This is the first video of I’ve seen of yours but I’d love for you to make a “how I use my canon 5DC (for photog rookies” kind of video. There’s already one out that I’ve seen but I’d like more perspective on it. Compare it to how other cameras out today contrast. Show more photos. Show us the process of how you set it up and more of what gear you use and what gear is best/not good to use with this. Like “these tripods won’t fit this camera.” Little things like that. I just bought a 5DC and have no photog experience. Would love to get your perspective in a video.

@Gerety, I've had a 5D, 5D II, 5D III and now a 5D IV. Looking at my Lightroom catalog, the body that has the most dramatic, emotional images are from my 5D classic.

Everyone recommends using 5d's with cheap lenses and it makes sense since it is so cheap but man, pear it down with some L glass and you will see magic unfold under your eyes. Great video, maybe show edited vs raw photos so ppl can see what they are getting. Keep shooting and best of luck!

Couldn't agree more! I find that the biggest selling point of these cameras is the price for what you get.. which is exactly how I feel about the nifty fifty being so cheap yet a great little lens. So pairing them together for

So glad people are discovering the beauty that the 5d produces. I got mine from an old friend a few years back and love it. I think you get even better film quality images when you pair the camera with old glass. I'm using Olympus OM lenses on the camera and the images are gorgeous.

I bought the 5D shortly after it first came out, so I didn't get the good price deal. But in those years since I've assembled a lot of great Canon glass to go with it. When my professional photographer friend (a Nikon-type) visits, he pixel peeps a couple of brooding Scottish landscapes I have on my wall and always remarks that there is a look the 5D has that he cannot replicate, especially in the detail of the shadows. I've never regretted the 5D classic.

I bought a 5D Mark II back in March but I really wish I had bought the 5D Classic. I'm not giving up any of my camera bodies (I"ve also got a Rebel Xs and a 7D.), but as soon as I've got room in my budget I'm getting a 5D Classic. The only other camera I'm interested in beyond those is the 6D and I doubt if I'll ever buy another one.

I've been using my 5D classic for a long while now. I picked it up really cheap about 10 years ago. It definitely is fun to use and I'm really surprised about some of the shots I'm able to get. My biggest issue was the CF card but now that I know about the converter I'm going to be having so much more fun. Thanks for convincing me not to sell my camera!

I don't think Canon 5D Classic is a camera for beginners or low-budget photographers!
Rather, it's a camera for those who have extensively used 5DII, 5DIII and 5DIV. Then they discovered this diamond "Digital Film camera" and was stunned by the subtle film-look images.

    • @GeretyPhoto
      @GeretyPhoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว

If it's an important event or the camera you're using is your main body - then 100% get an actual CF card. I've been using my Cf-sd card reader for a couple years now with no problems but only shoot personal things with it so if it was to fail, it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

I just bought one of these because I wanted a lower priced full frame camera so I could use my Lensbaby lenses collection more effectively. My other cameras are cropped sensor. The Lensbaby effects work better with full frame. Unfortunately the first day I took it out to shoot photos the mirror fell out of it's housing. Just be aware the earlier release of this camera has this issue. Canon offered to fix it for free back in the day, but apparently a lot of owners didn't send them in for the free fix. I read that Canon fixed the issue when they manufactured more. Unfortunately I had to return it to B&H for repair. They offer me a credit towards another toward the gear of my choice because that camera is no longer supported.

My 5D Classic still produces some stunning results, mine is paired with the pancake 40mm 2.8 which makes an awesome combo, the files look more "beefier" than those from my Fuji XT3, and I would say pretty on par with the look of my Leica M8 and M9P images. 1:54 I gotta push back a little bit here: you don't want to take your nice camera out because you're afraid of bumping it against something?
My full frame camera gets way more use and abuse than any other camera I own, because it's built for it. I'll take it out in a snowstorm, shoot on a windy beach, or go exploring caves and escarpments. Take the proper precautions, of course, but don't leave your camera on a shelf just because it's nice :)!
Enjoyed the video overall, though, I definitely find the 5D C weirdly alluring. I think it'll be a timeless classic for many years to come.
    Happy shooting!

Completely get it! I feel sometimes it gives me piece of mind walking around with a “cheaper” set up that still takes killer photos then walking around with my $5k+ gear which is not necessary in every situation to bring. I use my main cameras just as much but definitely prefer using my 5D setup when I’m out in a new place just casually exploring :)
Thanks for the comment and happy shooting!

