Since the servers for the Miku Domino app is no longer up. it's impossible to capture packets from the now non-existent server to reverse engineer them. The GTS servers, in the meanwhile, had packet captures when the servers were still up. The advanced announcement of the server shutdowns beforehand would give people an opportunity to grab needed packets to reverse engineer and program a server emulator for GTS.
Cthul-who the Wii’s WFC service, Connect 24 services are already restored thanks to the Wii modding community. So yes, a private server to restore a dead service is 100% possible.
Ironically i've actually been working on this as a personal project, and managed to reverse engineer some of the app It downloads the assets needed for AR mode from domino's servers, but since they're dead right now the app fails and crashes. Me and another friend are thinking of recreating them, but due to many real life stuff we still haven't decided. In order to get the original assets now we'd have to find someone that, had the app installed while the servers were up, used the AR feature, is jailbroken, and hasn't factory reset the device since then What I have managed to get past is the initial loading screen the app shows. I managed to get it to "load" but it only displays some placeholder art. I also got it to 'run' doom but since the only 32 bit apple device I own is so old I can't make it playable.

Since it's a Unity app, it's written in ObjC transpiled from C# and since they got the files they can look into the source code for the API calls. It's much harder than for GTS, but doable since you've got the sources

In order to perfectly preserve the AR function, we'd have to either get incredibly lucky and recreate every model and every animation 1:1, or the Domino's Pizza servers that somehow hold all of this would have to get leaked, if they even exist anymore.
We would have to find a device then that would have the assets saved, since when it worked. Though that's nothing easy to do i'm sure its a way of doing it
I don't think that's necessarily true. It's possible the data is still on a phone that had the app installed when it still worked, or in an iCloud backup somewhere.

my android build can run on BlueStacks, but then again could possibly make a windows/webgl export if needed. but it is designed for mobile for now and honestly BlueStacks does give a decent result.

I live in Japan and use Japanese websites very often. Sites as nice as this one are the vast, VAST minority. A ton of Japanese websites are plain text, even in 2020. The majority of them look like they were made in the late 90s. It's really honestly sad.

I was just about to get rid of my old iPhone5 that I've been using for the past 4 years. It's got a cracked screen, two black holes of dead pixels, and a very short battery life. This video has now given me reason to hold onto my old phone and use it to do my part in saving Domino's Miku from annihilation.

Interesting mostly because of it's obscurity.
Internet is getting scrubbed too much though, and I don't think these internet artifacts will persist as long as real ones do. I predict much of what exists in e-space right now will be gone forever in 100 years. Maybe less.

I hate that I know this, but The Disappearance of Hatsune Miku was actually around before Domino's even made the original promotion. There was even a response song, which was posted around the time the Domino's tie-in was.

The original AR functionality is gone. All that stuff was stored on Domino's servers.

In order to perfectly preserve the AR function, we'd have to either get incredibly lucky and recreate every model and every animation 1:1, or the Domino's Pizza servers that somehow hold all of this would have to get leaked, if they even exist anymore.
We would have to find a device then that would have the assets saved, since when it worked. Though that's nothing easy to do i'm sure its a way of doing it
I don't think that's necessarily true. It's possible the data is still on a phone that had the app installed when it still worked, or in an iCloud backup somewhere.

There's already a couple iOS emulators for PC though I have no idea how well they work.
my android build can run on BlueStacks, but then again could possibly make a windows/webgl export if needed. but it is designed for mobile for now and honestly BlueStacks does give a decent result.

I live in Japan and use Japanese websites very often. Sites as nice as this one are the vast, VAST minority. A ton of Japanese websites are plain text, even in 2020. The majority of them look like they were made in the late 90s. It's really honestly sad.

I was just about to get rid of my old iPhone5 that I've been using for the past 4 years. It's got a cracked screen, two black holes of dead pixels, and a very short battery life. This video has now given me reason to hold onto my old phone and use it to do my part in saving Domino's Miku from annihilation.
Thank god you didn’t, those things are like the best Apple products ever made and has the final soul of Steve Jobs in it. I own a lot of 32 bit Apple devices but make sure to keep yours safe, and I’m glad you’re doing it for Miku as well!
