    I have never seen anyone that loves fixing up old Kawasaki's more than this guy. Every single detail is addressed. They look like they are coming out of the factory when done.

    Another super cool resto by you experts there. Really loved seeing how Hilo removed the intake manifolds especially. Great trick from Hilo your Master Mechanic for sure! Be nice to see how you remove and replace the head and cylinders ...without breaking fins, ugh. You guys are the best, keep em coming. Cheers, Pat in Florida

    I liked playing ricky-racer on my 76 KZ900 (green) back in the day and added the short reinforcement tubes welded between the frame tubes under the gas tank (like this bike) to triangulate the area. Also added the gusset between the back down-tubes. It really helped settle down the head shaking at speed through the turns. Loved trying to imitate Keith Code on our California twisty back roads in the coastal hills back then. Wish I had kept my KZ, but it still had some head shake so I sold it and bought a new Ducati in 1978. Still have the Duc in my garage. Bought a new 1988 ZX10, which is still like new and sitting next to the Duc. lol

    • @tomzinninger9371
      @tomzinninger9371 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Back popping" typical with a good header. When power circuit enrichened to compensate for better flow (either bigger jet or raised needle or both), pilot system often must be leaned out to allow bike to idle without fouling plugs. This makes closed throttle deceleration lean, thus the "popping". If this is undesirable to you, don't use a performance header like a Kerker.

    • @YTjndallas
      @YTjndallas 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tom Zinninger I had a 1980 550 LTD from 1985-1991. My friend had the GPz550. He installed a header, pods and jet kit in his Keihnin diaphragm carbs. It never ran right again. I installed pods and raised the needles in my Mikuni throttle-slides for like 18 cents and it ran like a raped ape. I could pretty much keep up with the 700cc bikes in those days.

    Very nice bike i the mid 80s i lived in South Florida and a big group of us would go on long rides together there was a local motorcycle shop that had a rental fleet and i used to rent that exact bike on those rides because my personal bike was smaller and not as comfortable for me to go on long rides It was my daily rider / commuter i liked the center of gravity and power band of the bike a lot btw the one he had was stock yet in very good shape in all honesty i like most of the 1970s thru 80s motorcycles with a preference to the Japanese ones to me they all had a styling that looked and felt right to the rider

    These old air-cooled 2 valve Kawasaki's with a Kerker megaphone sound better than any new bike. Even my ZX14s with full Yosh and Akrapovic systems don't sound as good.

    Man I don’t know how these people let their bikes deteriorate so badly. I got a 75’ Z1b that I bought after sitting outside in the weather a decade or more. Seat was toast as well as the paint. It was still much cleaner and rust free compared to what I see come thru Johnny’s shop. The man would freak out to see the shape mine is in. I’m saving my coin to submit mine to Johnny.

    how much would you charge to rebuild a 1984 honda magna vf700 motor and transmission? if the motor was off the bike, it runs pretty good but it needs second gear fixed, it pops out of second gear n goes to neutral, could prob use rings and such while it is apart

      64faffi, we can appreciate what you are saying. Sometimes it is difficult to be overseeing each step that our Japanese mechanic Hilo does on these bikes. If I am unavailable to narrate, Hilo stops and grabs his phone to shoot updates. We think he takes a pretty good video, and it fills in the gaps. We may consider doing a voice over, but don't want it to come across hokey. Thanks for your input!

    Was the engine seized at first? Lol, nevermind I just got to 1:50. Why was so much of the video out of focus? That's not like your wife, who is usually excellent. If this were my bike I'd have to have a full frame-off restoration. I just don't like all those mods.
    Edit: I see you did pretty much a frame-off resto.

    • @Johnnysvintage
      @Johnnysvintage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Robert. Sometimes if we are out of town while Hilo is working -- he also works a lot on the weekends, he will grab his phone and take a video and send it to (my wife) to insert later. When he does it this way, the video compresses for easier sending which compromises the quality. I guess we'd rather include it to show the whole story. Thanks for the opportunity to clarify that, and thanks for watching!
