@@jeremyriley1238 GX had a difficult singleplayer campaign but the races themselves were smooth as butter and amazing in multiplayer. And the graphics aged beautifully. That's why you see so many people saying they don't mind a straight port even though of course they would welcome a remaster.

It looks extremely fun to me, but F-Zero was also the second game I had for the SNES in 1992 after SMW. It sounds like the original music is there too, is that right? Amazing, in that case.

I’m no F-Zero fan, but this must be equal parts exciting and devastating for the fans. Having this be the first thing in the franchise in years ánd it being an online exclusive.

It's mostly just devastating tbh. Reminds me of the kiddy land scene from SpongeBob. This is a very obvious "Bone throw" to attempt to sate desires for a new game, but it's very clearly not what fans are hoping for, especially with the way it was presented. "Here you go, you waited almost 20 years, for a mobile game!"
As a fan I've long given up hope of a new F-Zero game, so I see this more as a fun treat than as a letdown! I had this exact idea years ago so it's cool to see implemented now.
At least you got something. I as a Donkey Kong Country fan is am just reaching for air.

Fully agree! I haven't had this much fun in a game in a long time. Making F-Zero massive multiplayer was pure genius. It's so good.
Yea this game is actually very fun. I get some of the frustrations but at the same time, this is actually a fun game to play.
Got ninth place on one race. I clipped a wall while boosting, it cost me the first place win.
People complaining haven't tried it. Is it as exciting as a brand new game? No. Is it still fun? ABSOLUTELY.

Its so hard to stay in first because of Random Spawning NPCs that knock you into walls and Suicidal NPCs that heavily damage you and slow you down, leaving you open to attacks from everyone

Nintendo said Mario 35 was a timed release from day 1, and Pac Man 99 just shut down because the interest wasn't there. F ZERO 99 is way more fun than Pac Man 99 so I don't see them shutting it down.
Growing up in the 90’s being able to play other people in this game was my childhood dream

@@chimericalical If I'm being real... this kind of feels like one thing that F-Zero has always, ALWAYS, been designed to aim for. F-Zero 99 is like an archetypical death race, and F-Zero has very much had death race elements and vibes from day 1!
While there absolutely should be a new conventional ultra-speed racing game released as an F-Zero cornerstone, I think the game's always been calling out for this kind of mach-speed endurance rally mode. And it seems to be working really well already!
This was the biggest heartbreaker in the entire direct. Wanted to stop watching after years of patience was met with a massive slap to the face.

This game is so much fun. It’s so addicting. The races are chaotic and fun. The skyway is a perfect feature because of how smooth it is. Honestly this whole game is SMOOTH.

Honestly it seems fine. My guess is this is nintendo gauging interest in Fzero
I initially started playing this as a side game when i just wanted to play something for a short time but it's addictive and now find myself putting aside more time for a proper session. It's not mentioned in the trailer but there are also Mini Prix and Grand Prix where a number of cars get eliminated in each race with only 20 left in the final race. Plus you can practice the courses against ghost cars of each of the four cars.
I'm happy to see anything F-Zero, but man, this was a stab in the heart.
I can only hope this means a proper sequel in the future.

@@magic2546It is well worth checking out. Especially if you can find a copy of F-Zero GX for the GameCube. The series is known for extremely fast racing and great music.
@@illfordF-Zero GX sold over one million copies. I think a remaster of that game would be the best option to release something refined without spending too much on development. Minimize that risk, and let the fans show their passion.

People are acting like this is some kind of "monkey's paw" thing, and yeah, it would be nice to get a new F-Zero in the vein of F-Zero GX, this actually looks really cool, and the aggressive, chaotic nature of F-Zero racing lends itself well to a 99 Battle Royale type of game. It certainly looks cool regardless of any of that. Really, at this point, I'll take anything I can get.

I never thought a "Battle Royale" game would make me this excited. Is the closest thing to the race scene from "Ready Player One", but is F-zero.

@@Ray_2112 I guess the programmers loved that scene in the movie so much they brought It into F-zero. However, hopefully one day, we have an official racing game based on the tracks and characters of "Ready Player One", but with copyrights "BS" on the way it seems unlikely.
Played this the first night it was out and had a blast! I love that the graphical aesthetic is still the same as the original game, just in higher res and widescreen
I love F Zero 99. Im about 15 races in and I’m living this. The best 99 so far. I would love to see an F Zero X 99 or a new F Zero game. Super fun so far!!!
Ok Nintendo... This is an excellent game to bring back the start of a racing era and these updates are great. BUT... you did say no more courses and have added basically variations of existing courses even as ??? Tracks. But what would be nice is if the entire Satellaview set of courses was added, even the just recently resurrected courses. None of us back in '97 in the NTSC-U region were able to play them cause the Satellaview was exclusive in Japan! Please add these courses for all the world to play so we don't have to use ROM hacks or patches to play them!

this is such an awesome idea, and it's a ton of chaotic fun online!! Personally I think this is a great way to sorta "feel" the interest in F-Zero out a bit, and honestly positioning it as a more aggressive, battle-royal alternative to say something like Mario Kart might just give it that edge to cater to a larger audience!!

Played it for a few hours today and I'm hooked. The first F-Zero is one of my favorite games ever and I really like this battle royale spin on it.

Wow, F-Zero actually got something. Could this be a test a run for a future F-Zero game? Before the N64 released, I remember my little self loving the designs and music of F-Zero.
Update: I just played F-Zero 99 for over eight hours today and this has to be one of the best things Nintendo has done for a while. It's complete chaos on those tracks!

The only 99 games to shut down were Mario 35, which was mentioned before it even came out that it would only be up for a limited time, and Pac-Man 99, which is owned by Bandai-Namco and thus subject to their decisions. Neither are an indicator that Nintendo likes to kill these games off. Tetris 99, the other one, not only is still up but recently got a Fire Emblem Engage theme update not too long ago, so its clear they plan to keep it going as long as possible.
Tetris 99 survived, so this should too.
Never played an F-ZERO game, but man this is so addictive and so much fun. I need to check out the other games in the franchise.

Let’s hope it last for as long as Nintendo continues supporting the franchise. We’re so long overdue for a new Fzero game. Only thing I wished they would have added were more tracks and add some of the tracks from Fzero on the GBA GP legends and Climax and X.

For a free game this is actually cool. Totally gonna try this game.
As someone who played the original F-Zero, while I’m happy they brought back an updated version of it, it would be even more awesome if they brought in a new game with all these new features, and preferably more
Why are people mad about getting a new f zero game? I thought they wanted one
Well, it's not really a new game, just a new mode for the oldest game...but after the initial disappointment I really like it, makes me want to play the entire series again. Still hoping for a GX remaster...don't dare to hope for a proper new game though.
