This was a GREAT video in removing / replacing the lamp!!! I found that the hardest part was removing the screws from the old lamp in the TV. This video gave me some ideas about grabbing the screw and turning it without a screwdriver.....and YES it came out!! I was about to give up and call a repair man until I saw this video. THANK YOU!!!!

replacement worked like a charm thanx to your instructions. pulling the old bulb out took a few seconds and the 2nd plate removed has to be installed to confirm the bulb installation. Plus my mirror had some smudges on it - toasted dust maybe? wiped it off with a tissue.

Thanks for making this video. Just a note for anyone following it -- you do NOT need to remove the back panels. I almost made this mistake, then realized that the diagram in the manual was only referring to the thumbscrew that you can loosen with a penny. Just leave the other 3 screws in the back panel alone and loosen the thumbscrews in both back panels only. The front panel can be removed while the back panels are still securely attached.

Thanks the great demo. 3 years ago I paid a TV repairman $275 for parts and labor. This time we ordered part from Amazon for $25 and did it my self with your video. This would have been impossible with the SONY owners manual (it was terrible).
    Thanks again

Thank you so much! Your video's been saving is 100s of dollars everytime we think we have to buy a new TV. We love our wega that's been passed on to us but it has this lamp burnout issue. Nothing can beat the quality of the good old fashioned TV. The new LED TVs look like enlarged cell phone screens!

This allowed me to save so much by not having to buy a new TV!!!! I was able to replace the bulb ON MY OWN!!!! No service call, and left me pretty proud I could do it. If not for this video, I could not have done this and would have spent a lot of $$. THANK YOU!!!!!!

Thanks for the video, I changed my lamp in less than 15 min. - working great now! The step-by-step instruction made it easy ... like another commenter, I did not have to take off the two back panels, just had to loosen the screws using the penny and the front panel still popped off.

I recommend that everyone try getting your hands on one of these older TVs because they are LCD TVs. Try to avoid the newer LED TVs for as long as you can because the LEDs have many bulbs that can burn out and very hard to replace. This is just one easy change. Nice !

thank you so much for the upload! just adding one note, the plastic cover for your bulb replacement has to go back on before you can turn on your tv. I was stuck testing my bulb for quite a while, you MUST put that cover on to test your bulb. there is a sensor or something that will keep your tv in standby unless you bypass it somehow

Just wanted to share my thanks as well. You probably saved me $150 dollars for a repair man or $1000 for a new tv. I did run into an issue cracking the housing on my new lamp since it wasn't a perfect fit. However, I just pulled the actual lamp out of the new part and put it in the old housing which worked perfectly fine.

Great job on problem solving, however, usually dust on the back panel is the culprit for the bulbs to burn out bcuz there's dust sometimes covering the vents to the fan. Just thought I'd put that on here for people who don't know. It's probably a good idea to clean your fans that cool the bulb.

Mine is still working fine...its been about 2 months. If you ordered on Amazon, you should be able to get lamp replaced for free. Mine has a 5 year warranty. I am sure it is frustrating ... two steps to be careful...Make sure the lamp is tightened in firmly and make sure the outer cover over the lamp is closed securely. Hopefully it was just a fluke and not something more wrong with your tv. Let us know.

If you look on the back of the TV you should find the model number. This will tell you what lamp will work for your Sony.

How are the two plugs on the bottom secured in the tv that plug into the bottom of the lamp? Mine is loose and I always have to take off the back cover, have someone push the lamp in while I hold the plug in place from the back. Thanks

Pat, my lamp is in the front of the tv. The replacement lamp slid in easily and I just made sure the outside screws were secured. Sorry, I'm not sure about the plug being loose.

Hi, thanks for the reply! I paused the video at 8:10 which is where I think you can best see the plug that I am talking about. So right above the lamp in your hand and below the colorful glass piece in the tv (don't know what that's called lol) is a plug with two kind of arched receptors. On each side of the receptors are two silver dots (When I think about it, its most likely a power cable otherwise how would the lamp light up without power). So on my dads tv the plug is hanging down and not just sitting there ready to be plugged into. I am curious as to what is holding it in place. Like I said, when I change the bulb the wire is hanging down and so I have to take off the back cover. When the bulb blows eventually I am going to take a closer look and see why the plug isn't mounted like on yours. I understand it's probably just broken from my dad jamming the last bulb in there but I'll have to take a look next time. Thanks for the upload and the reply!

Not bad, but it looks like you only need to turn the coin screws on the back to release the front panel. Might save some time if you don't do the other three on those panels unless you have some alignment issues.

i have the same sony tv as the video. By replacing the lamp of sony tv. does it take away the blue dots on the screen too?

    • @gailanngross

Hi Alejandro, I did not have blue spots on my screen... my screen was black with no picture just sound. Replacing the lamp gave me the picture back. Sorry, just not sure about the blue spots.
