    I remember having a large proportion of women squad members, a passing group of soldiers commented on the amount of free women. They sent a squad to investigate the claims of a group of man-less women, I sent out one of the few guys I had with a bible to talk to them.
    Long story short, I convinced them they were all his harem, they went "Nice but that seems like a lot of work" and left.
    If you got the right tools and people a lot of holy nation incidents can be avoided in their territory.

    It's worthwhile to note that the Holy Nation's laws no longer apply to you if you officially ally with them. You can have all of the skeletons and prosthetics that you want, and they won't care. I used this little fact to do a reformation playthrough, and it was pretty fun.

    • @7Seven-Four4

      @@corinthiansdaniels3728 Yep. It's just part of how the faction relations work. In addition to the commonly known things like faction patrols sometimes tagging along like hired mercenaries, and being absolved of bag checks and taxation, an alliance basically gives you diplomatic immunity to their cultural laws. Most people never discover this because they follow the anti-Holy Nation meme and never ally them, while United Cities or Shek Kingdom don't have such stringent cultural hangups an alliance would negate.

      the only remaining issue is, parties with skeletons or "skeletons"(limbs) cannot talk to HN merchants. But there is a really simple solution: have Greenland or scorchlanders carry those people. You can also take off the limb too. this also let's you move thru territory before alliance

  • @PF2015
    @PF2015 ปีที่แล้ว +106

    Before you ally with the HN you can either unbolt limbs or have pure bodied squad members carry them and any skeletons. A green/scorch carrying a skeleton can engage in commerce or collect bounties, it's quite fun.
    Prayer day is even easier, just have a lone scorch/green do the thing at the gate.
    After you ally the HN doesnt care if you have skeletons or people with Limbs, but you need to carry those people to engage in commerce or dialogue.

    Okran's Pride becoming Utopia after dismantling the Holy Nation is... Questionable. Sure there's no prayer day, but Kral's Chosen patrol start spawning. Fogmen Deathyards also start spawning. I'd say having bloodthirsty neighbors is not the definition of a Utopia.

    • @danello9091
      @danello9091 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      I think it CAN be an Utopia tho, that'd be the most accurate way to say it, because now the player faction can actively take a stance against these things, the fogmen, cannibals and Kral's chosen all to be pushed back by your very own forces, until they are no more.

      Krals chosen isn't that nasty if you have an established base with harpoons and a couple strong melee troops, I'm sure ranged troops do just as well. Keep in mind Hundred guardian (80+ combat stats) patrols spawn after you take out the major leaders of the holy nation and they'll bodyguard you or your outpost for free. Fogmen are scary but as an actual threat any established force that can take out the holy nation could theoretically drive back the Fogmen to the fog islands. After you take out New Kralia there are no major threats that you don't bring upon yourself, and you get backup from the Hundred Guardians if you do that

      Not really. Holy Nation is really too peaceful with a couple of silly and useless starving bandits and Holy Nation outlaws. If you want combat experience, go to Fog Islands. You can fight the fogmen everyday just by mining iron very close to the gate of Mongrel. In case you are outnumbered, you always get help from the guards. I recruited three guys in Blister Hill. They farm iron outside the gate there. A week in and they never encountered even a single bandit or wild animal. LOL

    The game really sets home a point about much the world can get fucked up by people who think they're doing something "morally right" and that's probably what makes it so great. There really is nothing so good or bad in the game. Just you and doing what you can to survive.

  • @Postdotfuzz

    I tried to settle Okran's Pride once. It was a freedom-seekers start, all humans. I put down a farm plot and groups of raptors and bandits showed up simultaneously and knocked out all my characters. Then prayer day showed up just as one of the women woke up, and therefore they accused me of letting women run wild or something and being heretics. We were suddenly hostile to the Holy Nation. A few in game hours later, an army showed up, beat our asses, and hauled us all off to rebirth. The moral of the story is: their particular brand of zealous bigotry can get you even if you're doing everything right, especially if you're struggling.

