i find #2 absolutely captivating because it's like... a very ugly state of soul made into beautiful music. It's sadness, but not of a melancholic 'bittersweet' kind - instead a very numb, grumpy, tired kind of sorrow, like when you're feeling so low that you're, well, no longer feeling anything. A moment of completely giving up, lacking faith in anything. Yet, this composer found a way to describe such mood in a beautiful and dignifying way thru music, It's mesmerizing.
Honestly, I have no idea why Zhukov is not so famous as, I think, he should be. His Scriabin is the best. I myself play whole Scriabin, have listened to many performances ( obviously to all "famous" pianists ) and I tell you that guy Zhukov is amazing.
Zhukov rules. He doesn't only play Scriabin. On TH-cam, there is a recording of him playing Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin. Most impressive version of the toccata I have heard.
Goosebumps from prel #1, its rubato feels like being 'drunk' but probably happy :D Totally love emotional world of #2, so beautiful that it hurts #3 and #4 are great too
Many dismiss scriabin as "a tonal" but he never lost his romanticism or the genius he showed in his earlier compositional period. A truly unique person and an extremely talented composer.
Zhukov's performances are exceptional. This performance of Fragilite is "hands down" the best I've heard.
Magic. Fascinating. What a Wonderful pianist. It's sad that he was not well known.
