Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing in 2013 at Wacken Open Air festival, in front of a 82k+ audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
First - a message for Matt: this is really good parenting! You know something this genre as I heard, and showing your daughter the beauty of Nightwish music is a good start.
Now, for Lexi: since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

That's what I've been hearing. That or Romanticide. I hear that Storytime is right up her alley since she's really into Disney type musical scores. Not saying it sounds like that or anything, as I haven't heard it. It was just a description someone gave to me. We'll be looking into that one for sure! :)

Always do live performances of Nightwish, it adds a lot. Wacken 2013 was a high point of Nightwish, every single song is good. Maybe try Story Time or Romantacide of that concert.

I wouldn't call it a high point...Maybe a false peak on the mountain they continue to climb as personally they have gotten better and better with time. It was however a very well recorded festival performance with a great set list!

The singer's name is Floor Jansen. Welcome to Floor Jansen, the 6' Valkyrie Goddess of Metal. You've heard about 40% of what she can do. I've heard her sing rock, metal, classical aria, country, lullaby, smooth jazz, pop and musical. I've heard her sing in English, Dutch, German, Finnish, Spanish, Italian and Latin. I've heard her do deathgrowls and hold a D6 for 8 seconds. And I've heard her do all those things live on stage. A really cool reaction guys. We've seen Nightwish live four times. 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2018. They never disappoint. Ghost Love Score is a staple in all their live performances. We've been Nightwish fans since 1997, but Floor is the only Nightwish singer we've seen live. We were suppose to see Annette Olzon on vocals, in 2012, but she got the flu and was very pregnant. Elize & Alissa from Kamelot, took her place, and made the show possible.

Awesome stuff! I'd heard their name off and on, and they dropped a lot of tracks on Rock Band back in the late 2000s, but never thought it was going to be my thing. I was wrong. This song still gives me goosebumps every time, and I know what's coming! Storytime sealed it for me. I have to hear more, and more will be coming. This was the 1st Nightwish performance I really fell for though as a Finn I've known the band from the Tarja era. Tarja was the original female lead vocalist of Nightwish 1996-2005. Then came Anette, and the current female lead vocalist Floor from 2012 on.
I thought Nightwish can't possibly have another song as good as "Ghost Love Score", but then I found "EVER DREAM" Wacken 2013, and was blown away by Marko the bassist on vocals together with Floor. They complement each other amazingly. That's why I suggest you react to that song next.

Yeah, I can clearly see the influence pouring out of him. He clearly loves movie scores, but mixes it with rocking guitars and amazing drum work. "Rammstien" - an 'industrial metal' band out of Germany, very unique, do live videos as they aggressively block official videos. Recommend "Mein Tell" as a starting point - They do probably the best stage show of any band I have ever seen.

The other huge Symphonic Metal Band Epica had Floor guest on their song Sancta Terra th-cam.com/video/cx22Yuj2nzg/w-d-xo.html also Epica has their own Orchestra and backing choir in the song. they use Orchestra and Choirs quite a bit and also performers.

I'm trying to imagine if the internet had been around when I was about your daughter's age, and my dad dragged me in to do a reaction video to Rogers and Hammerstein, or the Glenn Miller Band, or Nana Mouskouri. Or if I had dragged dad in to do a reaction to Sgt Pepper, or anything by The Stones or Black Sabbath. I think we'd both have been polite, but eager to get back to our respective musical comfort zones. So - why is this not such a thing these days? Or maybe it was just my family, lol.

Well, to be honest, I'm an audiophile, big time. Music just does something to me, and it does something to her too. When I noticed she was starting to listen to the songs in my car independently by herself, I thought this was our way of bonding and having a thing to call our own. It just clicked, and so, here we are, broadcasting it to whoever sees fit to want to participate in her journey! :)

I couldn't hear anything, but this recording was strange. For some reason our voices got slowed down in this and we sound strange. I didn't do anything to the settings on this, so I'm unsure how it got like that. We're going to have to figure that one out before the next one.
