Surf fishing the Louisiana Coast - Rutherford and Holly Beaches

In this video I went surf fishing at both Rutherford and Holly Beaches on the Louisiana coast. I used frozen cut bait and shrimp for bait. I should have cast netted for fresh mullet in order to better target redfish, but I still enjoyed reeling in the catfish. There will be future surf fishing videos on this channel as it is something I really enjoy doing. I typically surf fish in Florida and Alabama as well.
This video was filmed with my ancient GoPro Hero 3. I have ordered a Hero 7 for future videos.

It's really not. I was targeting redfish but I tend to catch a lot of catfish when bottom fishing. Even though I did not catch anything but catfish, I chose to still post the video. I plan to post future redfish videos from the same location. Thanks for watching.

I always get skunked at Holly Beach, never got anything other then hard heads there! Rutherford is nice for reds and trout, even hooked up to some Gar there and my buddy got a bull shark so beautiful in the surf!

Man I feel the same way. It seems like I see more people catching Reds at Rutherford. I love surf fishing but I seem to catch more cats than anything else wherever I am. I've been told to use bigger pieces of cut mullet so that the catfish can't steal my bait.

What months are best for fishing from the surf at Rutherford? Mainly looking for big redfish , shark , maybe some trout too ?

Some say anytime but I know the fall is when the big redfish move inshore.

You can catch Reddrum at Rutherford year around but prime time is Nov-March. Sharks are more prevalent in the summer months.
