These conversations are an incredible illustration of how complex the Bible is. Many people have a cursory or face value understanding of it, which is perfectly fine, but when you take a deep dive into the scriptures, you will find the absolute beauty and an understanding of things that you were never aware of. This most important thing you can ever understand is the incredible amount of knowledge that you do not have, not just for the Bible, but for anything in the world.
I believe that a central repeated message throughout the old and new testaments rely upon human attitudes and outlook. How many times in scripture do we read, ‘Fear not. Trust in Me. Have faith in My love for you. You are My creation, My children. All will be well under Me in the end.’? Our belief, faith, hope, and reverence are shaped over the course of time throughout what we endure in our lives that are given to us by God. The end result of that manifestation is the story of our individual relationship with Him. WE determine far more of that relationship than maybe we realize. God wants us to hold fast to His message for each of us throughout every storm we encounter on the sea of life. Transforming coal into diamonds requires pressure and heat in prescribed measure.

I think the 1st covenant was so that people were supposed to keep the law, but people failed that. I really like the table set up, it’s almost a round table but the side facing the audience is cut. Seems very inviting, semi circle of equals discussing important philosophies but a inviting aspect to the listeners. Good work!
It is almost painful to listen to highly intellectual minds trying to make God fit their understanding of how things are to be. When God created Adam He intended for His man to walk with Him and commune with Him daily. Adam was created in God's image whereas we are created in the fallen image of Adam after sin entered. At Mt Sinai God invited the people to draw near but they chose to have Moses go and come back and tell them what God had to say. God gave the law, not to make man perfect, but to show him how impossible it was for him to be righteous. The law in essence exposed man's sin and pointed the way to the Way which was to come in the form of God's only Son. The Old Testament could never make man perfect which is why atonement for sin was always required. The sacrifice of Jesus once and for all redeemed man from his sin which is why we now have a much better covenant which was sealed with the Blood of God's own Son. There are only two laws we need keep, the first is Love God the second love our neighbour. You have to do the first .......... first. Which is impossible for the unforgiven man. Far too simple for intellectuals to understand. The Gospel is foolishness to those who are perishing.
Amen [1Co 1:21 KJV] 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
@@drew2fast489 We have the Ten Commandments passed down by Moses given to him by God in Mt.Sainai. We have those laws as a moral code by God's standards to show what righteousness is like. Yet to follow all of them alone is impossible. Only through Jesus who was able to live a perfect life and not our works we can have salvation. And if you dont keep these, its a sin and you are guilty of eternal damnation.
I too am amazed at how such tragic upbringings can result in people who grow up to also inflict horror onto others, but the majority I know (to include myself) do not. Speaking for myself, I know the pain, hate, evil coming from another human onto me. I knew I would never want another human being to feel that or go through similar experiences. Most certainly, I knew would not be the one to become that evil, rather, I would be wise, have understanding, to love (if at a distance,) and to help others who cross my path both abusers inflicting harm or to victims abused.
@@jsbrads1 Thank you! I understand. What I ponder on is what happens when 2 people grow up in similar abusive situation, as adults, 1 will protect and help others and 1 essentially becomes the very person who hurt them by in turn hurting others? What is the element that directed them to behave on opposite ends of the spectrum? External factors, internal factors, belief system, or combinations of the variables? I could have very well grown up to do unto others what was done unto me. Children learn from adults, mimic their parents, solve problems in the same way they’ve seen their parents solve problems and believe it’s just what you do, your parents know best kind of thinking… but I didn’t do that. Same with serial killers. 2 people had similar backgrounds, as children/teens they display behaviors that are commonly seen with adult serial killers… yet one grows up to actually become a serial killer and one doesn’t. What causes the shift in one direction rather than the other?
@@n1njatuber Free will. There may be some social forces which encourage one behavior or the other. That may explain why in the USSR, the norm was soldiers who entered the army were abused by more senior soldiers and then when they were promoted they would abuse those below them. But at the end of it all, it is still free will. It is just harder to be good if everyone else is evil. Maybe that’s why Sodom had to be destroyed, to save man, to retain for us the chance of choosing good.
Jesus is the answer. He took our place. We could never honor our end of the covenant. Like the gentleman said there’s a very simple problem “the lord keeps his promise and humans don’t”. This is why Jesus is the “I am that I am”, he stands in our place. God is not dead. Amen
The marriage can’t be the paper in the file, but the daily respect for the spirit of the togetherness. When they break their oneness at any point, the file sitting in the cabinet doesn’t mean a thing. Contract without honor and faith means nothing
Would be so much more interesting if you had ministers of the Gospel like Voddie Baucham, Mike Winger ,Jeff Durbin, Jack Hibbs or Paul Washer on the series. These are people who are living this out not just pontificating at a University.
I Like Stephen Blackwood's angiology of the Fire. I agree that the Conditions are ones that the Most High IS and is Being (Spiritual Laws). But We want to blame Perfect for our frailties and weaknesses... and NOT seek to incorporate these Laws into our lives. For instance if you see someone with lack of Self Control... Do you expect to have a Stable relationship with them? Or not Loyal.. are they going to be loyal with you.. esp after your first or second major disagreement?
Comparing covenant theology to contract law confuses me. The covenant was made by God and kept by God. God does not need a people, but He has set apart a people for Him.
A covenant is different from a contract. At least to the ancient Israelites. You’d think Peterson would’ve figured that out. A covenant is a sacred family bond; not just a firm agreement.
@@jsbrads1 can't because it is fluid and it's hard to write something that is matter of fact when you need to be able to interact. @@datwistyman I don’t recall having a question. 🤷 Just reading comments and replying. I guess a bit of an observation I made on the difference between a contract and a covenant. A contract can be, if you mow my lawn today, I’ll mow your lawn next week. A contract has a beginning and an end, it has a finite number of line items. A covenant is more like a marriage, it is open ended, thick and thin, regardless of what comes, we will stay together and face it.

