Well after Halloween Ends I put this movie Higher on my list and I think some of us owe Rob Zombie an apology. This movie is good enough and the over the top dialogue makes me laugh 😂
Back in the day, it took me 10 minutes to realize this wasn't "my" Halloween. I don't know if it's just the fact they tried to reveal too much of Michael's backstory, or maybe the profanity, but I've never enjoyed watching this version. Also, I admire Malcolm MacDowell, but "my" Loomis will always be Donald Pleasance. Anyway, great video, guys!
Loomis, Laurie, Annie & Brackett are all solid in this film and the actors and actresses portraying the characters. I would of loved to have seen these four in a different style & tone Halloween movie. The casting of Malcom McDowell is brilliant for Loomis & Brad Diouf as Brackett. I think having Danielle Harris back was a missed opportunity and they could of tied her in as Jamie Lloyd or gone in a different direction story wise and even have her play Laurie Strode, which would of been fantastic. Imagine her from being young Jamie Lloyd being protected in Halloween 4 by Rachel too being a older version of Laurie Strode and the protector of Tommy & Lyndsay in a rebooted Halloween movie. That would be the film I think we all would like to see.
I'm not a Halloween purist by any means, and I think if you take out the "prequel" Myers stuff, this film is a really good re-imagining. Unfortunately, like many others, H2 really soured me and I honestly never felt the need to revisit it. That being said, I think the hatred for H2 unfairly impacts the OG Zombie Halloween, which is absolutely fine and fun.
My best moment for this one is when Lindsey is watching TV, and Michael is standing behind her. That was genuinely creepy when I saw it for the first time! As a side note, I really wish the Theatrical Cut was made more readily available. I do not care for the Director's Cut at all
@@TSLMoviePodcast Oh sick! That's how I first saw the movie. Like 2AM on a January morning or something. I really liked that version, and I think it's the only version that has an extended sequence of Mason Strode's death, where Michael is walking up the sidewalk to him? Can't wait for that video!
Great show as always! I liked that they took this one seriously, after the debacle of HR it was great to see a more darker Halloween movie. The problem for me is it's just too Rob Zombie. Everything is overblown. He's a great director, terrible writer.
Yeah it's true about the set locations and what it was set but if you listen to the stripper music she was dancing too was that Love hurts there was a lot of 70s themes to it and then Lori got older she got older she was in the 2000s but then they were playing the animals in the hospital in h2 so it was kind of confusing
Though I do believe in the opinion of "the less you know about Myers the better" type thing, but imo the first RZ Halloween is not that bad even though it does the exact opposite. If you seen the screener (which I believe is the even better cut than what was released in the theater) before Zombie had to make many changes...It was said that he had a terrible time with being interfered with by "Hollywood looking over his shoulder" through the whole process..They made him change many things last minute and even major parts included the whole climax / ending. I remember seeing an interview with R.Zombie speaking on this.
Hey TBone, we have recorded an episode going deeper into this movie, what went wrong, what we would have done and the various different version, script, work print, director's cut etc. Dropping soon. Thanks for watching
Michael's school headmaster always looked strange to me, like he's a younger actor with really bad make up or whatever they put on his face to make him look older, he's got so many lines on his face and he can barely open his mouth when he talks.
Excellent job on Rob Zombie's Halloween. I am mixed on this movie. For me, too much backstory on young Michael and his family. Even though Tyler Mane did a good job with Michael, I just thought he was to large of a man, and maybe to brutal. I also didn't like the direction Zombie took with the girls. I have the director's cut of both Zombie Halloween movies. Still a tolerable movie.
Undeniably Rob Zombie was able to make his Halloween remake movie extremely different. An obvious flaw for the Halloween remake is it’s unbelievable that all characters are bastards to Michael Myers except for his mother, Doctor Loomis, and Ismael Cruz. This movie was intentionally made for us to root for Michael Myers because he’s killing unlikable characters which doesn’t work because we’re not supposed to be rooting for the Villain in a Horror movie. Also Michael Myers isn’t scary at all because no mystery why he is a evil character.
