You can do it. Just don't be in a really big hurry to see the finished product. Thats my problem. Got to take time to plan and do the decorations on it.
@@jarodhall1910 Leave it all blank. Its functional and pretty nice looking with no carving or stamping also. Watch videos about doing stamping and carving. Its not as easy as it looks unless you're an expert. A novince may take up to 3 or 4 hours just to do the stamping straight, also do not expect perfection. You or anybody else will never achieve perfection. Practice on some scrap leather with your stamps. There are some stamps that are harder to use than others. Use the easy ones or no stamps at all. But do watch some videos on casing leather and stamping. Its an aquired skill that is only gained with practice and dilligence to do everything accurately. Leather work is very hard work at first, then it becomes pretty easy as you gain experience. I'm not talking about large projects. Those are pretty tough all the time. Sharpen even new razors with a diamond stone if you have one avaliable. Harbor Freight sells stones at a very reasonable price. Sharpen even the brand new blades. I sharpen them anyway. Don't expect leatherwork to be easy, focus on the finished product. You may have a difficult time for 7 or 8 hours and if you maintain your leather project it will last all your life. It may not look as pretty as it was when it was new but it will probably remain functuonal for a very long time.
Nice! I did a black one with a Buck 119 and it covered all the shiny spots on the handle and the halfguard. Its two pieces. Made a matching sheath for it also. Its all removable and can be put on again. Now its ready to ride at my side while deer hunting with no shine what-so-ever. Darn black bears are sneaky where I used to hunt. They'll be 2 steps behind you and most of the time people dont notice. Mine wasn't anywhere near as nice looking as yours though. Great work and technique, planning and everything. As usual sir. Thank you for a very enjoyable video!
Is there any time when you choose to deglaze your vegtan before any other steps and under what circumstances? Always a pleasure to see your work, thank you.
Thanks for watching! I didn't really need to soap up for this piece. I typically only case with glycerin saddle soap when I'm doing a lot of tooling. The soap helps lubricate the leather fibers. Makes it more pliable. This in turn helps a swivel knife glide through it better and for stamps to make better impressions.
Yep your vary talented and it's nice to have a lot of good tools to work with. You could cold blue that one I did it to my Cold steel survivalist and it looks good. I'm not to far away from you off RT 20. Nice work I wish you well.
Absolutely beautiful work! Thank you for showing the stitching process. Also, what brand of snaps do you use for the sheath's keeper strap around the hilt? I am looking for snaps that are very strong and will stay closed.
👍 отличная работа. Высокое мастерство. Ноооо, возник вопрос. При применении этого ножа, допустим на рыбалке или охоте, мокрым-грязным рукам будет ли удобно работать с такой рукоятью ?
Thanks for watching. Hard to say. I've had similar leather wraps on walking sticks and on my compound bow. It's been oiled and has conditioner applied to keep it from drying out. But it will definitely stain and darken the leather over time, so don't fall in love with the color!
It's called "casing" the leather and it preps it for tooling. Soaking in water softens the leather fibers and makes them more pliable. The saddle soap isn't necessary, but it lubricates the leather fibers and aids in the process.
It’s nice work, but it’s not really a “makeover”. I mean, you stripped the finish and wrapped the handle in a leather sleeve that doesn’t really suit the style of the knife. Maybe if you had just given the knife some new scales made of exotic wood or something with inlays, that would look like something more custom.

Beautiful. That leather burnished beautifully under the pear shader, and I need to get some citrus stripper; I'm tired of peeling my oranges by hand.
lol. Thanks for watching!
Turned out super nice, you have some great leather working tools. I really like the tool box on the table, good 👍 job.

Thanks for the tip!

you can do work like this! i knew nothing 4 years ago and this guy showed me how. he is a great teacher weather he knows it or not.

@@minerblue9641 it is so difficult for em to do the carving and stamping. I just can't get it right at all.

The Buck 119 is a great knife. Have one myself. Thanks for watching!
Awesome job!!!
Thanks!!
THE KNIFE IS ABSOLUTELY INCONVENIENT, IMPRACTICAL, I DON 'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT .
Sounds like this isn't the knife for you then! Fortunately there's no shortage of options out there. A smaller folder perhaps?
A beautiful work off art.

What are you putting on the leather at 2:24 into the video? Curious.
Neatsfoot oil.. I think...
Looks like saddle soap
I honestly didn't look back at the time stamp... you are correct...
Thanks for subscribing! It's glycerin saddle soap.

Excellent work as always. Where did you get your heavy wing dividers at? I need to upgrade my set to something more substantial.
Thanks for subscribing! Yes! Those are C.S. Osbourne 8" wing dividers. I bought that particular set from eBay. But you can get them on Amazon as well.
increíble 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks for watching!
Really good work. I hope you put a clear coat on that metal so it doesn’t rust.
I haven't. I'll give it a coat of oil if I start having issues
yes, this type of steel can rust and that is why there is a coating.
Absolutely beautiful work! Thank you for showing the stitching process. Also, what brand of snaps do you use for the sheath's keeper strap around the hilt? I am looking for snaps that are very strong and will stay closed.
Thanks! I buy my snaps from Tandy Leather.

I love your stitch hole punches.
Where did you get yours & what's the brand?
They're "Wuta" brand from Amazon. $30 for the set of two

What? Leather covered grips for a revolver?
Do you do this for a living? You're work is sick. I'd love to have you do a knife or holster or both for me. So uniquely beautiful.
Thanks! I occasionally sell stuff on Etsy. But haven't had the bandwidth to take on custom projects.
Объясните пожалуйста процесс замачивания водой и седельным мылом, что это дает? И на какое время вы оставляете в пакете ?

Which cold steel knife was that to begin with?
It's their "Dropped Forged Survivalist"
Super 💥💥💥👍👍👍
Thank you 👍
What was wrong with the knife before?
I mention it in the video description. I didn't like the grey color and the handle was just a tad to small for my liking.
Is that saddle soap you use on the leather and then put it in a plastic bag?
Yes. It helps prep the leather for tooling.
Very cool handle mod…but now the whole piece needs some sort of rust protection solution, seeing as it’s 52100 steel.
I put a light coat of oil on it. It's an old-school knife now!
IDOLO !!!
What are you using for a cutting/punching surface?
Thanks for watching! It's just a self-healing mat. I stamp on a granite block.
УХ-ТЫ!!!! Знатная работа!!!

What color is the tiger thread? Natural? Yellow?
"Colonial Tan" It's not quite yellow, not quite brown.