Abraham prayed for His father God said no, Abraham prayed for all his descendants God said my covenant does not include the defiantly disobedient Ever since then it's a test of time to see of which of Abrahams children, were those who became defiantly disobedient
I love when wise people discuss publicly 😊…but then I can’t help but think of that bible verse Paul states in 1 Corinthians 1:25 “ ..the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom..” (in context: I think he’s talking about the message of the cross after writing about factions or divisions in the church when some were saying “I follow Paul” or “ I follow Apollos, I follow Christ”).
As a fellow psychology and theology enthusiast, this forum is just so amazing, I admire the fact the, Mr. Peterson is a neutral convener which is evident not because this is his show partly, but because of the carefully designed sitting arrangement and his dress code wearing two different colors dividing in half which thereby denoting, He is in charge as he is sitting in the center, but also that he is not taking a particular side.
The parties to a contract BIND THEMSELVES to the agreed upon performance! They bind themselves by their own wills. But doesn't every contract specify the penalties applicable to the failure of performance of the parties?!
The important thing in the story of the exodus is the journey itself representing the rebirth of the Israelites renewal before they enter the promised land
The law is for rebels! It makes sin manifest and reveals to us our rebellion and the spirit that is at work amongst us. It caused us to cry, what must I do to be saved?
Jesus did the ultimate sacrifice! I recommend to you: Start reading the new Testament and search for christians who can answer your questions, which you will have after reading a bit. God bless you and good faith I wish you on your way 🙏
I would like to see a conversation between Jordan B Peterson and Voddie Baucham concerning what is christianity and how does it play out in the context of the old testament
Thanks! What Dennis Prager says about Auschwitz also happened after the destruction of Judea by Nebuchadnezzar. The exiles witnessed the braking of the covenant and realized that it's up to them to sustain it. With this new understanding, Biblical Religion began to transform into Judaism. It's a process that takes centuries. Now, after Auschwitz the broken covenant is being reestablished in the state of Israel.
@@g_m15 amongst other things, atheism is a reaction to religions degradation, as well to the said breaking of the covenant. It serves as a tool for cleansing our beliefs and dogmas. It's also God's way in history in achieving a deeper understanding of His ways. Hold on.

