The current Ipswich Town squad and their meteoric rise is probably the biggest story in English football since Leicester City won the Premier League and Liverpool won their first Premier League title in 30 years.
I hope that Ipswich do go up in the second automatic promotion place this year because they thoroughly deserve to and if they get the right level of financial support and are shrewd enough in the transfer market i don't really see why they can't stay in the Premier League and make a bid for a mid-table finish.

I 10000% agree with this. fingers crossed for a result tonight.

Portman Road being a Premier League stadium just feels right.

"Leicester are a bigger club' - well perhaps in the last ten years, but prior to that, no.
Ipswich had won the league, the FA Cup and the UEFA cup, none of which Leicester had achieved before 2016. They were a genuine force in English football in the 70s and 80s.

And the only club to win the top league in their first ever season in it in 1962. And produce two England managers, one of whom won it, the other got to the semi final. All from a town of just 150,000 people. Compare with Leeds 792,000. The most football town in Britain

As an Ipswich fan it’s nice to be acknowledged. But realistically it’s not a once in a lifetime achievement. Back to back promotions from League One to the Premier League have been done by both Southampton and Norwich. Both came 2nd in those respective seasons too.
The only difference is the points tally. So many other years Ipswich could have been champions. But for Leicester and their dominance. Even with the slip up.

That’s fair, it’s just nice to see that the three that got relegated didn’t just come straight back up

Don’t underestimate the success that a good manager can bring. There are very few managers like McKenna, and I have a feeling he will strengthen much more for the premier league. With all the big spenders wanting to offload young talent to be within FFP rules, will be to Ipswich town’s benefit. In two seasons McKenna has achieved 191 Points, 191 Goals!

Ipswich were on their way to becoming permanent residents of League 1 and the prospect of back to back promotions is very exciting. Although I'm an Ipswich fan I think Luton's comeback from non-league to the Premiership is more impressive.

As a Leicester person, I went to watch Ipswich Town v Wycombe Wanders at home in League one.
    Ipswich won 4 nil.
I was so impressed with the style of their game I could see another Leicester City looming. So much so I put £10 on Ipswich winning the Championship before they even got there.
Although they just missed out to Leicester it's been a very entertaining bet.
Hope they go up tomorrow. ps Ipswich Town supporters are the best, very patriotic.

63 years ago Ipswich were promoted to the old First Division under a rather special young manager - Sir Alf.
In their first season in the top flight they finished champions - the only club ever to win the League immediately after their promotion. That was an astounding achievement.
We seem to have a great young manager…… The best may be to come!
Step one - let’s win well on Saturday!

Spurs won consecutive 2nd tier & top tier championships in 1949/50 & 1950/51, Nottingham Forest did similar in 1976/77 & 1977/78 (not as 2nd tier champions, though). Both clubs had been in Division I before, so Town's special achievement is in being the only club to have won the top tier championship in the club's first season in the top tier, also having been in the Football League for just 17 seasons.

Like Wrexham, going up two league's in two years is a mega achievement, in Ipswich's case get ready for relegation next year. They just cannot afford to invest £150 million to stay up. The gulf between the PL and the Championship is huge.

Last season all 3 promoted sides stayed up, this season Ipswich beat a premier league team in the cup and narrowly lost to another, the gal isn’t that big, Luton didn’t spend £150m and they have a chance of staying up

Their billionaire owners gave them 700 million pounds which does not have to be repaid.... PLUS any addition payments from the PL... what are your thoughts now?

Ipswich recently received £105m for a 40% share in the club. There is a war chest. But my guess is they will not be in too much of a hurry to make a lot of signings. They have prospered by bedding players in gradually

If you did your homework you'd realise it's not so much of a shock after all, great but not a shock. Their owners are Billionaires who GAVE Ipswich 700 million which they do not have to pay back and MOST of their team are loan signings from the Premiership.. inc players from Man City. Glad for them

You are completely wrong. The owners are a US (Arizona) public service pension fund who bought the club for £40m three years ago. They own the club to make money. Last year they posted losses of £20m but this has been more than offset by the increased value of the club. Two months ago they sold a 40% share to a private equity company for £105m, which therefore valued the club at £260m. In the three years since the owners took over the club has spent less than £10m on signings. Six of the team who started against Coventry last night were playing League One last year. The rest were loanees and one free agent. Don’t preach about homework while doing none yourself
