at The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. He was brilliant. Give it a go!

It was to discuss his new book about the failed British attempt to take the bridge at Arnhem in the second world war. He is a very good historian and is currently also doing You Tube videos on Walking the Ground in Normandy, covering the DDay invasion and beyond by actually visiting the various beaches and places where action toook place.

His first time I think he was on the TV was doing sounds/impressions of firearms on a TV programme, or he was on a programme that was a kinda pictionary type of game show that was shown late night if I remember correctly. Drawing something on paper and other teammates had to guess what it meant, common phrases and such. I think you can find both on here, I kinda remember someone reacting to them awhile back. Both aired originally in the 90s from my recollection.

There was a film made called The Dam Busters based on a World War 2 raid on the Rhur Valley by the Royal Airforce in Wold War 2. The bouncing bomb was designed by scientist and engineer Barnes Wallace. Dropped from a height of 60 feet6 on a reservoir it bounced on the surface till it reached the dam wall then it sank and exploded against the dam wall eventually breaching the wall and flooding the valley wiping out industrial factories making weapons for the German War effort. 3 Dan's were attacked 2 destroyed. The raids were led by Wing Commander Guy Gibson. He had a black labrador called Ni@@er. A word not so racially inflammatory in the 1940's as it is now! When he returned from. the. mission he was informed that his dog had been killed by a car outside the main gate of the airbase.

Wait.. You guys don't speak German ??? We are all taught basic German and French at 11 years old over here.. It's compulsory in High school. Till we're 14 and have to choose our final exam subjects. French, German and/or now Spanish. You don't have to choose a language as a final subject. But at least you've been taught the basics.

Some things he does are hilarious but on one show he started mocking the Bible so I quickly switched him off. God is not one to be mocked. So beware that that's his real agenda. I suppose with Germany it can at least be about a shared obsession. My other half is German with Dutch origins, speaks German, Dutch, English, Russian and some French ('some' surprised me) and knows more about what's happening in English football than I do.
Can I make suggestion that you watch an Irish comedian, Dave Allen. His comedy is so funny. You must remember he came from a .rather strict era of Roman Catholicism in Eire (Southern Ireland). He once received death threats from some members of the IRA because of his irreverent humour. 4:20

Wait.. You guys don't speak German ??? We are all taught basic German and French at 11 years old over here.. It's compulsory in High school. Till we're 14 and have to choose our final exam subjects. French, German and/or now Spanish. You don't have to choose a language as a final subject. But at least you've been taught the basics.
Al Murray is playing the part of a self opinionated British Pub Landlord. But in reality, he's very well educated, and what we'd call Posh. Some things he does are hilarious but on one show he started mocking the Bible so I quickly switched him off. God is not one to be mocked. So beware that that's his real agenda. It's the same thing with Ricky Gervais. Both are using a body of comedy work, so they can eventually peddle Atheism.
Everything is open to be mocked. That's what comedy is. There is no agenda, and you've done the right thing, if you don't like it, turn it off!
