    ‘That limitation makes the photography exciting’. This is deep for me. Im chasing more and more gear to find happiness in photography and in this point of my photography journey after lot of money goes away for changing camera, lens, switching system... I say, no it’s exactly opposite to approach happiness in photography, just like what you say. Limitation is key one of my gate to be gratitude in photography. Love your content.

      Thank you! It took a little bit of time for me to come to that conclusion as well. For the longest time I stopped taking photos or videos because I felt like my "stuff" could never match up to everyone else's so that meant my art would never match up either. I stopped taking photos/making videos for a little while because of it too, but luckily my love for it never went away and I came back to it.

      I got here from this video: th-cam.com/video/AxGh6UKqGus/w-d-xo.html
      At around the 18:00 mark, he said something in congruent to what you said. He said "When you have an expensive camera you expect great results, of course, thats why you paid much money. But when you pay little money and get great results, its something very very interesting you get a really great feeling"
      I think its the challenge, that even with the limitations of the camera, you still get great results, at a low price, is what makes it exciting.

    Excellent video. I'm 74 years old and bought my 5D in 2006 while I was still flying for the airlines and it went everywhere with me. I loved it then, but as phone cameras got more sophisticated and certainly more convenient and I got more lazy, my poor 5D sat in the closet for about 12 years. I just recently got the bug again. I broke it out of jail, bought some new batteries and a new button battery for the date/time and am back shooting with it. I still have the Canon SpeedLite 420EX flash I bought with it and several L lenses that are phenomenal.

It is so simplistic compared to modern digital cameras but for me, that is part of the appeal. The camera with prime lenses like the 50mm and 85mm is fantastic. Great vid! I picked up a 5d classic a few weeks ago, and was also previously using a 600d (t3i). My only lens that i had that would fit was the f1.8 50mm, but i don't think i'll need another lens with how versatile the 50mm is. Despite having less megapixels than the 600d, the images from the 5d looked far richer and less digital, which I love. I got one of the earlier models with the low res display which means i have to rely more on my own intuition when it comes to exposure and focusing, but i also love that because it means i spend more time taking the right photo instead of taking heaps and deleting most of them. Keep up the great work :)

    Hi Khanh, finally I got a 5D Classic yesterday after a long search. It was worth the wait as it's in excellent condition. The main reasons I bought it for are eye-soothing colors and the unique film look. Took some test shots in RAW and processed in DPP. Those justified my choice. Yeah, the shutter sound is sweet.

    I don't have a 5D, but I do have a 5DMKII which I purchased new shortly after it was released in 2008. I'm a professional photographer and have shot many weddings, portraits, graduating seniors, etc., with it. It's slightly more advanced than the original 5D, it has 21MP and the ISO ranges from 100-6400, expandable to 50 to 25,600. Canon digital cameras from their first, the EOS 10D, have been known for their color rendition--which to this day is not matched by any other camera manufacturer. You can't really see the difference on Instagram, or the internet, but you can definitely tell the difference when you post process and print your images. I still have the 5DMKII and shoot with it on occasion, even though I have several newer pro DSLR's and the R and R6. I'm glad you're enjoying your camera; you did a good job of explaining why you enjoy the 5D. I hope you're capturing some awesome images with the 5D.

    My favorite camera, after being a Mark 4 owner I decided to go with it as my second body I would just drag around.. Few months later I bought a second one and thinking to sell my mk 4. The colors are amazing, especially for portraiture, the camera is so easy to use. I love this minimalistic approach it gives you. You only have a few color profiles and one menu. The monochrome is also really really good and contrasty sooc. I think the reason why the colors look so nice is that back in 2005 they were trying to compete with film photographers, they were trying to convince people over to digital so they had to make something that looked as good as film - hence base the emulsion on film stocks (probably Kodak) while it still being digital. And they made it!

    Yes! I actually like 5D so much I have two of them! :D I used them for shooting a wedding last summer - no problems whatsoever despite age, and the client was really happy with the results :) I think if you can't make great pictures with 5D Classic, no camera is going to help you with that ;) But for me I love how simple these cameras are: no extra (useless) features or even video. Just great working tools for any photographic task you might throw at them. Except maybe pro sports haha.
    I have to disagree though on one thing - you mentioned EF lenses being expensive. In reality (used) EF lenses are among the cheapest you can find and there's lots of them available! So definitely not expensive. I have the Canon EF 70-210mm f4, which everyone seems to hate, but I just love it. Super sharp and can be had for pennies! I actually got mine for free with a another camera! But like you, I use the 50mm 1.8 for almost anything: it's just that good and the focal length is so useful.
    Thanks for the nice video, let's stay connected us 5D lovers! :D