    Not played Kenshi in a long time and should really get back into it, but something I would do alot is set up 'colonies' in Holy Nation territory while the main area I setup is outside of it. With how difficult it can be to get humans good at doing things, fighting, etc its also practically the best place to train up all the new human recruits which fits perfectly with any large manpower needs of colonization efforts. Most of the money I would make would come from often either robbing or trading in Holy Nation towns also which gives something to do for hauling and stealth training humans as well. Eventually I end up often deciding to fuck with the Holy Nation down the road, and all the colonial investment I made in there territory often leaves me in a good position to setup a fortress style settlement to begin operating out of as well. For all intents and purposes I become a Symbiote of the Holy Nation helping them grow just as they help me grow but eventually turn Parasitic doing more to harm then help before going fully against them.

    One thing to consider is the housing, you can always buy homes in the cities pre-settlement which can help get a feel for the area. However, some cities suck for housing availability.
    Stack for example used to be pretty good with housing and its location was great for dust bandit farming, plenty of shops and electricity for crafting/selling.
    Downside was the update that added some new shop types took up the larger house types there. Bad teeth instead would be a decent choice.

      stack has some good copper mines around it usually though which can make a pretty penny if you just mine for awhile, theirs also one typically inside the walls itself, but its a bit buggy on auto mining it so you might have to do it manually with taking out copper ore. Other than annoying bonedogs(occasionally) even the mines outside are safe.

    I setup a skeleton and hiver city on the other side of a mountain from a large settlement in the holy nation. The tops of two large mountains that were flat on top became my city. I had a nice north and south chokepoint, built a home defense force and an excursion force, and my workforce was almost entirely hivers (and a few random humans) that basically just farmed and mined all day and did little else. Love that entire area of the map for building (even up in the mountains) because you get a lot of mid-level fights that can be beaten but still provide a challenge (even later on, if you get caught with your pants down).

    Rebirth Slave is a great start, as your character can’t die (usually) and can’t starve, or if you start as a normal citizen I recommend outside one of the holy farms in between Stack, Blister Hill and Bad Teeth, having a 3x3 1kg book in your inventory is a small price to pay to bathe under Okran’s bountiful sunlight. You can even keep Beep as a pet if you like, he’s basically a dog. Take him along as you purge the Hive filth from the West and South East.

    Had a great base at the entrance to Wend. While technically no longer part of Okran's Pride, it has 100% green soil, max water, 100% stone and 100% iron deposits.
    Good for defense too, since you can force enemies to swim across the river by walling off the land path. Also, the HN squads usually don't really go that far north, for the longest time I kept up good relations with HN simply by keeping my skeleton workers on iron and stone duty in the northern part of the camp, they never got spotted.
    The only downsides are the lack of copper and limited building space; I would have probably struggled a lot if not for the Slopeless mod.

Okrna's Pride seems like a fitting place for maximum insult, but man the lack of good copper and iron deposits are a huge pain. First tried setting up first on the slope between the most southern Holy Farm, on the border between Okran's Pride and Gulf just to try to get both arid and green fertilities (and the ore qualities of the Gulf), but the damn game refused to acknowledge it as a singular settlement (probably made it too big) and only allowed my high altitude wind farms to supply power to that regional half of it. Going to try my luck further north, see if I can set up a location where I can take potshots at passing holy nation patrols from my towers as well.

Have to be opportunistic at times but, just run for the gates, loot bonedogas, Bandit, river raptors or what ever they leave behined. Even if you are a lone woman, you are mostly save, but you will have trubble in time becaus they are out to get you after all just stay away from contact, if you dont hastle the guards or peasents you will be fine, the guards even let you stand before the gates und warn you before attacking, just dont entee und dont initiate conversations. I love Basebuilding and usualy i have it as a staging grund and retreat bevor i settle at my mainblocation. You have free food, free bodyguards, meat, leather, cottiom, iron, copper, just screaming lunatica at your Door from time to time, like everywhere but at least they dont eat you usualy, they just want to talk about fanfiction stuff.

