I remember dropping the needle on this album back in the day. High School in the “Dazed and Confused (film)” era had pluses and minuses. Really set you up for life. lol. But what a sound. Every bit as haunting today. Great song.
Pedal steel freed him up to take a new emotional approach. The lightness of the pedal steel and his reworked vocal is dramatically contrasted with the power of the Les Paul. Whole different vibe from the original arrangement which was warm and engrossing. Here, a more edgy and reflective take. Love both.

Yup, dIRE sTRAITS and now Mark solo is best live, by far ! he improvises the most wonderful licks, nothing like on the albums....except Alchemy of course.
Totally true!! His improv is evidence of his true Maestro nod!! Tone!!!!!??? Many can shred and scream and burn up the fretboard, but not many can match MK's tone!! Beautiful!! I like the up tempo of this version too. Ever notice how many times he may change rhythms? He seems to really like the Calypso, Reggae , Latin rhythms.
