- A 31-year-old mother was struck and killed on the FDR as she tried to cross the highway. Now police are looking for the driver who didn't stop to help. CBS New York's Alice Gainer reports.

it’s possible the person may not have known they struck a person, not expecting anyone to be walking there… perhaps they thought it was an animal. time will tell.

Watch the whole video, it definitely is an easy mistake to make. I've played baseball right there and if there is NO fence, it's highway only. Very sad, the City will have to pay big

It's kind of hard to explain, you know the parks by the fdr? There's just a barrier between the highway and the park. But that barrier was NOT there and it was dark, look towards the end of video. It could happen if she walked up by mistake, car surprised her and boom.
She didn’t intended to cross the fdr’ she was going to walk trough the walk path that takes you to the crossing bridge’ but there’s construction being made in the walk path and at that time maybe she didn’t see the signs that the path walk was redirected o” close. The reporter didn’t explained it correctly.🤦🏻♀️🤷🏼♀️💔

I lived in LES for a year and used to run by there 3-4x a week, there's no doubt the signs there are unclear for most people first coming across the construction work. I'd imagine most women are also concerned about walking along here at night - wanting a safe well lit route, and that may have also played some part in this
except that there’s literally 3 exits out of the park and the houston overpass, 10th st bridge or all the way to 21st. everything south of houston is closed and dug up. how do you forget that you had to cross an overpass of some sort

I’ve drive on the FDR constantly, there were three occasions I came across a pedestrian on the highway. Twice in that area and once further north by the RFK bridge exit. I never understood how someone could make that crossing with no lights and the center median in the way. Trying to cross 6 lanes of highway in the dark is not a smart. Signs or no signs. Common sense seems to not be so common these days

This constructions are not putting up the proper signs or big trucks are blocking them. I seen so many accidents happen because poor management of a construction zone. Hopeless her family sues the construction company and the city for not enforcing safety for pedestrians.