@@rosaliazurita611 Also it’s not scary at all when we know Michael Myers is going to kill characters which removes all suspense along with knowing why exactly Michael Myers is an evil character. This is a serious Horror movie that fails greatly to be scary.
Don’t hate Halloween 2007. Never cared for the handling of Michael myers and loomis. I felt meh after watching it the first time. My favourite moment in the the film is Michael attacking the strode house and killing the foster parents. Always appreciate seeing Danielle back in a Halloween cameo personally. Is this my worst Halloween film no is RZ Halloween for not. I have so much hate for resurrection not even the devil could take it. Only like two scenes in RZ Halloween 2 and that’s Laurie holding Annie when she’s dying and Brad’s break down scene over Annie (which is better portrayed in the directors cut) thought the acting was outstanding. Other than that burn the rest. Halloween 1978 can never surpassed not can it be mimicked. There are some amazing Halloween sequels just Rob Zombie did not make them. Your right Ronnie is so over the top it’s painful. As you guys the 4 making of us the best thing about the movie. Can’t wait for the next one gents. Loving the channel still catching up slowly but loving having the time to do so. Thanks for sharing as always.
I'm pretty sure if someone mentioned the word "subtlety" to Rob Zombie he'd think they were speaking another language. The guy just doesn't get it at all. I think the only real bright spot for Zombie's Halloween and even Halloween II is Brad Douriff as Brackett. Everyone else just aren't very good. Even Malcom McDowell as Loomis I've never quite understood the praise he gets. I've always found his performance to be a bit "meh" even in the first movie. He just doesn't have that presence and gravitas Donald Pleasence had. Not that it's a competition necessarily, but he just feels like a bargain basement Loomis and I think there could have been better choices out there that would have brought a bit more to the role. Although, since the whole movie is basically a bargain basement Halloween it may not necessarily be his fault.
I hate to defend RZH2… especially because I despise it. However, two major problems led to the movie being much more of a shitshow than it needed to be: firstly, there was Harvey Weinstein cutting shooting days and budget constantly (to the point that they had lost about half of their production days/budget by the end). On top of this, some dumbass at the airport x-rayed the first few weeks of filming, which led to the film being destroyed. Rob Zombie then had to rush, with already limited time and money, to reshoot all of the stuff that was lost. Honestly, it’s a miracle that it was even able to be finished at all.
I can pick out a few moments from this movie that I really liked, but it only adds up to like 5% of the film. Young Michael looking out the window before he kills his stepdad. Him screaming at his mother when she removes his mask after killing the nurse. And him standing behind Lindsey watching the movie. That's it. The dialogue between Laurie and her friends makes me cringe and want to leave the room. Michael is way too big and humanized.
My worst kill is Ronnie white. And best line from larurie oh mommy mr. Nickels rub me wrong way. And she grab a bagel put her finger in the hole of bagel that favorite best line with a bagel prop. And my worst kill is Debbie Meyers killing herself. That hurt me the most cause because I loved her so much and see looking back on that video and see looked at it all the memories that she had with her family and then when she did that to me was really heartfelt but there for me I think that is my best and most kill of Halloween 2007
@@TSLMoviePodcast true. So looking again, the script said 1978 & 1995. But I assume they just decided to leave the years out so they could use some more modern items. But if look at Loomis' cell phone he uses an old 90's Motorola phone. Lynda uses a old Nokia phone but that might be more modern. But if you pay attention to the small details its there. Like the televisions stil being boxes, Some of the cars being from the 90's, old answering machines, etc. But again they obviously decided to take the years out. Just thought that was interesting.
I always found Rob Zombie's Halloween films too extreme. Too much emotional damage, too much explanation, too much carnage, to be a re-invention of 1978's Halloween. It should have just been a stand-alone story of Michael Myers killing new people, completely unrelated to the original story. I didn't need to see any reason why Michael killed.
Also the movie is unbelievable because only 3 main characters are not bastards to Michael Myers. The movie was written to root for Michael Myers because he’s from a dysfunctional family, and the characters he kills are unlikable characters.
