If you cut the tint closer to the size of the window it's far easier to cut the edges and you get a far better/closer fit to the edge as you don't have all the excess bending and pulling the tint away from the window when pressing the tint into the edges and cutting with knife.

Also, use the factory cut edge on one side as it's perfectly cut... means you only need 3 cuts

  • @vtrandal

Excellent process overall. You don’t need to put your dirty foot or shoe on the tint at 6:15 into the video. Just pull off the clear film using left and right hands. Then spray the film. But really this second spray step is a step you can skip entirely since you sprayed the window. I also noticed your edging tool and razor knife process implies you don’t need the edging tool, because on the upper edge of the window you placed the razor knife between the edging tool and the window frame (razor knife in contact with the window frame). In this case the window frame can function as the edging tool. But in some cases (perhaps wood windows) you would use the edging tool to keep the razor knife away from the the window frame. Excellent work. Thank you for making this video.

as an installer of this type of films.
    1. awesome video ;) seen pro guys do it worse.
    2. 95% correct.
    a few tips.
    - cleaning is 95% of the job of installing any window film.. tint or other window films..
one thing I must note that was not good on your video.
the cutting. (never cut on the windowframe side most windows have rubber or other insolation that will press on the film and push it up).. =/ neverending sorrow.
depending on the knife quality, you have to snap the blade after each cut, you had a good quality blade, since you could cut all sides without snapping the blade even once. ..
another pro-note. look from the outside..
you will see bubbles easier from the outside.
having extra person on the outside pointing at the bubble and you squeeging it out from the inside makes things allot easier..
as for the soap in the wather.. just use normal dish soap lol ;) couple of drops.. not to much. 1 spoon vs 1 liter is plenty. ;)
no idea what that 3rd squeegie is supposed to do?? (i doo this as a living.. just saying)...
The haldlebar squegiee, and somethign to align your cuts with is enaugh.
keep on givin good content ;)

Nice video Bill, you make it look very easy, thanks for sharing.
I did all you say but I always end up with dust specs and fibres behind the film which looks bad, any tips to prevent this?
I have even tried doing it with my clothes removed in case fibres came from my clothes but they still appear!
I then tried spraying the air around the window when applying to prevent dust particles, but it didn't make much difference.
I think that when the clear film is removed it creates static electricity which is a magnet for air-borne particles.
I have been using the mirror effect film which shows-up all these imperfections, spoiling the finished look.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

The reason is that you aren't supposed use automotive film on houses for starters. Domestic house film has a dry adhesive which allows you to apply the film with a reverse roll technique without having to wet the film, only the glass. On laminated glass you can cause thermal cracking & thousands of dollars in by using the incorrect film.
Didn't you notice he did not give you an outside close up as it would have had the same dust and fibres! It's easy to say it's easy to tint, but there is a damn lot more to it than people think. You are 100% correct about the static when peeling the backing sheet. When peeling the film for cars you use the car to peel off the backing sheet & because it is wet on the film side, plus you peel vertically & can wet the film as you peel, removing the static
