It doesn’t matter how long it takes to shoe a horse. I have seen top quality work in 25 minutes, and I have seen trash in an hour. What’s a good farrier?? He shows up on time. Horses stay sound. Ask around, find a farrier willing to work with you, and be willing to work, it’s gonna be hard at first. Most farriers I’ve known are looking for an apprentice at some point. Lots of times once you get up and going, they will begin to pass new clients off to you. Farrier schools are always a good option as well.

@@sarakleinhenn3652 shoe pullers. I personally don't have nail pullers, but if you straighten out the clenched nails with a hammer and a clinching block, then use the shoe pullers to yank at the heels of the shoe, it'll loosen the nails for you to remove them with the end of the driving hammer. This method that many guys use, including myself, takes longer than just using nail pullers. The reason we do it is because we're cheap and there is a way to do it without having to buy nail pullers, although using nail pullers is quicker. Honestly, I highly recommend getting them for everyone else, I'm kinda just stuck with the way my father and a good farrier buddy thought me awhile back - Habits tend to stick with you even when there are better alternatives, I suppose.

Shew. Now let me first state that the comment I’m about to make isn’t based off of anything I think that’s been done wrong. Anyway, I’ve owned horses since I was 7. The horse I had at 7 was VERY elderly so I only had him 2 years, he was the only horse I’ve owned that NEEDED shoes (navicular and elevation worked best for him). After him, ALL of my horses have just #1 had great feet, & #2 not had steady jobs that preferred shoes. I game but it was for fun and maybe 3-4x a season. The reason I’m bringing all this up is just because it’s been a LONG time since I’ve seen a consistently shod horse and have seen a sole and frog be higher than his walls 😮 (again not hating on shoes , if it’s what keeps your horse sound hey I’ve been there!) just a different sight than I’ve seen in years as I don’t look at horses feet that aren’t mine, while the farriers re shoeing 🤷🏻‍♀️ . But what a difference 😮

Can't believe those are actually nail pullers, thought my boss was crazy and just use a horse shoe puller as a nail puller

Were the clenches unbleached when you did this or is it not necessary??

Meaning the hoof is still flat, not the shoe??
    Super nice workmanship BTW

What happens if a nail snaps off in the horse’s hoof? (Genuinely curious)

Did you unclinch those nails before pulling them out?

Just for your information if this hurt the horse it would kick him, don’t worry about the horse it’s OK, instead worry about the horses that are abused to be raced, edit: or the horses tails that are broken so they stand up straight

  • @BMathiesen

Question. Does this hurt the horse? He didn't seem bothered, but I always wondered if shoeing a horse fresh or even changing them hurts the horse at any point?

@@makmar4484 odd because I'm not dumb so that's wrong. Did you know people ask questions to learn stuff? Sorry I wasn't born with the knowledge of the entire universe.

Why did you have to put a new shoe on there? Just seeing because it looked flat and all that and not to worn down so I don’t know why they are replaced. Idk about horses so that’s why I’m askinf

I just have one question and I know nothing about horses or shooting a horse what do you mean flat is it a literal as in keeping the shoe flat or is it some kind of term for something else

    • @HerbMoore3
