@@krishurlburt7375as a mastiff owner, she's just had pups hence being slightly underweight, her breed English and being a female she is smaller less muscular than a male...she is otherwise in good condition and with good food she will regain her weight...as for big eaters, there not they have 2 average dinner plate sized meals daily, which is 1 wet and 1 dry and a few small healthy snacks between meals

Most shelters won't take owner surrenders
People wanting to talk bad about the person leaving her there.....they at least left her with food and note.....most likely someone that wasn't any longer able to take cars of her....sadly people say take and drop off at an animal rescue/shelter and most of those places won't take owner surrendered pets any longer so this person might not have had any choices.😢

My daughter found 2 German shepherds tied to a pole near where she took her morning run. The note said “I’m sorry I just can’t take care of them”.
She brought them home and found them homes within a few weeks.
We have always wondered if someone watched us at that trail. We have 2 German shepherds of our own. This is a VERY rural area and that trail is not used much during the work week. Whoever left them knew we knew GSD’s by seeing us with ours out there or they left them for someone more active because GSD need to burn energy.
These weren’t mutts. It amazes me how anyone abandon’s an animal but I’m always perplexed at people who pay over a thousand for a dog and then abandon it. Two. SMH.

That is a odd story. I also have a couple German Shepherds and someone would saw my dogs on Facebook wanted to know if I wanted another one. I ended up taking him because I was worried about him going to the pound were most dogs meet their end.
I rescued 2 pitbulls that were found chained to a pole off a highway. I live about 500 miles from where they were found and the shelter was overjoyed that I wanted both.. the charged me nothing and had them brought to me.. that was about 8 yrs ago.. I still have them

I adopted a Mastiff from my local SPCA. Best friend I ever had! She was the neighborhood pet. She was 14 when she past. Miss her still!

At least the owner left a note to share her name and that they tried to do something nice ... Flea bath. People in hardship often do not trust organization like humans society or places dogs are turned in as they hear about dogs being killed at these places....and recently all the over crowding!The person obviously wanted someone kind to find her, who perhaps would have money to raise her further or followup to see she would get a good home. Perhaps humans societies etc should not make is so difficult and scary to turn in dogs. So instead of saying hateful things and threatening them with punishment, say a prayer for them as well as Rosie. Stupid newscaster and person who found dog ...shelter and law! Get off your high horses else karma may hit you back harder than the person who could not keep her!!!
So leaving her tied up with a leash that doesn't even allow her to lay down, exposed to the elements, exposed to asshole humans that may find it fun to torture her, exposed to potential predators that can kill her is better?! No, if you can't take care of the dog anymore, do the right thing and find a no-kill shelter. At the very least, stay with your dog until you can find her a good home. They left her to die. I understand times are hard and she would be expensive to care for. There's no judgement there, but they went about it in a way that was cruel. Find a loving forever home for her and have no shame in your circumstance. (The ones I hate are the ones that have no shame in abandoning a dog after it is no longer a "cute puppy," usually saying something lame like "we're moving." People really need to think about caring for a pet for around 20 years before getting one on impulse and understand the needs and expenses of having such a pet. If you can't understand the frustration of shelter workers when they have to deal with your poor decision, maybe you need to volunteer to understand their point of view and how frustrating it is when you just want to help animals.) She seemed to be well loved and nourished beforehand for 4 years.
(On a completely random point, I have a strange gut feeling like the owner did something drastic like commit suicide. This dog was obviously loved and cared for before, so why the sudden and drastic neglect?)

@@Lakota828 The leash allowed her to eat her food, it allowed her to lay down. All you have to do is look at the video of her sitting by the pole (approx 30 seconds in) to see that. For every negative you put there it also allowed someone to find her, love her, and take her home. I am not sure what they were thinking or why they couldn't take them to a shelter but I do know that Mastiff's are not allowed in a lot of shelters where I live (Rotties, Pitties, Chows, etc...). That may have been the case here.
I agree with you that something had to have changed. I hope it wasn't what you are surmising but it does feel like it was a last ditch effort on their part.

I'm sorry the owner felt they had to do this, but I don't hate the person. I hope Roxy finds an excellent home and that the owner does a lot better in the future. I'm sure this was a painful thing for them to do.
Agreed. Obviously their were much better ways the owner can handle it not leaving the dog on such a short leash for one, and not in the hot sun, and a side of the road, and obviously the flea bath didn’t work since they said she would covered in fleas, but it seems they were at least trying to do something if it would help so I suppose that should count for something. Particularly in terms of what charge they face.

They left the dog in a heavily populated place. And the dog was placed there in the early morning hours. And found before sun rise.

It's crazy how heartless and selfish people can be. My dog is my best friend, he's a living thing with feelings, I would never leave him for a stranger to find, especially not with the way that people treat animals these days. If I would be kicked out of a place I am renting because of my dog, we would be homeless together until I could find a new place. Abandoning a pet that loves you and doesn't understand why you left them is beyond brutal, I don't care if she was left with food and a note or not.
Yeah to each there own but this seem like too much. Your apartment full of your things and your dog now out on the street because you just can't give him up? That's not the way. Pets are pets... not something you should ruin your life for.