    • @akaKhanh
      @akaKhanh  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a fair disagreement! Coming from the T3i, I could always get EF-S lenses on the "cheaper" side (only photographers could call a $250 lens cheap haha) compared to those nice red ring lenses :)

The melted background was so yummy and the subject popped out like 3D which I never achieve in my point and shoot and smartphone. I paired it with 50mm 1.8 STM like yours. I think the words you might be looking for when referring to the images is "creamy" and "film-like'. That is how it was explained to me which was one of the reasons I picked mine up. It's affordable, it makes you work for your images and it never disappoints. I've had the latest and greatest right up to the 5D4 and a 1DX, both of which I sold because they were too much camera for what I shoot. Mine is also paired with the Canon 50mm STM and it's like they were made for each other. This is an awesome video and you rock the 5D!!!! Great job!

    I learned photography in high school, used medium format and 35mm, gave them up reluctantly. The 5D classic gives me film-like images and I love it. I'm 57 and your observations are spot on; you sound like older photographers who went from analog to digital. Keep up the good work.

      @akaKhanh  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much! That's so awesome that you learned photography on medium format AND 35mm! I admire every single photographer who's able to shoot film. I've tried it myself and realized very quickly that you really have to know your stuff. Not having a display to peep at and set exposure from was a huge learning curve!

    Loved your video. Thanks so much for sharing. I've never owned a 5D but I did get a great buy on a 5D MKII and absolutely love it. These things are built like tanks. I make my prints at home on a Canon professional printer. I do mostly landscapes, and the prints are amazing, they almost look like they're printed on fine art paper even though they're not. The MKII prints beautifully up to 17x22 with absolutely no loss of details. I highly recommend either camera to anyone who just want's to make stunning images.

    • @akaKhanh
      @akaKhanh  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for taking the time to watch my video! I really appreciate it. I'm hoping some time in the future I'll be able to snag the 5D MKII as well :) If the 5D revolutionized digital photography, the 5D MKII absolutely revolutionized digital video. How do you like printing at home on your professional Canon printer vs using a dedicated printing service? I've been thinking about getting a printer myself, but I'm not sure about the cost efficiency...

    • @dave8561
      @dave8561 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@akaKhanh The key to efficiency printing at home is to print a lot. several times a week at least. And the bigger the print the better. I shoot mostly landscapes and often make large prints, so this helps. I also live 1/2 hour drive from any store that does prints. so it helps when I want to see my results right away. If you would decide to try home printing I would recommend buying the cheapest photo printer you can find that has at least 4 individual color ink tanks. So if it's not for you, you haven't wasted much money. That being said, the higher end 13" and wider Canon photo printers print quality is amazing.

    Girl I am totally with you when it comes to the mirror slap, it makes taking photos feel "legit" somewhat. I started with a mirrorless (m100) and now find myself enjoying old Canon DSLRs more because of the ergonomics and the shutter sound. I also agree with the color science on older Canon cameras, when paired with vintage lenses they give off a really authentic looking "filmic" vibe.

    Thanks for the great video. It's nice to see younger photographers discovering this magical camera! I have a 5D classic and also a Sony A7 III, but I use the 5D more. My favorite lens for the 5D is the 40 mm 2.8 "pancake" lens. It is super sharp and it's the perfect lens for street photography and outdoor events. I have a 50 MM 1.8, but I hardly ever use it since I got the 40 mm. I also use the 5D exclusively for all my portrait work, using a 80-200 F4 L IS.

    • @akaKhanh
      @akaKhanh  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for the kind words! I've had the 40mm 2.8 at the top of my list for so long and you just made such a good case for it haha Might have to pull the trigger on it now XD Do you find the f/4 limiting? I always compare 70-200 f/2.8 and f/4 and wonder if the weight & price difference is justified.

    • @pcc678
      @pcc678 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@akaKhanh Hello Khanh - The 70-200 F4 L IS lens is the only lens I use for portraits. I also use it for outdoor shots where I need to zoom in. I don't find it limiting. I have done indoor portraits with it where my subject is lit only by light coming in from a window with great results. I never felt I needed a 2.8. I borrowed one from a friend for a while, but I felt it was too big and heavy, and I didn't get any shots that I couldn't have gotten with my F4. For the price, you really can't beat the 70-200 F4 L.

    • @akaKhanh
      @akaKhanh  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pcc678 Hi Paul, thanks for the update! I was looking at the 70-200 F4 L actually. Another perk is the weight! I've heard that the F4 version is night and day lighter than the F2.8 so also good for our backs!
