  • There are many hoaxes and myths about the agriculture of Almeria (Spain), increased by the reportages that try to discredit the greenhouses.
Artificial vegetables, massive farms run by big landowners, fruits with high levels of pesticides, exploitation of foreign workers... These are some of the widespread myths about the sea of plastics that this documentary seeks to debunk, showing what is never valued about this type of agriculture.

A one-sided presentation about the rosy side of massive greenhouse agricultural operations. But workers are threatened if they complain about abuse. The rivers are choking on plastic coverings from the greenhouses. Many of these workers go home to makeshift housing without running water. A measured approach would allow union representatives and environmental groups to present their side. Given the massive overall size of the growing operation, cooperative steps by the growers could address the pollution and employee abuse effectively. But that would cost too many pethetas for the likes of the captains of industry.

The captains of industry are small farmers, you sound like a typical union hack, just complaining because you are not ripping off the workers and employees.

it's a desert. what rivers are you talking about? I've been there. a lot. it's a very popular tourist area after all and it's beautiful if you like arid. the co-ops are tightly controlled and monitored too. it was worse 20 years ago for sure. but times change

@@peanuthamper In that part of the world there are dry riverbeds which are subject to flooding at certain times of the year. These natural flood channels are what I’m referring to. If a riverbed is not a river if it’s ever dry, then I stand corrected. And I will leave it to you to explain to the French that the Loire is not a river, since it ran dry in 2022, I believe.

@@cmleoj the loire is not a rambla or an arroyo. it normally has water; I've been there too by the way. the ramblas are not clogged with plastic because they rarely carry ANY water. I know because I travel them often. you have never been there obviously

@@peanuthamper Dude, you don’t have to point out that you’ve been there in every freaking comment you make. Although I’m sure the mention of that stunning fact must make the panties fly in some quarters…
By the way, I’ve never been to the moon but I do know something about it. Proximity is not always a proxy for knowledge.
Lastly (I know, you’ve been there… 🤦), if you would take a moment to Google “almeria plastic pollution”, you’ll find all the evidence you might need to understand where I’m coming from.

When you state something like "there is some abuse in Almeria, but there is also abuse in other places". This is a logical fallacy and trivialises crime.

Nuestros productos son lo mas sanos que te puedes encontrar en supermercados y grandes cadenas no como lo que traen de turkia y marruecos con niveles altos de pesticidas

Well done, thank you! I am only now learning about this extraordinary place. I know unethical practices are always possible, but I hope everything is as nice as this video makes out.

This is an independent documentary. Nobody paid me for it. If you wanna check if it's true by your own, come to Almeria :)

@@dontlaughtoomuch11 Which company? I am not talking about a company but about a whole sector. If you didn't understand it, I recommend you to watch it again. In the video there are small farmers, a cooperative (whose members are farmers) and salaried greenhouse workers. These workers should currently be paid a minimum of 56€ per day (if I am not mistaken, this is the legal minimum wage. It was around 35-40€ in the moment I recorded). As I explain in the video, there are controls at the field level to ensure workers' rights. The people I interviewed (as well as most of the people I know) comply with these rules and hiring laws. However, there are always people who do not comply with the laws and abuse workers (I do know some of them as well). But this does not only happen in agriculture and it does not only happen in Spain.