@NemeanLion- I am not making excuses, but we don't know their circumstances. Maybe they couldn't go to a shelter. Maybe they don't have a car. Maybe they thought someone will see the dog right away. I learned not to make assumptions, you never know what someone else is going through.

@@pinky9440I fully agree with you. While it is certainly not ideal, better off tied to a pole with a note and food than some of the other horrible ways I've seen people get rid of their dogs. Neglected until they starve to death, thrown out of moving vehicles, shot and left to die.
It's really hard to know what is going on in somebody's life or in their mind. Nobody in their right mind would throw a baby into a dumpster to get rid of it, but people do it all the time.
It's not so much giving an excuse as it is maybe trying to understand the reasoning behind it to try and educate and hopefully be able to sometimes prevent it from happening.

Not a typical dump. The note says to me that there was some love and concern there. Perhaps a home full of DV and threats to hurt the dog. Glad she’s safe and hope she finds her forever home.

If you don't want or can't care for a dog take it to a vet, animal shelter or similar don't leave then tied up to something, in a dumpster, abandoned in a yard ...there sentient beings not throw away rubbish, treat them with love, respect, kindness, gentleness and love

I don’t get it. The note indicates some form of compassion for the animal so why not take it to a shelter. It doesn’t make sense.

This is part of a much larger issue... for some reason it's become harder for people to live and provide for themselves let alone a pet. This issue seems to be getting worse and the stray pet population just keeps growing.
If you are unable to care for a pet... surrender at an animal shelter.

@@flouserschird yes, very sad! 90% sure that’s what most likely happened. My Fiancé bought a puppy for 4,000 to breed but for some reason the fur baby took to me and not him, it felt like everyday on the news I started seeing how animals were being abused, and it was mostly the breed that he had purchased. One day when he was gone to work I took him to get fixed! He was so upset with me but I couldn’t live with myself breeding and selling and not knowing if the puppies were going to safe home. He cried for about 3weeks behind my decision but I stand by it!

Those people reaching out to find a good home should also help local shelters and help finding homes for pets on their own state not just a dog that made it in to the news, don’t get me wrong I’m glad she is safe but let’s help local shelters here in the west coast… unfortunately too many dogs are being killed for space due to overcrowding and of course due to negligent people discarding dogs and cats like they are trash .

I love my mastiff and this makes me so upset and sad.
As someone who has found stray dogs and tried to surrender them to a shelter I will say it's not easy. Most are full, tried no kill and regular shelters and no one would take them. Ended up walking down with them to the UT campus and asking if anyone wanted some huskies. It worked.
The highway is one of the worst places to leave a dog . She could easily have gotten loose and got hit by a car . So irresponsible 😡

You really don't know the situation of the person who abandoned her, they left food and a note. They wanted her to be found by the location where they left her so she would be seen. It's seem like she had puppies in the past or recent and didn't want her anymore too. Look underweight to me. But, it's not the right way to give a way a beautiful, gentle dog like that!
I am sure that having to do this broke the owner's heart. Don't charge the owner. They probably can not afford to take care of their beloved friend anymore. Life is really tough these days.

That looks like the dog back home name Angus who was also abandoned like that they finally caught him the town where I'm from adopted him and he became the ambassador of the town living in the Humane Society he even was behind the desk I spent time with him and played with him he died he was a good dog and I miss him😢

Dogs know when you are leaving them for good. They dont know the difference between back in a minute or back in a month. I use to take my dog to car detailing work with me, tie her to a fence next to me while I clean. Even pulling the cars out and parking them had her looking at me like "youre coming back right?" Killed me everytime

Used her for breeding and then when she wasn't "useful" to them anymore they dumped her.... Poor girl.... She's a beautiful gentle giant.... I hope she finds her way into a loving home very soon....
This may not have been an ideal way of giving up your dog but with food and a leash is much better than dropping her off in the middle of nowhere.

Well the owner is not all bad. The dog doesn't look abused. He left the dog with food. He probably didn't want to go to the animal shelter because they kill 80 percent of the dogs they get. If he had just let the dog go it might have got hit by a car, so he tied where people would see her. He might not have been able to afford the dog's care anymore, and just had to give her up. I spend a hundred a month on dog food, it adds up. From the note my guess it he had to move and couldn't take her or couldn't afford her anymore.

I mean they left their dog in the summer heat with little food and no water. There have been sadly many cases where people don't stop to see if an animal needs help, and they die where they were abandoned. Shelters aren't great but leaving animals with complete strangers in a place where anyone with bad intentions can just grab them is still bad imo.

In a twist of irony, the owners seemingly callous abandonment of the dog has produced such attention that many potential homes have been found for her. If the owner has surrendered her to an appropriate shelter, the fully grown adult dog may have languished there for quite some time.
Why risk criminal charges for this? Why not just bring her directly to a shelter? Poor Roxi.
The owner didn't even know what breed of mastiff it was. Maybe Roxi got bigger than they expected, and they did this to avoid the cost of owning her. Not condoning this in the slightest as I have two mastiffs myself. Hopefully a loving family takes her in and gives her a great life.