In a nutshell, the remake was merely okay. A tough watch sometimes because it's a bit grim. I look forward to the bashing that RZ's H2 is going to get. Lol. Personally, I didn't think it was THAT bad. It was different. And fans don't like different.
Very unbelievable that the adult Michael Myers is a tall brawny man because no shown reason for how a ordinary size kid was able to achieve an extreme body change.
@@TSLMoviePodcast with Loomis looking like he was stuck in the 60s i think a lot of people did back in the early 90s, i was only 7 back in 1992 and i live in the UK & i used to see adults dressed like 60s Loomis all the time
@@TSLMoviePodcast regarding the music i think films do that sometimes because the director likes an era and genre of music so he throws it in there hoping it relates to the film & it's tone, bit like Thor Love & Thunder with guns & roses being blasted out every 15/20 minutes
Good point. I guess you are right although we’ve had a few conflicting opinions. Given you are from the Uk I’m happy to settle with your opinion 😉 Hope you’re enjoying the content.

Although I respect Rob Zombies vision, it just could not recreate the scary boogie man atmosphere of the original. Part of the shock of 78’s opening is after finding it out that it’s a child that did the stabbing you are left with the mystery of why, and that set the tone for the whole movie.
And a kid who grew up in a normal family but was wrong from the beginning who just decided to kill his sister one night is a scarier idea than " His mother was a stripper, her boyfriend was an asshole, he got bullied, killed animals, started killing people and grew up to be a hobo imagining his dead mother and a horse."
It was a cool ideal at the time so it was some cool parts like him as a kid and how evil he was but the actress was horrible and she was good at some parts being traumatic and shit but she was horrible the boy from the first one that played Michael cuz he's not the same kid in the second he was good they give it a 5 out of 10 plus Malcolm McDowell you never even watch the original
The remake craze was in full gear so I knew a Halloween remake was around the corner. I enjoyed House of 1000 Corpses and Devil Rejects well enough but I couldn't help but think RZ was a bad fit for the Halloween franchise. Man, his original script was crazy bad. I ended up liking the workprint well enough, the theatrical not so much and no getting around the rape scene being way too garbage pail kids for the Halloween franchise. I did like the theatrical cut of RZ H2 better than I expected. At least better than the "we aren't really trying" M.O of the Blumhouse films. And the timeframe is current timeframe (2007-2009). In RZ H2 they have modern cell phones and televisions.
There’s a bit of confusion with the timeframe. Some people think it’s late 70’s and late 90’s, others like yourself feel it’s present day. Either way, it has no bearing on my thoughts on the movie 😉
it's one of my biggest gripes about RZ's Halloween movies. The dialogue is so crude and cliche trailer park trash and people with long hair and beards. I'm not saying everyone has to be clean-cut, but everyone (including the girls) were insufferable.
This was the first Halloween I got to see in theaters and it came out a few days after my 17th birthday. Those are the only positives I have. I hate just about everything in this movie with the exception of some of the actors. I genuinely consider this the worst Halloween movie. Even Resurrection is better for being laughably bad. I think Robert Cummings 2nd movie is just about as bad but is at least more interesting and has some interesting visuals.
