@@everythingmikayla I agree with this. For one in Canada you can’t work as a tech or even really a assistant without schooling. And Assistant and Tech are two different things. We also can’t be unlicensed, assistants don’t need to be licensed but still need to attend school mc but techs MUST be licensed.

But like Meghan said, being a tech is highly regulated here (at least where I am, in Ontario) whereas assistants have a LOT more leeway and don't actually require schooling/can even just be trained on the job. Recently, it actually became possible for techs to be sued individually instead of people suing the vet/the whole clinic, too, which is super intimidating! And at least at my school, we aren't required to do any college prior to entering the Vet Tech program. A lot of my classmates have done some college already, but it's wholly possible to apply to the program straight out of high school, write the HOAE, and get in without any college prerequisites/experience. Which I'm not sure how I feel about that, because some of my classmates are still super young/inexperienced and are really struggling because of it :( It's a tough program - but it's so cool meeting likeminded people to share in it with!!
hii mikayla! i am working hard to get into vet tech school right now (the community college im looking at has competitive entry and so im retaking some science classes to make my grades stand out a bit better... also didnt do the greatest in high school). i have worked w animals a little bit, but havent done my shadow work yet. i was wondering if you were ever squeamish or had a hard time stomaching some of the things you have had to do? i am okay w most things i have seen other vet techs do, but still get a lil dizzy w needles or blood draws. just was wondering if you had any things that you were difficult and if exposure to it has been helpful! thank you for your channel, i just discovered it and have been watching all night
Hello! Oh yes I for sure did. Just two years ago I would literally sweat from being so nervous to cut black nails so that should give you an idea how I felt with most things haha i promise there will come a point where you’ll be so focused on what you’re doing that it won’t even phase you. In the end, you’re trying to help the animal so your own personal fears won’t stop you. But it’s totally okay if you are! You can do it girl, I have faith in you! Thank you so much for the support❤️
