Thank you for this video, I have one huge yucca, and have been nervous, but after everything I have seen, seem pretty easy! I've had it for about 12 years, and I always just went a pot bigger when needed, thank you so much!
Thank you lord I almost broke into tears because I broke my plant from a slight pull moving it around in my bedroom because it was growing so tall into my blinds so thankful to come across this video. Very nice video!! ☺️
Yukkas are the easiest plants to propagate 100% successfully in a warm climate. I dip the cuttings in hormone rooting powder just to make sure. They grow to the size of a tree outside eventually and are quite impressive.
@peter seddon and, @Melanie Cape Town ... I am inferring that you Melanie, live in Southern Africa? To you both: Respectfully, may I ask (just approximately) where each of you live? What are your winter seasons like, such that you're able to grow yuccas outside, year-long, and to "tree-like" proportions? :) Lastly, my curiosity is asking what dimensions you've obtained with your outdoor yuccas? That is to ask: 1. How thick can the diameter of the trunks get? And, 2. How tall have they gotten? ...just approximately, of course. Thank you so very kindly, congratulations, and enjoy! It's all quite exciting! Sincerely, ~ Justin 😁🪴🌴
The absolute best video I have found on the various way to propagate a yucca, well done and thank you so much. I have a beautiful yucca that I want to propagate for gifting and trading so I can share the joy of living with a yucca. Thanks again!
Propergated 7 Yucca plants today from the instructions on this video. I pray that they grow and don't just rot. EDIT: After 3 weeks they are still alive and green. Although I haven't checked the roots as I don't want to disturb any growth, they look like they are doing fine.
@Gerardo Cason I wish you the best of luck. Mine all grew and are looking fantastic. Grabbing some purple ones to grow now. Simpliest things ever to grow.
I have some big yucca's and wanted to transplant them. And watchinging this vid i remembered that you could buy years ago Yucca stems,2-3 inches long, waxed both ends and plant then and hey ho a Yucca plant would grow! Wicked! They are nearly indestructible! Mine have inch stems so gonna give it a go!! Cool vid Thanks!!!!
May I ask what you mean? "Both ends are waxed?" Are you saying that you cut the trunk in half... This gives you two halves, of course. 1. Half of a trunk, with roots, but no leaves, and you wax the top (where the leaves WERE). You plant this, and new growth appears? Where? 2. The other half of the trunk has leaves, but no roots. You wax the bottom of this piece, where the roots WERE. Then plant the waxed bottom, and new growth occurs? Where is the growth? Do roots grow through the wax?
@@MMAFightMagazine 5.00 your question is answered. Wax is to stop plant from losing its moisture. Also for stalks with both ends waxed, put 1 waxed end in soil, water and it will root and as in 5.00 new growth will sprout out of the side.
@@djyul OH okay, thank you. I have a half dozen, and can't seem to get any new growth, so I've been hesitant about cutting off the last off-shoot from a given plant. But... I guess the plant won't produce new shoots unless all others have been removed, is that correct? Again, thank you! :)
@@MMAFightMagazine Patience dude! Yucca's produce pups, like a tuba/potato. I transplanted 6 of these. First took about 10 weeks to start new growth. Do not over water!!!
@@djyul Don't over water? Good to know. In the video, he seems to be soaking his plants. I know! Patience is tough! Lol. I've taken them off successfully for propagation, but they don't seem to want to grow much! I know. Patience. :) Thank you for the input and advice, sir. May I ask what you meant by them producing pups like a tuba/potato?
This video was absolutely perfect in its depiction of how to grow yuccas keep them happy and how to propagate them. I live in Southern Florida where yucca plants are almost a weed and I have found that the easiest way to propagate them is to Simply cut off a branch about two feet from the bottom take that branch and shove it in the ground next to it and where you cut the original Yucca will send out new shoots and where you stuck the one in the ground will send up new yuccas as well. Do not overwater them.
It's been about 8 weeks now since I did this and they are still going strong. So, I guessed that they are still alive and rerooted? And it was so easy. Happy. Happy. Happy. I'm going to do the one with the wax. At Bunnings they are $35 or $40 for a tiny one!!!
Thank you for showing how to save my yucca! I saved one 12 years ago from a dumpster and I grew it from just one leaf that rooted in a glass of water. Now it's one stem and over 4 feet tall, which is too big for me. Now I know how to cut it back and grow more little ones on the main stem AND save the top leaves!
Wow! Congratulations!!! To be clear... You found just a single leaf that had no stem? That single leaf produced roots when put into water, and -when eventually planted into soil- became a "full" plant with a stem etc? That's amazing! Has anyone else had similar successes? I'm not implying that I doubt anything, by any means! 😊 I only ask because I've made MANY attempts at propagation by removing leaves and placing them into various water sources, and I personally (and frustratingly) have never seen any indication of root formation. Following various durations (up to six months) of time in the water, I plant them into soil. After similar lengths of time in the soil, the leaves become hard, and the edges of the leaf curl inwards upon itself - similar to what a cinnamon stick looks like. Upon removal, I have never seen even a hint of root growth. I can't help but infer that I MUST be doing something wrong - if others are indeed succeeding. Thank you kindly for any -and all- advice and thoughts! Very sincerely, Justin.

Hey there. I just bought a house with tons of these yucca plants. I saw one video where he pulled off each leaf on base of plant and I really liked how it looked Vs just trimming it as you have which is also pretty cool. Mine are all trimmed like yours. So I worked my way up leaving many layers of cut leaves so it literally looks like a pineapple. My question is is it even ok to be doing that? The bark looks very fragile like I’ve ripped off the cambian layer. I thought the tree would be ok and heal itself if it needed to, but before I do this to all my yucca plants I thought I should ask an expert if this was wise. Tysm for any response. Love your channel! Btw this experimental yucca I’ve just done is about 2 1/2’ tall including the leaves and I ripped off the many layers of dead leaves that were once trimmed about 2” from bark and I ripped off the leaves completely from ground to about just over a foot up.
Too much water will cause yellowing, and drooping leaves, the structure of the leaves is strong enough to have even giant/long leaves perfectly straight (as much as they can be) Yuccas prefer less water than average watering.
Hello, I see that you have experience in growing Jukka. Mine is almost 2m, can it be cut in the middle of the trunk and put in a new pot for it to take root?
