    This was a great idea. Just completed this for a 12x20 enclosed patio (3 seasons room). Went through 2 diamond wheels on a Bosch grinder. I used a $30 Amazon dust collector like in the one scene in the video. If you're going to do this YOU MUST have some type of dust collector. I wouldn't be able to do this without one.

      which bosch grinder did you go for in the end?

    Someone just asked me if I would install outdoor carpet on their porch and stairs leading to the sidewalk. I told them I would do it and noticed the glue as I was walking away, thanks for making this video if all else fails I'm going with the diamond angle grinder

    Thank you, angle is the way to go for my cement step, was killing myself trying to use a paint scraper, and sandpaper. I'll be done in minutes now.....famous last words in DIY. :)

    Thank you for this! I've been fighting with a similar issue in my den. The chemical remover just isn't doing the job.

    I agree this is the only good way to remove carpet glue from concrete. I tried the razor blade scrapper and solvents , but just did not work. It is very dusty , but does work.

    Thank you... I've been fighting with the same problem floor 3 days now. Ive gone thru several 40 grit grinding wheels. Guess I'll buy me that diamond wheel after all.

    Did you cut into the concrete at all with the diamond wheel? Diamond seems like it would? I need to do the same thing at my house - get rug glue off concrete, and am thinking maybe a sander wheel on my angle grinder would be better and less chance of damaging the concrete?

    The adhesive used to hold down my living room carpet pad to concrete was a Neoprene or rubber adhesive. The best remover I found to remove it was “Goof Off” and a 4” scraper. The one caveat is that you need to work in a well ventilated room because it contains the solvents Toluene and Xylene.

    • @marcusl8243
      @marcusl8243 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can easily just scrap pad glue with any typical floor scrapper. There is absolutely no need for any adhesive remover unless it's still wet... the glue he's sanding down in the video is a whole other ball game and the floor is fully covered... when it's bad enough adhesive remover won't do you any good and that's when a demo is the only option.

    Best, fastest, and cheapest way to completely remove glue from concrete. It’s back breaking work but is extremely effective.

    That's a heck of a lot of work to use a 4" cup on. My back hurt just watching you 😆 I've never priced out a rental, but I'd think a 20" floor sander would only cost 30-40/day. That'd knock it out in an hour and save your back. Either way, hour end result was amazing! Looks good 👍

    How about sacrificing some hieght and use a self leveling concrete as an overlay with possibly a screen mesh for structural integrity?

    Thanks for posting this man - I bought my house 4 years ago and the previous owners put carpet on the exterior landing and steps. I've been dreading the time the carpet starts to peel off and it finally has. The steps are a mastic nightmare. I'll grab that diamond wheels you mentioned and give it a go. How many wheels did you use for your project? THANKS!!!

    Hot water, adhesive remover, acetone fairly useless. Don’t want to use muriatic acid as it is such a horrible chemical. Thank you for the video. I think this will work well.

    How are you doing this? Don't you have to hold the angle grinder at an angle which would then gouge the concrete?

    • @thefiXfiles
      @thefiXfiles  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The cup has little gritty pieces in it so you can just hold it flush against the concrete and it works. Sometimes if I hit a tougher patch I would hold it at an angle so it would dig in more. I generally kept it flat though.

    How did you get the carpet off the floor if it was glued down? I have a room off my garage that has carpet glued to concrete and some of it has area where there was water getting into the room and I'd like to remove the carpet but it is glued down

      Use a utility knife to cut around the edges of the carpet. then pull the carpet up. It’s what worked best for me

    Thanks for your video. I haven been trying to find way to remove carpet glue from my garage floor because i bought model home so they used garage as office so when i moved it, they converted the office back to garage, but they hadn't had success to clean the carpet glue so I stopped asking them since they did it twice already. Quick question, when you used the tool to remove the glue at top layer of the concrete, did the tool scrap off any concrete too or just the glue only?

    • @thefiXfiles
      @thefiXfiles  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it grinds the top layer of concrete off. Of course the glue comes with it since that's what its stuck to. If you hold it in the same place for too long it will dig a deeper spot in the surface.

  • @laurens3954
    @laurens3954 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ours is a 16 sq ft area on our porch right in front of our front door. The rest of the porch is fine. The carpet must have just been in that spot. Do you think it will make the concrete lighter than the rest of the porch if I just do that spot?

    • @thefiXfiles
      @thefiXfiles  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I think it’ll probably look different on the areas that you use the grinder on.

  • @fusionpieri9305
    @fusionpieri9305 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for this video. It looks like your barely touching the concrete. Are you skimming, the surface ? You make it look easy. I will probably gouge, the concrete. I better start with a sissier pad.

    • @thefiXfiles
      @thefiXfiles  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was just holding the grinder so that the cup was level on the concrete. It doesn't really take much pressure. I would definitely recommend looking into something to manage the dust though if you're planning on doing this. It gets everywhere and really isn't ideal to be breathing that stuff.

    • @fusionpieri9305
      @fusionpieri9305 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Its sad when you have resort to using an angle grinder to remove glue, whatever happened to American ingenuity. All you need in a scraper and a man or woman with hormones.