Thanks for watching and chiming in Robert. I’m not sure it’s the worst Halloween movie but I’m in no way a fan. It has its moments, but it’s just too in your face for me. I could happily never watch it again
@@TSLMoviePodcast I've also not watched it since theaters barring a few minutes on cable hear or there. I can see that there was effort put into this movie and there are some nice shots/cinematography. This movie was made in such a way that it completely fails on ever level. For me this movie is not scary in the slightest. Every would be victim is given just enough screen time and dialogue to be an asshole. There's not a single character that feels like a real person. I find almost everyone including Laurie to be unlikable and far more than unlikable characters in other movies like Tina. There's also no suspense as you know where Michael is at all times. This movie also can't be enjoyed as a fun slasher movie. The violence is all "brutal" and "realistic", which would be fine if the movie was scary but it isn't at all. The kills aren't enjoyable in the way that a Friday the 13th movie normally is. Like this movie isn't shocking or offensive to me but I can't enjoy it the way I can other slasher movies. Also I just don't find the movie well written in any way. I feel both the need to give Michael an explanation and the white trash backstory to be extremely lame. The original works so well because he has no motive or explanation. As dumb as the thorn cult plot is at least it was creative. I feel anyone could have came up with the rough upbringing. It also makes Michael sympathetic. One thing I never hear brought up when people discuss this movie is how it feels like 2 halves of 2 different movies. The first half shows Michael's life leading up to his first kills then his time in the sanitarium. Again I hated everything about it but at least it was it's on thing and had a clear vision. Once he escapes its just a bunch of scenes from the original done way worse. This is a remake that both fails for being too different than the original and too similar. I suppose more effort and craft went into this than H5 or Resurrection but I don't care. This will always be the worst to me. I can at least laugh at those. Robert Cummings 2nd movie is at least "it's own thing" all the way through so I can put it slightly ahead of this. It's weird to me that a lot of people love this movie or say it's not that bad. I guess that's just movies for ya. It's all subjective. Who am I to talk though, I'm someone that loves Freddy vs Jason because I saw it in theaters when I was 12.
This film is like two films in one, the first part goes up all the way till Michael is back in Haddonfield and puts on his old mask then the rest is like a part 2. It's very beat for beat of the original with a few scenes changed and you see more of Michael & the brother/sister storyline just so they can say it's a remake and not a full on copy. I normally skip the beginning of this film because it's all trash and don't get me started on the rape scene, it was so unnecessary and not a Halloween movie in my opinion.
Have never watched all of it. Survived the embarrassing kitchen scene and got as far as the boy being bullied in the bathroom then switched it off. The film was just annoying and had no interest in watching it any further.
Ugly people doing ugly thing=-every Rob Zombie movie. Suspense took a backseat to shock and gore. If they're gonna hire someone just for having a marketable name, maybe next time they should try Jerry Dracula 😒
I am not a fan of either of Rob Zombie's Halloweens. However I did enjoy Malcolm McDowell and Brad Dourif. Tyler Mane was good as Michael Myers but he was just too big which took something from the character for me. Myers in 1978 blended into the scenery and that made him scary.
I'm low-key into the more brutal grindhouse feel of Zombies movies, but obviously the original is the GOAT
That’s cool.

Nicely put 👍🏼
My best moment for this one is when Lindsey is watching TV, and Michael is standing behind her. That was genuinely creepy when I saw it for the first time! As a side note, I really wish the Theatrical Cut was made more readily available. I do not care for the Director's Cut at all
I feel the work print is better. We have a video coming out about that soon
It’s recorded, we’re just waiting for the right moment to drop it.
Great show as always!
I liked that they took this one seriously, after the debacle of HR it was great to see a more darker Halloween movie. The problem for me is it's just too Rob Zombie. Everything is overblown. He's a great director, terrible writer.
Thanks Curt 👍🏼
Yeah it's true about the set locations and what it was set but if you listen to the stripper music she was dancing too was that Love hurts there was a lot of 70s themes to it and then Lori got older she got older she was in the 2000s but then they were playing the animals in the hospital in h2 so it was kind of confusing
It is confusing Paul. Thanks for contributing 🙏🏼
Our prayers have been answered!
😀🙏🏼
Not a big fan of this one, but big fan of most of Zombie's other movies
Ronnie White makes John Strode look like a saint.
Google says it starts 1990 with a 15 year jump (ending 2005)
Thanks Chelsea
It takes place in 1978 and 1995, but they don’t make a big deal of pointing that out in the movie.
Oh my lord it’s finally happening
Michael's school headmaster always looked strange to me, like he's a younger actor with really bad make up or whatever they put on his face to make him look older, he's got so many lines on his face and he can barely open his mouth when he talks.
22:02 It should have played when he killed the bully not on kid Michael running off in a huff after hearing he has to see a psychiatrist.