When God loves a person or a State very much, He makes them suffer. Suffer, suffer and when you see that you can not change anything or anyone else you will change yourself.
Not 100% but I believe he said "for it to be 'a priori' valid, similiar to implicit or predicated. Essentially that the man to man contract must reflect the higher transcendent being(God) to be a valid contract. This was my understanding anyways, could easily be wrong. Cheers
hey was that dennis sprager on the left? he's bein' fairly quiet: that's rather remarkable, eh? [i was about to say, i doubt we get ten whole minutes in, before he's gotta speak:: good man::]
The contract should be found, voluntarily. Nothing to do with autonomy. If found, the contract is the evidence of 'level up', whatever that means in regard to ascension and/or self-help.
I think if you understand Deuteronomy correctly, it's higher meaning hints at soul contracts made before we enter this life. The basis for this is: Deuteronomy 9:5 Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. What contract did the Canaanites make with God? Deuteronomy goes on to explain the blessings and the curses that the children of Israel are bound to. And that they will forget the contract!
Why isn't this free on JP TH-cam channel. I know we all need money but this stuff shouldn't require a price just like JPs first series. The requirement of money for conversations like this is why people don't have faith or believe, obviously as humans we haven't learned.
Hint : About ark of the covenant in old testament Gold : god Timber: human 4 angels: heaven and authority of God Two holy part in Solomon temple for example Earthly church with human hearts, Holiest place gods presence or place
The contracts I’ve had to sign that didn’t get upheld get off on fine print while punishing the signee, hard to trust. In my experience they’re used as an acceptable excuse to punish the one they want to control while not having reciprocation.
Forgive me if I'm wrong... I think God saw how they were treated extra bad and wanted to help them and give them the promise land, but they had to earn it by showing faith and obedience. Like a Father would his child. A reward if you will or promise ❤
God cannot break his covenant. He told them exactly what would happen if they broke the covenant in the book of Deuteronomy if he didn't bring the Holocaust God would have been proved a liar. What it shows is that God still kept the covenant even after the events of the Holocaust because he loves the Jewish people he will punish them to the proper degree but he will always brings them back into his house.
Yes, the commandments are simpler to comprehend. It's the belief in that system that'll work. I'd tie the commandments with rearranging how law should be implemented. (Words should of turned into action.) Let's consolidate and resolve - very delicate measure because people like comfort. The questions are numerous to say but what is best for human behaviour.
I think the one thing that is missing from this conversation is the promise to Abraham that happened 400 years before the law was given. It was not contractual. It was one sided. The promise is all on God and man has no part.

Thank You for making the attempt to open Your and Our hearts. We have nobody / nothing else to look up to.....Our Lord is the only Begining and the final Destination for every person. Who could Love and Hope and Understand and Act - will be saved now and forever.... And this is a truely Good News.

What a lovely conversation.
We wrestle not against Flesh and blood but against powers against principalities against the rulers of this world against spiritual Wickedness in high places.
I really like the table set up, it’s almost a round table but the side facing the audience is cut. Seems very inviting, semi circle of equals discussing important philosophies but a inviting aspect to the listeners. Good work!
I love what he is doing with his suit. I hope he keeps it up.
So glad these started back up. Perfect timing team.
I love these discussions!

Amen
[1Co 1:21 KJV] 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
Amen!
Amen, one cannot fully comprehend what Jesus did on that cross without the Holy Spirit in them ❤ 🕊️
I agree with most of this, I'm just wondering why you're thinking we have 2 laws we must live by. What'll happen if I don't keep these laws?
I believe Jordan said the vast majority of people who grow up suffering, spend the rest of their lives trying to protect others from suffering.
Fascinating conversation
That suite is symbolic of the mindset on the platform.