Loved my MK1 5D. It was my first DSLR. I used it for years and even though it was very old I got great shots on it. Traveled the world with it and it's true, they're built like tanks. I'd still recommend it today for somebody looking to get a cheap full-frame camera. Sadly the sensor in mine got damaged and I had to retire it. I did briefly get a Mark II to use on a trip. It was quite a step up from the original and that's also a great choice as they're not very expensive these days. Wouldn't recommend it for video in 2022 though.

Two things I have to live with is few AF-points (at least 19 like in 70D would be fine) and most of all - the lack of Auto ISO. The latter really sucks. Everything else is good. Ergonomics is fantastic. And I sure don't have to speak of image quality. It's all about it. *P.S.* Be aware of mirrors falling off, though! Learn everything you need about it from *Richard Barley* channel, he's got tons of videos on 5D. I already had to get my mirror fixed. Hope it never falls off again. Cheers!

I agree. I am looking at 5d output online and they look like film. I don’t see that with the newer 5d models. I am seriously looking to buy a used 5d. With the money I save I can buy a few full frame lenses. I also compared the 5d output to the mirrorless r6 and r5 and I think the 5d output looks better. Sharper and more contrasty with a film like look.

Came onto photography with digital on a Canon rebel Xs. Then went to film because the pro grade cameras are more reasonably priced. Got into the nikon system, and started adapting my nikon glass onto my rebel. It only does photos, no video, and I'm used to film anyways. Looking at getting one of these just so I can have a full frame sensor, which I can get at a reasonable price.

What you state of using a dslr to learn photography is so true. I started with a d5000 and it taught me a lot. Now using an a7r3 is so simple.

Hey man, sick video! I just released my review of the Canon 5D a couple of days ago too! Also those little CF to SD adapters are so good, I was kinda annoyed I would have too use a whole different storage media but now I can just use my SD cards

After using several cameras and finally purchasing my Canon 5D I have not bought any more cameras. My only investment has been glasses. Its capacity and sharpness in photos and videos is incredible without counting the expansion that is achieved with the Magic Lantern application. Without a doubt, a super camera that can be obtained now in second hands at an affordable price.

Is this great for photography during travels? Will be used for very little portraiture, mainly landscape sceneries or street. It will be my second camera but not for the same purpose, my 60d for mild action, video and photos that need to be taken in weird positions(on the floor or smth) and 5d for everything else, at least thats what i plan to get the 5d for, will it be worth my price?
The deal im getting is about 250 usd and he kindly included a 128gb cf card which is a steal!

"I'd be more worried about the table" lmao
I agree, these DSLR's are made to work in damn near any condition and can take a beating. Thats the only thing that has stopped me from going mirrorless. Every time I've used it they just feel fragile. And that small layer of anxiety can break into getting my groove when I shoot.

I just got one from Adorama. I'm excited for the full frame, the better iso than my current camera (1st gen rebel lol). I have been doing photography for about fifteen years (instagram.com/leebeckut) and I never had a full frame. So stoked. Got this 5D for $75 from Adorama Used. 12mp is cool and yes the classic 5d grain is nifty if u do it right. Check my work out. I have used 40d's, t7i, rebel xt's, and now this. I also bought a new 50mm, my old one was 1st gen and crappy. Got a new one coming from Bestbuy. So stoked because I have a studio shoot with a few models in a week. yes!

I have an opportunity now to buy this camera in really good price from a girl I just met - rn I’m using canon eos 200D and was dreaming about full frame and I’m wondering if would this be a good choice? In two weeks I will shoot my first wedding and i’m so stressed out about the quality of photos from my 200d... Using canon EF 50mm 1.8 with my current camera so do you think it would be a good idea to switch on 5d?
    great video 🔥

Hi man ... have 5d2 and 5d3 along with some fuji stuff which im not 100 percent sure of (cant beat full frame imo) ... looking to add 5d1 as heard lots of good stories ... and tbh if you use a 5d and a 50 1.8 for street, for example, its not too bad with regard to size weight - and also with full frame you get much better bokeh with regard to aperture being true and not compromised as with apsc sensors .. i've now subscribed after seeing your picture of VW Vanagon which i own here in the UK ... Nice vid and keep up good work ..