Yes. Tolerable is the right word 👍🏼
Its funny that Halloween 1978 is my favorite horror film of all time and RZH 2007 is probably in my top 5 most hated horror films of all time.
I can understand that 😉
Undeniably Rob Zombie was able to make his Halloween remake movie extremely different.
Also Michael Myers isn’t scary at all because no mystery why he is a evil character.
exactly Jason. Violence alone doesn’t make a movie scary.
@@rosaliazurita611
Also it’s not scary at all when we know Michael Myers is going to kill characters which removes all suspense along with knowing why exactly Michael Myers is an evil character.
This is a serious Horror movie that fails greatly to be scary.
@@jasoncase9481 totally, you hit the nail on the head.
Thanks Billy, We appreciate the feedback.
Completely agree
My worst kill is Ronnie white. And best line from larurie oh mommy mr. Nickels rub me wrong way. And she grab a bagel put her finger in the hole of bagel that favorite best line with a bagel prop. And my worst kill is Debbie Meyers killing herself. That hurt me the most cause because I loved her so much and see looking back on that video and see looked at it all the memories that she had with her family and then when she did that to me was really heartfelt but there for me I think that is my best and most kill of Halloween 2007
I ment worst
From what I've read the young Michael stuff is in 1978. And the adult Michael stuff is in 1995.
Awesome, but there is a cellphone 😏
Many people don't appreciate my take on his films but he seems to follow a simple formula. Ugly people doing ugly things.
Creative license, that’s all 😉
@@TSLMoviePodcast
That flaw is awful writing because that is something that should be explained.
They must have had him on steroids at Smith's Grove.
When Michael is in present day it looks like 2007 so 15 years before that it would of been 1992 which looks about right
Interesting, it’s just that the music being played is all late 70’s early 80’s which confuses things slightly.
Thanks for contributing! Appreciated
Given you are from the Uk I’m happy to settle with your opinion 😉
Hope you’re enjoying the content.
@@TSLMoviePodcast you guys are brilliant and bounce off each other well, you have a good balance which works, I'm hoping to do something similar in the future, only just started my channel out so be great if you guys would support & subscribe 👍🏻 much appreciated, keep up the content
The best: Trailer & end credit roll.
The worst: The movie.
it's one of my biggest gripes about RZ's Halloween movies. The dialogue is so crude and cliche trailer park trash and people with long hair and beards. I'm not saying everyone has to be clean-cut, but everyone (including the girls) were insufferable.
Yes, insufferable is a great word
All Ronnie was missing was a Trump 2024 sign in his yard
The breakfast scene with Ronnie is so over the top its disgusting, I can't watch it again as it angers me.
Yep, incredibly off colour
This film is like two films in one, the first part goes up all the way till Michael is back in Haddonfield and puts on his old mask then the rest is like a part 2. It's very beat for beat of the original with a few scenes changed and you see more of Michael & the brother/sister storyline just so they can say it's a remake and not a full on copy.
I normally skip the beginning of this film because it's all trash and don't get me started on the rape scene, it was so unnecessary and not a Halloween movie in my opinion.
I agree with you
Have never watched all of it. Survived the embarrassing kitchen scene and got as far as the boy being bullied in the bathroom then switched it off. The film was just annoying and had no interest in watching it any further.
Malcom McDowell was a terrible Loomis so bad you wouldn't have even though it was same character
Ugly people doing ugly thing=-every Rob Zombie movie. Suspense took a backseat to shock and gore. If they're gonna hire someone just for having a marketable name, maybe next time they should try Jerry Dracula 😒
They are the best characters for sure

Awesome movie....6ft8 Micheal way better than original 🍻😜
I am not a fan of either of Rob Zombie's Halloweens. However I did enjoy Malcolm McDowell and Brad Dourif. Tyler Mane was good as Michael Myers but he was just too big which took something from the character for me. Myers in 1978 blended into the scenery and that made him scary.
My favorite horror guys!! thanks again!
Cheers Rob 👊🏼
