In this film, we meet Ayana and Sophie, who talk about what it feels like to live and learn with dyslexia, while Professor Maggie Snowling explains what dyslexia is and how to spot signs of dyslexia early on.
Dyslexia is a learning difficulty, which affects around 10% of the population. Dyslexia mainly impacts a child’s writing and reading skills. Unless it is understood and supported by the school and parents, dyslexia can impact a child’s experience of education, their self-esteem and mental health.
Dyslexia is a neurological difference and each person’s experience of dyslexia is different, ranging from mild to severe, often occurring with other learning difficulties. Of course, thinking differently is also a huge strength and many dyslexic children shine in areas such as reasoning and in visual and creative areas, which is why it’s so vital that we understand how to help all children thrive.
