Just upgraded to RP (first full frame). Adapted my EF 50mm to it. It's such a treat to use. I hate to be that guy but it's just such an improvement over aps-c. Even as the lowest end ff, the colors and dynamic range just pop right out of camera. Let alone as a raw file.

As a Wedding Photographer - I love and appreciate all the SOOC images (and the frikin cool music) at the end... so many times (and everyone does it) - when you compare the SOOC to your favourite photographers final images, it can be disheartening... so our mucho appreciation for keeping it real, Taylor... you (and your Wife) are the best!

Your pictures really encouraged me to take more pictures with the 50mm 1.8. The focal length has been quite tough to get used to as I’ve always been relying on telephoto-ish looks. Great photos.

Awesome video Taylor! Whoever did the hair and makeup for this wedding did a phenomenal job. Super modern looks and so well balanced. It's funny what a photographer notices versus someone who has no idea. I never noticed the distracting background at all. I think all the images are so soft and romantic. Also - The pizza song is literally epic LOL

Always nice to go back to the fundamentals to refresh the perishable skill, although I had forgotten my first 'fun' time to shoot a wedding with a 50 f/1.8 over four decades ago. Of course back then with film, a Metz flash too to keep up with the motor drive.

Different strokes and all that as I love the look this lens gives. It has a nice Planar vintage look which I'm guessing comes from the simple, under corrected lens design.

Beautiful work. I love your approach very natural look. I have been doing wedding work on a budget. I use an R6 and R. I only have the cheaper 50 mm and 35 mm and kit as my native lens. I have one good EF zoom I use adaptive. Really don’t have the budget for the L glass. Thanks for this review. It’s encouraging seeing great results from budget RF glass. I have to trust my skills as a photographer over the quality of my set up. It’s a journey to add as much value to my clients while I grow my arsenal. I shot a reception dance entirety with that 50 while dancing in the crowd. Broke has its advantages 😎

This video is excellent! I've been leaning pretty heavily on my Canon 24-105 f4 L (EF) for group events lately. But I own the RF 50 f1.8 STM. Maybe now I'll be brave enough to use in a professional way. Also, what is your post-production like? Some of the tones I'm seeing in your photography are really quite lovely.

Thanks Taylor this is very helpful. Im moving over from Nikon to the R6 - I knew the RF 35mm F1.8 was a good choice - seems like this is a bargain as well. This will make my initial spend a bit lighter. Cant wait for my R6 to arrive - just got to sell my D750 now 👍

A longer lens is absolutely necessary for certain moments. There's fundamental, essential moments in most weddings that simply can't be captured from too far away. When the bride says "I do" at the altar wiping a tear from her eye, any photographer worth his or her salt had better be in TIGHT to get that fleeting moment and it ain't gonna happen with a 50. You just cannot miss a defining moment like that, and a few key others. Thanks, Taylor. I know you get that, and even mentioned a 70-200.

I own the RF 15-35 & RF 70-200, but whenever I leave the house for casual use, I take my 50mm 1.8 with me, since it is so easy to use and lightweight. The bokeh can get very busy though, just like you said. For video it is difficult to use, since it focus breathes really heavily.