I was chilling in a HN city added by a mod and there was just a hiver exile vibing in the bar (added from I think it's called more drifters). Another hiver from the downtrodden hivers, which are a roaming homeless bandit faction from more drifters, was crawling around just outside of town. Had an economy leg as well. Figured he'd be an easy mark to beat up and loot given he's a bandit with a robot limb and I've definitely seen them fight paladin's before. Minute I swing at the guy, the nearby paladin's swarm me. Was trying for a devoted male greenlander okranite because I've never done it before, but that shit killed the run for me 🤣

    And when allied to them, you can have all the tech, prosthetics, bugman, robots ans shek your heart desires. And maybe, for roleplaying, you can start to show them that there are good hivers, robots etc etc.
    A really god spot is near Badteeth, directly on the border to Skinners Roam. You have access to the fertility of Okran`s Pride (besides rice and cactus you can grow all the crops you want with 100% fertility and 160% of water) and on the other side the arid fertility of Skinners Roam to grow cactus AND most of the time 100% wind to run your generators. And to top all of this, there is a 100% ironspot, and a 85% copper spot. You got everything you need at one spot (you can grow rice in hydropnics when you got them. I grow all my crops in hydroponics.. besides of cactus obviously) And you are near a city to trade.
    Some might say: Yeah, but you can´t build so near to a city... actually you can. Just begin with any house you like, and place it as near as you can to Badteeth. Press the Okay-Button. Then go back in the building-menu. Now you can build into the area that was blue before (forbidden to build).
    My actual base is east of Badteeth. When you leave Badteeth through the northern gate, head right through a canyon, and you will see a big rock. That`s the spot. And to make it even more "profitable", you got those sweet hungry bandits roaming around, which are perfect for toughnesstraining. Done right, you get 90 or even 100 toughness in minutes. Okran´s Pride looks nicer, with all that juicy green gras, the palms and all, but that spot provides everything you wish for.
    Oh, and if you like to get a more "advanced" training, beakthings are not far away in Shem.
    One thing to mention: I did not see hungry bandits for a long time now. I don´t know, if it has something to do with my base, but they seem no longer to spawn. That`s a pity for toughness-training.. but Dustbandit-camps keep spawning, so toughness-training i still a thing, just takes a few minutes more. I hope that the "hunrys" start spawning again some time.

      I actually quite like the idea of a HN reform playthough. Maybe you could use mods to start in their territory with some basic supplies and gear, as if you're one of them, and kinda work your way up. Unfortunately can't do it with my current party, at least not easily, because I already have two shek in my party and one's a woman. Also plan on picking up Sadneil and a few other skeletons for the DOMO ARIGATO MISUTA ROBOTO value, already had him but the damn game crashed before I thought to save.

    Big cutie mouse. Definitely bookmarked this video, well before I started working through the other territory videos. I've been working...though at the moment it's really just a "feel things out" playthrough...off of a "The Slaves" start? So starting from Rebirth has kept my focus on a settlement location to the West side of the map. I'd had a vague idea that using Rebirth as a Toughness, Stealth and Lockpicking resource could be a cool...lore friendly sort of way to train up a bit? So I could have a good portion of my characters on the "outside", and rotate people through Rebirth as slaves for training? Once the people that're slaves get to a good level, they simply escape and lay low inside my settlement...and I rotate a new batch of people in? As someone that doesn't have really...any actual time spent engaging with the factions though, I'm not sure if that's something that'd be a good idea...or if the Holy Nation would catch on and raid my settlement constantly.

    10:30 I'm surprised you didn't cover the spot further south in the gulf, between the T-split road northeast of stack and the cliffs/slopes of okran's pride.
    You got good stone, iron and copper, decent fertility, right next to a road, right next to stack (wether it's HN or shek) and even more deadcenter of the map than fog islands or any of the suggested locations on the screenshot, plus it's flat (besides the copper deposit).
    You'll be raided by Holy Nation (or prayer day if friendly) (or shek if you made them your enemy after granting them stack), cannibals from Dreg, Black dragon ninjas and harassed by dog spawns, combined with the spot I'd say it's good spot for people who want a spot in the middle of the map, not too hard, but also not too easy.

