- trying my best to simplify it! the most important part is marking the pipe out properly so your cuts angles align in the saw
the basic Lazy mans formula to make a 90 degree bend (you can apply to any bend)
90 degrees with 4 welded joints (5 pieces in total)
= 90 ÷ 4 = 22.5 degrees
you need to make every cut at half of that (11.25 degrees)
because two 11.25deg cuts will meet up to create a 22.5 turn
so you will need to do eight 11.25 degree cuts in total
once you've done this a few times you'll see that you don't need really need a formula as you can sort of eyeball it and know roughly what angles to cut, you can tweak this to suit any kind of bend you need, I find I rarely need a perfect 90degree bend
a 4 joint bend is pretty basic, to make a smoother radius bend we just factor in more pieces, with a smaller cut angle
so 90÷5 = 18 degrees ÷ 2 = 9 degree cuts
you need ten 9 degree cuts to achieve a bend with 5 joints
and so on

I have few tips for you:
1. Use aluminium angle to draw lines on pipe.
2. If possible always make one mark where the seam of the pipe is, that way you can figure position if you wipe of your marks
2.a cut two times the pieces you need if you do same diameter pie cuts often, that way you can join all the pie cuts with seam on inside and seam on outside.
3. Use works stop that way you dont need to measure each piece individualy
4. Wel a metal flat bar or angle iron on the end of pipe, on your two marks that you made. that way you can use small magnetic water level to turn pipe 180 degrees, or magnetic angle meter if you are making a "corkscrew" curve.

lay a piece of angle iron on the pipe to draw straight lines
or hold ur texture tight and use ur pinky as a guide, doesnt have to be a perfect line as its only there for a rough reference
Just along as your angle iron is straight this works
Use a pipe combination square to mark out 2 sides, then grab a piece of angle to mark the lines down the tube.

If you’ve got a piece of angle iron half the size of the pipe I find that’s the easiest way to mark a straight line halfway down the pipe.

A bit late to this video apparently but if you took the time to mark out your saw, you obviously only work with certain tubing diameters. I would just get some angle iron of the appropriate size making a C channel of sorts and cut it at the right height for the tubing. This give you both sides on a 180 and if you mark the bottom of the channel you have the reference for a 90 turn which gives you the other 180 marks. You could have it traced out in 2 minutes on each tubing section and be done with it. Just food for thought. I use a center finder that I made out of angle to give me my center on all different size tubing as a start.

A flexible tape measure from spotlight or a junk shop works perfect for pipe layout or even better one of the magnetic pipe layout tools. for drawing the line along the tube, use a 90 angle as it will sit squarely on the tube.

A better way to mark straight lines down the tube is to use a pipe centering combination square. That will get you a mark exactly 180* from the other on the profile of the pipe. That’s all I use for pie cuts. Then to draw the line I find something long and straight, lay it down beside the pipe, then rotate the pipe until the pen will glide down the pipe at the desired height.

2, 2x4 boards ripped down to 1 1/4 on the table saw. Put the tube between the 2 1 1/4 boards and trace them with the pen. Faster than the engineer square by far.
Great video, probably the best method. Maybe instead of using a marker and ruler for the straight line you could use thin masking tape

Use a hole punch on each line. Put one punch on line one, 2 punches on line 2, three punches on line 3, and so on. This will allow you to clean the pipe and prep for tax/welding.
I'm trying to buy this bandsaw but the company that sells them wont sell to the states. Literally the fastest cleanest cut I've seen on stainless tube. What blade are you using and how many cuts are you getting out of it?
What spray lube are you using ?
What brand is this

Hey im curious with that bandsaw the specs say its limited 90degree and 100mm then 45degree at 72mm are those specs how im reading them? It seems to smaller degree your more limited so i would of thought at 11 degrees the diamter would be like 40mm but your cutting more then that
Im confused, i do want to cut 2-4inch at 10-20 degrees but will this machine do so? Just want to use it for general fab, dumps, manis, exhaust etc etc. So biggest probably would be 3-4 rarely.
Hey man I think you might be reading the specs wrong, it only gets limited angle as you go up in size, I can cut anything up to 4 inch up to 45 degrees and below that I can do anything up to 65 which it's limited at

@@rickrimpson2893 no worries, yeah I have the bs5 but the 4 will do fine, only downside on the bs4 is it takes longer to change angles and it has a smaller blade ,but I had no problems with either
@@mattd5117 hey man i got it, it works awesome. Only problem is blade is stuff already you did warn us they had no in stock only blades i can find is 1645 and this saber is 1642, will that matter to much? Other dimension are right the 12.7 and 0.65mm cheers
@@rickrimpson2893 nice, contact alltools or someone similar who deals in "excision" brand blades they will order the right one as the carbon blades are shit house , that measurement is mm long though so 3mm won't matter

I've got a better method, it's guaranteed 100% accurate everytime, for drawing your straight line mate. Place that fucking meter of stainless inside a piece of angle iron, or place a length of angle iron on top of your pipe, and trace your line.
