    This video is a rare example. In most cases it’s going to be extremely hard to get the glue removed. If you’ve got stubborn glue that won’t come up the best method is an angle grinder with a concrete grinding/diamond cup wheel. Works every time and will take it down to bare concrete.

    • @squirts1
      @squirts1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      that won't work on the goopy tacky glue

    • @CaptainBrassAss
      @CaptainBrassAss 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@squirts1 In that case you’re probably going to have to rent expensive machinery to get that kind of glue removed. Or you’d have to pour some carpet glue remover on it and let it sit. Then use a heavy duty scraper and remove as much as you can. Let that dry and now you can use the angle grinder with the concrete wheel to remove the rest of the glue and get it down to bare concrete. Either way it’s going to be a tough job.

      @@znLi7 Not really, if you get a diamond grinding cup it shouldn’t gunk up.They’re pretty cheap at Home Depot or Lowe’s. The size space I did was 20’x 15’. Took me an entire day but it worked way better than a scraper or glue remover did.

    Listen to you breathing hard after doing that small section. That means you are sucking all of the loose air-borne particles deeply into your lungs. Not good when you can simply wear a dusk mask, minimally, or a full on breathing mask is better. If that glue was 20 + years old, then who knows what chemicals were allowed in the mixture then that is banned now? For your safety so you can live long enough to do another video.

    I experienced a flood, the house is a rental and 1968. The carpet is old & im told it’s glued. Since it was flooded from a failed sump pump and has been wet since Thursday, how hard is it to DIY rip out the carpet? What should we try or should we just hire? Landlord had no flood insurance and the carpet stinks after he paid Stanley to get as much water out. I don’t think he has the money for carpet and it’s a basement that’s used for laundry only…

    • @FloorsbySouthernboys
      @FloorsbySouthernboys  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should be able to get the carpet up fairly easy, I would take a screwdriver or something like that and get it a corner started and see how easy it’s going to come up before I determined that I was going to do it. Once you get the corner started, you can grab it and start pulling on it to see just how easy it’s going to work. If you do decide to take it up yourself then, you’re going to want to cut it in strips about 1 to 2 foot or 3 foot wide and take it up in pieces like that. Depending on how hard it is to get up will determine how wide you need your strips cut.

      www.fbsb.store/product/better-tools-8-hd-floor-scraper/74.
      If you are a DIY you could probably find one cheaper on Amazon, one that isn’t so heavy duty, the key is having good razor blade in it at all times

    I didn't know it could be so easy❣
    I know it takes some endurance, but I thought it would be much more difficult to scrape up.

      T Floyd Usually if it’s not tacky it’s not too bad to take up

    • @FloorsbySouthernboys
      @FloorsbySouthernboys  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      T Floyd It is important that you have a brand new blade in your scraper though, I went through four blades In that one room just to keep it easy, when your blade gets dull it starts to get hard to deal with

    The previous owners of the house I just bought, glued down carpet on our front porch with no tack strip. It’s just straight on the concrete. We haven’t even tried to remove it yet, but you can already kind of see it’s going to be really sticky and difficult to get off. Any suggestions??

      Rachel Thurow I have used denatured alcohol with razor scrapers in the past, unfortunately it is quite a mess, so good luck

    You can use a grinder if it is a concrete slab . You just have to work off your knees.
