Just finished rebuilding my motor and now it actually works! I was having an issue with my 87 XJ-SC where the wipers wouldn't work at all and the fuse kept blowing when I tried to use them. Previous owner paid $450 to have the wiper assembly replaced with a used one, but it likely had never been cleaned and wasn't far behind the one that was removed. Turns out the motor was so packed full of rust and seized that I had to hammer it apart and clean it. Soaked the entire motor (in pieces) in a vinegar bath to loosen up the rust, cleaned it up with a wire brush and some sandpaper, and with a little trial and error it spun once again! Thanks for the info, especially about what each pin does on the 8-pin connector - that was helpful for testing.
You can, I would check out Kirby palms book for these cars if you don't have it already, search for Kirby palms experience in a book for the xjs is is a free download, I had tons of info about it.
Really well explained. I have a broken magnet and need to glue in a new one from a parts motor. Can you tell me if the like poles are supposed to be placed together or apart? Thanks
I got hold of a wiper motor ('85 XJ-S) which had low power, turned the wrong direction and overheated. Turns out the magnets had been removed and reglued with the unlike poles near each other. After removing one of them and gluing it in place with the like poles placed next to each other (they try to jump away from each other), the motor works perfectly.
@@TheRetroBen The magnet did break when I removed it from the incorrect position. I then glued it into place with a small amount of super glue to test that the motor would work, then after confirming that it did, I was able to break the hold of the super glue and then fixed the pieces into place with epoxy using clamps to hold them into place.

I have an 88 xjs-c I appreciate the wiper video and the test procedure. Can I test the stalk switch without removing it from the column? Thanks

When the magnet breaks, it then has dissimilar poles that need to be pushed together, it can be quite a challenge to get them together.

Thank you so much for the video. I am rebuilding my motor as well. May need to consult you for help with wiring.
Thanks, I am glad the video helped out. It was a quick video not really planned out but I thought it may be useful for someone.
excekkent!
