- Daisy Bell is an old song composed by Harry Dacre in 1892, and it’s the first song used to make a computer sing in 1961, thanks to a “speech synthesis system” developed by IBM that programmed the first computer to sing specific phrases.
For this video I use the “Pocket Miku”, a stylophone which is a digital vocaloid based synthesizer with Hatsune Miku’s voice, the most famous Vocaloid character, and I can program it to pronounce and sing (almost) any kind of word as well!
I think that playing this song is a really nice analogy between the old IBM and this more recent Pocket Miku synthesizer!
Maybe I’ll make a more detailed video about the Pocket Miku stylophone and how it works!

The IBM 7094 first sang it as the first machine to sing a song. Now it's granddaughter Daisy (mostly known now as Hatsune Miku) have both sang the classic love song!

@@Electronmiku yeah but not sure if it's worthy, there's a guitar pedal with MIku voice sound inside, that includes just some vowels and default phrases, so it's pretty limited and now it's also super expansive! so I'm gonna try another way soon with the gear I already have 🙃

Through the official dedicated software online! 😁 you can make her sing or say anything you want thanks to it, just typing the text!
The lyrics are just a script that will be followed regardless of where the stylophone (Mikuphone?) is tapped. She sings in key by the program modulating the key to the one pressed with the contact stylus.
@@mmasque2052 but how do you get the program ''into'' the stylophone? It doesnt look plugged in and it doesnt sound like it was recorded on a program either
You use the program just to set the lyrics, then you can play it stand alone, I recorded it directly with external microphone, you can do it plugging it in too through audio cable and interface, but it adds a reverb I don't like really much

you can find it on Ebay - new or pre-owned - or on Reverb - only used - ; it's not that cheap as it was though...And better if you know japanese alphabet to use it! 🙃( you can play it as it comes with vocals and built-in japanese phrases, but if you want to make it sing in english you have to program it on a japanese software online, on a japanese dedicated website, in japanese script...That's the only way! 😅 )