Hello 👋🏻 Beautiful Lady 🌹.. How are you doing today and your weather condition like?
Would be so much more interesting if you had ministers of the Gospel like Voddie Baucham, Mike Winger ,Jeff Durbin, Jack Hibbs or Paul Washer on the series. These are people who are living this out not just pontificating at a University.
Voddie is a legend !
Hibbs, et al, learn from philosiphers and such. We are familiar with Greek Latin Aramaic...these men go further....
Love this series
I Like Stephen Blackwood's angiology of the Fire. I agree that the Conditions are ones that the Most High IS and is Being (Spiritual Laws). But We want to blame Perfect for our frailties and weaknesses... and NOT seek to incorporate these Laws into our lives. For instance if you see someone with lack of Self Control... Do you expect to have a Stable relationship with them? Or not Loyal.. are they going to be loyal with you.. esp after your first or second major disagreement?
Love Jordan Peterson's blue and red jacket.😊
If a Lawyer was involved in that Contract, then it’s worthless.
Yes, I would have cited Job for their "conclusion" that God broke the contract 😂
Epic exchange, never heard anything like this. Too many profound truthes to take in single viewing.
So many dots to connect.
Exodus is about the new beginning with God and FREEDOM.
Thank you gentlemen!!!!!🙃👍🙏
Comparing covenant theology to contract law confuses me. The covenant was made by God and kept by God.
God does not need a people, but He has set apart a people for Him.
“God seems to need” No sir! God needs absolutely nothing and no one. God is perfectly Holy and content in Himself
A covenant is different from a contract. At least to the ancient Israelites. You’d think Peterson would’ve figured that out. A covenant is a sacred family bond; not just a firm agreement.
Intellectual & spirit should go hand to hand. Great discussion.

Nice duality jacket Jordan
I wish this was free on TH-cam.
The parties to a contract BIND THEMSELVES to the agreed upon performance! They bind themselves by their own wills. But doesn't every contract specify the penalties applicable to the failure of performance of the parties?!
For us it's hell, for God - well He won't break it?

The important thing in the story of the exodus is the journey itself representing the rebirth of the Israelites renewal before they enter the promised land
The law is for rebels!
It makes sin manifest and reveals to us our rebellion and the spirit that is at work amongst us. It caused us to cry, what must I do to be saved?

What Dennis Prager says about Auschwitz also happened after the destruction of Judea by Nebuchadnezzar. The exiles witnessed the braking of the covenant and realized that it's up to them to sustain it. With this new understanding, Biblical Religion began to transform into Judaism. It's a process that takes centuries.
Now, after Auschwitz the broken covenant is being reestablished in the state of Israel.
Atheists will decide what happens when, right? Madness!
@@g_m15 amongst other things, atheism is a reaction to religions degradation, as well to the said breaking of the covenant. It serves as a tool for cleansing our beliefs and dogmas. It's also God's way in history in achieving a deeper understanding of His ways.
Hold on.

Why isn't anyone talking about the book of Job here? (I love to conversation, BTW) There is a tradition that Moses wrote the book of Job in order to get at the very questions they are raising. I would love to hear Pageau or Peterson talk about Job. As far as I know, neither of them really have.
This is truly great scholarship.
Very interesting as always. Giving God a trial, I can't facepalm enough.. Anyway, every time I watch an Exodus episode, I have the feeling that Mr Prager isn't participating for the learning but only to defend himself and the jews.
When God loves a person or a State very much, He makes them suffer. Suffer, suffer and when you see that you can not change anything or anyone else you will change yourself.
What is the phrase Jordan uses at 5:00?
His suit is two colors :o
what profundity is this?
A fan made it, there is a clip where he shows it off.
I think if you understand Deuteronomy correctly, it's higher meaning hints at soul contracts made before we enter this life.
The basis for this is:
Deuteronomy 9:5 Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
I heard the entire series will be uploaded to TH-cam at some point, perhaps for a short time or permanently.
This is good😮
What Jordan said about the contract was beautiful!
Hint : About ark of the covenant in old testament
Gold : god
Timber: human
4 angels: heaven and authority of God
Two holy part in Solomon temple for example
Earthly church with human hearts,
Holiest place gods presence or place