    Holy Nation is by far my favorite faction so thank you for the guide!
    I don't get it why people claim the HN as THE evil faction on Kenshi, In a sick distorted way the HN is the faction that cares most about preserving mankind.
    The United Cities accept all species because it's profitable for them, more servants for the nobles and more slaves for trading. Shek are conquerors by nature, waging war everywhere and treating everyone else with disdain. Skeletons, Tin Fist? Well they carry something on their shoulders and Tech-Hunters and Bounty hunters only care about themselves, like every other minor faction.
    So who is good in this damned moon?

      It's the sheer degree of intolerance, really, which is very easy to brush up against when you play the game. Almost all factions suck in some way but the HN is by far the least flexible one when it comes to the material reality of the setting. Play a woman? Expect to be annoyed constantly by zealots telling you your very existence is sinful. Play a Shek? Killed on sight. Play a Hiver? Killed on sight. Greenlander male but lost an arm and had to get a prosthetic? Killed on sight again. Have any of them in the party? Tread real damn carefully, preferably picking all of them up manually with your male greenlanders just to pretend they're slaves. Also, better have that holy book on you at all times. Meanwhile, the Holy Nation is just as keen as the UC to employ slavery as a labour force and outlaw effectively everything in terms of useful knowledge - you'll get in trouble for posessing anything from ancient science books, to AI cores, to just straight up books on evolution - and they crack down hard on drugs like hashish. They do all this while ceaselessly pontificating about how great, holy and justified the are while, owing to their central position on the map, being something players almost invariably have to come into contact with at some juncture. If you chill around or fight on their side as a greenlander male then I'm sure they're tolerable, but if you try to do literally anything else in the game it quickly becomes apparent that their little theocratic dictatorship is a cancerous tumor that needs excising.

    • @wonderwiseS2
      @wonderwiseS2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Asrahn Fair point of view i agree with some of your takes.
      I think we need to consider a few things about the Holy Nation before hammering judgement on 'em.
      Holy Nation started as a cult in the Second Empire, when children were locked in cages, families were starving to death, people were used for experiments like lab rats and so on...
      Fear of other species/robots is justified, it's self-preservation.
      Sadly, from that same fear grew hatred.
      I don't judge them for being xenophobic even tho it's wrong, kenshi is a TOUGH place man.
      What i never understood was the misogyny, for me, it was added just to make people really dislike the HN. Why add women as "Narko children" when they suffered along side men in the Second Empire. Doesn't make sense.
      Another thing i see in the HN since i'm allied with them is that people live normal lives if you check farmers and their wives and most citizens they are just people. The issue is the fanatics ruling them. All the evil stories and punishments i believe them to be just propaganda to scare and control the population or else we would see women crucified on the streets and public executions of sorts for sinners.

    • @Asrahn
      @Asrahn ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@wonderwiseS2 I get where you're coming from, and I'm not saying that their condition isn't understandable given their historical and material reality, but rather that what they have become, and are during the time the game is set, is more often than not anathema to players, their values and their interests. The core principle of theocracies and similar social formations is that of "justifiable hierarchies", and the HN has that in spades, where the heart of their religion is centered around a "good" versus "evil" where the good, the light and order is symbolised by a man and the evil, the dark and chaos is symbolised by a woman, which serves the purpose of structuring society according to patriarchal family units where the woman is subservient the man. Making women lesser than, in accordance to unchangeable scripture, serves the purpose of giving those at the top of it all rather stringent population control and heavily inhibits the full half of their citizens' ability to potentially threaten the top-down religious order of their nation - after all, tell a man that he is better than someone else, whether it is a woman or a hiver, and he will be too busy enforcing that order (in order for his social status to not diminish) to question his own place in the hierarchy, and the priesthood can continue on as always. Divide and conquer is a trick as old as civilization.

    Holy nation is usually my favorite to play as, though Shek are a close second, which they tend to fight the Holy Nation.
