    Greetings from Australia, John, what a fantastic motor design and build. Very professional engineeing, very professional build, best mud motor on TH-cam by far!!! Thanks, Adam.

    Thanks for sharing so much information about your design. Those little Honda 4 stroke engines are sweet little units.

      First, thanks for the favorable comment. Honda offers two versions of the GX35. The other one has a different fuel tank configuration for fueling from the top like in a gas powered post hole digger. It is my understanding that the oiling system in these particular Honda 4 Stroke motors allows them run in different positions. i.e. vertical, horizontal, angle etc.
      One project I am looking at is utilizing it to make a neat little outboard for Kayaks. It would be SUPER!!!!!!
      My Goal would be to incorporate the Linear Actuator Steering System and other items I designed in the electric trolling motor system discussed below.
      I am in the final prototyping stages of an Electric/Manual Steering
      System with Tilt and Trim for Minn Kota Transom Mount Trolling motors.
      It will be the cats meow for Kayaks. Check out my channel for videos
      or see the entire build process on the NuCanoe Forum. www.nucanoe.com/forum/outfitting/a-new-12-volt-linear-actuator-steering-system-is-coming-to-a-nucanoe-near-you/

    The stainless shaft is .375 i.e. 3/8" Diameter I used a 3/8" ID X 3/4" ID Seal. The 1" O.D. aluminum tubing with 1/8" wall thickness can vary and can cause the seal to fit loose. If so, you may have to apply some JB Weld to the O.D. of the seal when you insert it into the 1" O.D. aluminum tube.

    I have to say this is awesome am looking to build a small light mud motor to go on a kayak this looks like it will fit the bill. great video

      iwantosavemoney What would be nice is to have a 12 volt linear actuator control the tilt and trim. Others have done this on trolling motors on Kayaks. I am in the final prototyping stages of an Electric/Manual Steering System with Tilt and Trim for Minn Kota Transom Mount Trolling motors. It will be the cats meow for Kayaks. Check out my channel for videos or see the entire build process on the NuCanoe Forum. www.nucanoe.com/forum/outfitting/a-new-12-volt-linear-actuator-steering-system-is-coming-to-a-nucanoe-near-you/

    Hi Tomi,
    I built the mud motor as a prototype project. I just sold the prototype unit shown in the video to a gentleman in Canada. I don't intend to build any more like this one.

    This looks great! What are you using for the shaft seal at the end of the shaft tube? also, what diameter is the stainless shaft?

    Cool- good job. I would love to see the details of the motors they use in asia- I bet they are stripped down to stupid easy.

      You are most welcome. If I ever get the time I would like to utilize the same Honda GX35 4 stroke and make a trolling motor for the rear of my Kayak. It would push my kayak with ease. I would just need a right angle gear box for the bottom of the shaft and I would be ready to go. I would also put on my electric Linear actuator steering control system and backup manual system that I designed. It would be the Cats Meow!!!!! Presently working on an electronic kit to convert Minn Kota 5 speed motors to variable speed for use on kayaks. The variable speed motors draw a lot less amps and you get more run time.
      Glad you enjoyed the video.

    nice work. you know a way to add a 6 gal external gas tank with primer bulb?

    • @helicopterjohns
      @helicopterjohns  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** I am not sure if that would work or not. The carb is probably designed for a gravity feed system and may not???? work with a siphon feed system. Call Honda and ask them your question. I am sure someone in their technical support department can give you the correct answer.

    The rotating part of the tilt mechanism was in a box of stuff a friend of mine gave me. I have no idea where it came from. Sorry for the delay in answering your question.

    what is the end seal bushing on the drive shaft where it meets the prop?

      The black piece on the very end is a delrin bushing sized to the shaft. There is also a seal inside of it.

      It was something that I had in my inventory and have no idea where it could be purchased.

  • @helicopterjohns
    @helicopterjohns  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    No, I don't sell these. I just built one for my small Jon Boat. I might consider selling the one I built if the price were right. In the near future I would like to build a larger long tail mud motor with say a Honda 5 HP motor on it. I have seen others in action in You Tube videos and I think it would be a nice size and not too heavy.

    you can buy a string trimmer with that motor on it cheaper then you can buy just the motor by it self

      Hi Paul,
      Sorry, but I don't have the mud motor any longer. I sold it to a fishing guide in Canada and didn't weigh it prior to selling it. If I had to guess??? I would say approximately 15 lbs.
