The kwa is the inguinal crease, the hip articulation? It was my understanding that the "gua" in bagua (pakua) refers to the chapters of the I-ching which are used to name the 64 linear forms of Gao I-shung bagua as well as the hip articulation fold
The neck hold is a classic irish collar tie which is a very common maneuver in modern freestyle and folkstyle wrestling and of course was used by the old catch wrestlers like Frank gotch but appears in sculptures from ancient egypt depicting all kinds of wrestling maneuvers and holds ( I doubt they called it an irish collar tie lol)
If you're doing that against a competent wrestler what prevents him from hitting you with a high crotch or a double leg as soon as you pull them down to your hips?
A belated Happy Birthday Sifu Mizner. I first learned of you from other videos via "themartialman." I have also seen a few of your Q&A videos. Undoubtedly, you have provided a wealth of very good information. I have one question however I would like to ask (if I may,) as I have not seen it presented to you thus far. With regard to the Internal Arts, how would Tai Chi differ from Baguazhan or Xinyi Quan? Not in terms of physical movement per say but rather, what elements of development would/could be cultivated that would result in the same as Tai Chi, what would differ?
Same principles apply to bagua and hsing-i. But like mizner, few reach the pinnacle. And since there are many more forms in the fists, the animals, circling, etc, BG and HI take longer. Imho.
you can go a long way just practicing the jiben gong, song gong and form, and solo practicing the movements from push hands sets. But finding someone who trains the same program who you can test yourself against from time to time and practice push hands sets will be more helpful. Going to workshops with HME also helps a lot since they are good at correcting the usual errors one has there.
Hi Sifu Adam, wow, happy birth bro! I am so happy you shared this! I saw a video of GM Huang doing this pattern with a girl in a video some time ago. I was very fascinated, because in SIng Ong Tai Chi, we have a particular emphasis on the head and neck, in particular the head and neck exercises, which are part of the 6 relaxing exercises or "Song Jin Huo Gu", which where past on to Master Sing Ong Yek by GM Huang. I think you guys just do the "Song Shen Wu Fa" right? Or do you practice the head and neck as well? I often feel like there's something I'm not being told about the relationship between your school and Sing Ong Tai Chi, maybe some kind or disagreements on some particular issue?? Or maybe it's just me and everything's fine. Either way, one thing is clear, both Sing Ong and your school have excellent Tai Chi. I currently live in Jiangsu Province, China, so haven't been able to train with the instructors from Sing Ong Tai Chi back in New Zealand for a year now. I Just do as much Song Gong and forms practice as I can at home. I really want to get back to training with a good school soon. Hopefully I can come and train there in Thai Land, when I get a break I'd definitely come. I must apologize, I mentioned you in a video I made on my Channel regarding "Are internal Martial Arts really on the same level as MMA?" . I spoke about you the same way I'd like to be spoken about my self, so hopefully you don't mind. The video was purely for educational purposes and to refine my own understanding of Neijiaquan or internal martial arts
Unfortunately Mater Yek is a little more old school and doesn't like to up-load stuff to youtube. I guess he's a good example of the old school Masters. The fact is, there's many exceptionally skilled Masters you've never heard of and may never hear of, becase of that. Sing Ong Tai Chi is excellent in that is pays particular attention to the head and kneck
Thanks for sharing! Have an awesome day!
What an amazingly useful drill! I've never seen this drill in any TJQ methods. Thank you for sharing.
Really nicely explained
Happy Birthday and best wishes for your good health, as well as for a long, prosperous life!
Love the classic look of the building.

Kuà (hip): 胯
Guà (as in bāguà): 卦
Different words, different pronunciation, completely unrelated as far as I know.
Appreciate Well Presented Understandable Thank You

This is fascinating, great to see such a unique application that is so practical and based on principle
What about the possibility of knees to the face when circling out?
this is just a drill for training a body method. it would be adjusted for application.

HI, do you have any link to thoses head and neck exercices from Master Sing Ong Yek ? First time I heard about such exercices inside GM Huang style.
