    I am Brazilian and I can tell you its really hard to avoid talking like that. Its a natural thing to us, so much that we don’t even notice we are doing it.

  • @renatinha80
    @renatinha80 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm a Brazilian and I must warn you that not all Brazilians speak like that. Especially not all the time. That's related not only to accent and intonation but mostly to register and style. The same person might sound like that in some situations, among some people and not sound like that in other situations. For example: when trying to be friendly or flirty, people tend to use that kind of intonation. However, a business executive in a presentation most certainly will not.

    English sounds "singed" for us brazilians. It's just that no one knows where to put the natural intonation in foreign languages.

    This way of speaking is very common in São Paulo and the south of Brazil. I'm not from SP and here where I live we don't make words longer as you explained, we make them shorter instead.

    "Dagny, Don't you know it's rude to sing when the other people are talking?" - My Eldest Brother 2017
    Would anyone dare to sing next to the person talking on the phone?, No!, because the person on the phone needs to talk and requires no one else making noise around him/her.

    Dear Andrew, while it is true that English is not as melodious as Portuguese, it is important to remember that maintaining our Brazilian identity is essential. We do not need to lose our accents, only to be understood. And just as we make an effort to understand your mispronunciations of "pau de quedjo", 'Sau Paulo' and 'Rio dJaneiro', you could also make an effort to understand our attempts at speaking your language

    Não brasileiros, vocês não precisam parar de "cantar" quando falam, é a NOSSA identidade cultural, NOSSO povo, NOSSO sotaque, e acredito que vídeos como esses so servem para mostrar como os estrangeiros são mesquinhos e acham que sotaque é um ERRO. Erro são essas pessoas falarem assim de nosso lindo sotaque.

  • @merciatonete

    Funny video! I know this accent is because of our language but something that I also noticed as a brazilian is that we learn english with tv shows. Watch friends for example and see how they talk, the intonation of the words and expressions. Maybe is on purpose but because of that when I speak english, for my ears it sounds close to american accent. If I try to speak without this "singing" accent feels like I'm trying to speak with a very bad british accent. It doesn't sound natural... Sorry for any english mistake and I'm not sure if that make sense for you anyway...

  • @vanHoey

    I’ve noticed that too. For me as a native German speaker this is particularly obvious. I’m struggling with the vowels: Maanaaaus, Riiio, Saaao Paaulo, Fooz Iguacuuuu.
