One time I went with my aunt to a hair salon (she was new in town) and they color her hair with box dye.😬
I actually got a hairdresser to put box dye on my hair once and it came out nicer than when she tried dyeing my hair with her own products 😂
So I was on TH-cam to study the process of bleaching and dying my hair gray. In the mists of my research I found your videos and after watching quite a few, you have successfully convinced me to start a savings to get it professionally done. I AM SHOOK!!!!! That is awesome! If budget is a limiter, you can also try beauty schools, or a salon with an apprentice. They won't be as experienced as a full priced stylist, and I wouldn't necessarily trust them with a color correction or something, but the women I know right out of beauty school typically have a lot of experience with color, and know how to do it safely. Some salons will guarantee their work, and a senior stylist will help the apprentice fix it if they mess up.

I don’t mean this in a mean way: Green is guaranteed to make that already pink face look like a tomato since green enhances reds if they’re in close proximity. The honey brown looked so much better and evened out her skin color.
The Matadore Very true. I mean, if that is what she wanted then that's cool, it doesn't have to look good to anyone else other than the person who wears it, but yeah, green is not a flattering color for her.
Aren't green and red contrary colors? I think they cancel each other instead of enhance? When you have redness on your face don't you use green base to conceal?
NokBinHongAn They are complimentary colors, on opposite sides of the color wheel. And yes, you do use green corrector to cancel out skin redness. However that is covering one with the other, the two colors next to each other make each other look more vibrant.

I wish she would have just slapped some Manic Panic on it and called it a day. I never had these issues when I was experimenting as a teen.

Exactly. I've had so many mishaps where dyes wouldn't perform correctly and just slapping a jar of manic panic dye did the trick. You seriously can't go wrong with it :)

After watching a lot of these it seems like a lot of these mistakes could be avoided by just applying the color evenly...
or even just a LITTLE understanding of the color wheel and complimentary colors.
Like literally it takes less than 30 minutes to understand that.

your hair length is doable for the DIY bleach,because pixie cuts can be dealt with, not lobs or long hair.
I've got hair almost to my boobs and I DIY bleach it. If you do your research you can bleach/tone your hair at home properly. Most people just don't want to put the effort in (and fair enough!! It's a lot of work!!) and pay for the privilege of a stylist doing the work for them. But let's not pretend that you can't do it at home!

She should have used a red/gold corrector. You just mix it into your bleach. It costs $4. ALWAYS add your corrector when bleaching color out at home UNLESS YOU WANT BRASSY HAIR! (Or are actually going to bleach multiple times too get it right, but even then, it's sooo helpful!)

I've been dying my hair red with box dye for years and it works fine. The main reason I just use box dye is because it seems way too complicated to figure out the proper ratio of bleach to colour. Maybe you could do a video on how to dye your hair with proper dye rather than box dye? I know you would probably prefer people went to a salon but not everyone can afford $200 to get their hair done. $20 of box dye is all I can really afford.
Stylist here - if you're just depositing colour (not going lighter) and you don't have greys you would use 10vol and colour 1:1 or whatever the colour tube stipulates. If you have greys you would use 20vol.
Amanda Robbins Thanks so much that's really helpful! Is there a particular brand that you would suggest? I don't have any greys and I've been dyeing it red for many years so the ends are very light.
Stylist here. Really the only "professional" color you can get without being a licensed stylist is the stuff at Sally's beauty supply. If your ends are a lot brighter I would do a 20 volume developer with the color on your roots for 20mins then mix the color with a 10 volume developer and put it on your ends for 10-15 minutes then wash off. If you don't want to buy two different developers then I would put the color/developer mix on your roots leave on for 20 minutes then put the mixture on your ends for 10-15 minutes then wash off. Hope this helps.

Fun thing I learned from having blue hair.. Because color remover opens the cuticle it is the LAST thing you should ever use because it basically gives the color a deeper place to settle. It will actually LEWK like it’s working but when you rinse there is NO difference. Bleach is def the way to go.

Because her hair was darker at the scalp so they needed to put it on the scalp then immediately pull through the ends. There are times that the scalp needs to be done first.
