In the event of a headstock break for a valuable guitar I think there’s one additional piece of recommendation I would add. Yes, a headstock break will hurt resale value significantly. However, if you want to maximize resale value, not only do you need to take it to a professional for the quality of work, you need to take it to a professional to reassure a prospective buyer that the work was done correctly. Even if you do a great DIY job, a perspective buyer has nothing to go on to trust your work. Get a professional do the work. Save the receipts. Document everything as best you can to show a prospective buyer that the work was done by a professional so that they can feel better about it.

I've done a dozen or so headstock repairs. I'm not a luthier but I do custom Woodworking with exotic woods so I'm more familiar with the process than some. That being said , I would say that if you own an expensive guitar that breaks , by all means have a pro do it. But if you can do a competent diy repair then buy a broken one on the cheap and do the repair yourself and enjoy. I just finished repairing an epiphone 59 outfit in lemon burst. Brand new but headstock cracked in shipping. Paid $299 , did the repair and saved a ton off of a guitar I planned on buying anyway.

I just bought an old Morris TF-801 with a very similar broken headstock. I got the guitar for $200 as a junker. I am no luthier or even repairman, but I got that headstock glued up and put a couple of supporting dowls in, and good as new. Mind you, it ain't very pretty!

Impressive, he was also able to find a replacement "Elite"-Decal. When I saw him sanding away the old one I thought this is really gonna hurt the value of this guitar (for stupid reasons).

Why doesn't Gibson have maple necks only on the tributes this should be stock

I fully agree, I got a SG tribute with the maple neck and it's so much more stable. In addition it's a brighter sound. Great combination with the mahogany body.

Not in many cases is it stronger than before if you're using a good wood glue and proper techniques every repair is stronger than it was originally. Repairs are usually so well that it should be impossible to break it in the same place twice

This is why I have steel necks installed on my Gibson guitars. JK, I don't own any Gibson's. Oddly enough my favorite guitar is my Aria Pro II TA-30 birch semi-hollow body.

I use wood glue and press the air pockets out and they string up and sound nice the next day or so. Use to build model airplane and rockets, this is easier.

The voodoo lp was 1st lp that I played and loved. I still want a voodoo, not that I need it.

Some things require the skill and experience of a professional. Sure, most of us could slap some glue and clamps on it, but should we?

I have nightmares about this. No lie. I finally was able to afford a Gibson LP and for the last 2 1/2 years I've had a nightmare of it breaking in a variety of ways at least once a week. Ill never sell it so its not a value thing but it's a horrible thought.

Be an intelligent adult with your guitar. Don't fall for the "omg, Gibson headstocks will snap like twigs if you look at them wrong" that people who've never owned a guitar with that kinda headstock angle spew online.
I own several LP type guitars, a couple from Gibson and I'm a gigging musician that plays them regularly with my band and I've never had any headstock breaks. Again, be. An. Intelligent. Adult.
Don't leave your guitars hanging on an unsupported wall that doesn't have any cradle that could stop them from falling side to side. Don't leave your guitar in the way for your drunk bandmates to trip on after a show. That goes for any guitar, not just a Gibson or Les Paul

@@MHChang2014 good tips. I mean I am careful but it is the hype you mentioned and seeing videos like this that causes me to have those horrific dreams. Unfortunately at the moment I have a young Mastiff puppy who likes to chew on everything. So currently it is hanging on a Hercules wall hanger but you can bet that I make double sure that it's locked in place before I let go of it. Thank you for replying

Guitars are objects that are traded by people with money and a repair lessens the value as an instrument to trade for money for most buyers. And most buyers are not good players or musicians of any sort.
