    As a former Subaru owner and still have a bit of a torch for Subaru I like the looks, but it definitely needs some help on the E side of the EV

    Subaru just needs to beg Toyota to not be so conservative with the charging, at least on the Solterra. Keep it on the Toyota if they want the reliability crown. They fix that and I bet this thing will sell like hot cakes, especially with the Subaru faithful. Everyone I hear who actually owns one loves it except for the charging.

      Honestly, the Toyota bZ4X was a decent Toyota car. At least, until we realized that it never charged faster than 65 kW at peak, no matter what we did, and it throttled fast charging to 2 cycles from 10-80% per 24 hours. If it were just the slow charging, and no throttle, we might have kept it, but Toyota insisted the car was operating appropriately, and would not confirm the existence of an update or when/if it would come to US cars. We sold it after 8 months, a week or so before the update was announced as available, but despite being a very loyal Toyota customer for many years, I am so glad I traded it in when I did, switching to my Mach-E.
      For someone who never road trips more than 400 miles the bZ4X is a nice car. I could see some loyal Toyota fans liking this car. All the car parts are Toyota quality, and the Subaru X-mode is handy if the roads are really snowy or slick (but even without, handled well in snow and ice). It just is the EV specific aspects that are underwhelming.

      @@thekat-dg9fx I hear you. I've heard rumors that they were possibly going to update the 0-80 charging for the AWD / CATL battery via an update at some point. Could be completely false but with all the bad press I would think they would try, but the loyalist aren't going to wait forever before trading for a better ev. Subaru admitted they were losing loyal customers to Tesla which is why they wanted to get an EV out there as soon as possible.

    Stay away from the 2023 Subaru Solterra! I’m experiencing serious issues with 2023 Subaru Solterra electric vehicle. This EV is performing poorly and charging slowly. Cold weather causes about 50% 2023 Subaru Solterra reduction in range. Driving 2023 Subaru Solterra on snow can be dangerous. This vehicle was designed for the Japanese market. 2023 Subaru Solterra is not equipped to handle Michigan winter driving conditions. I was treated unfairly and dishonestly by LaFontaine Subaru dealer.

    I didn't like it when I sat in it at an auto show. And I don't like rebranding. It's a Toyota, not a Subaru, AFAIC. I thought the black, shiny console area was horrible. (the material, the design isn't so bad in terms of screens/buttons) The back seats were too low (a problem in a lot of BEVs). The overall quality of materials felt lower than competitors, which surprised me. The other Subarus had better quality materials, IMO. I understand it drives well. It's reasonably quiet and smooth riding and is screwed together well. But Toyota/Subaru need to rethink the interior. I'm OK with the instrument binnacle being a quasi head's up display but it needs to be more adjustable. Thanks for the review.

    Love the Solterra as an around-the-town EV. Disappointed only with the 6-8 hour charging time (using Level 2 charger) Also disappointed with the recent “software update”. It really only provided a calibrated screen telling the percentage of use. It also revealed that the factory-installed readout made you think there were more miles per charge than now. New, off the lot, without the software update, I received 226 miles with 80% recommended charge. However, after the software update, it only charges 206 miles with 80% charge.

    Mach E SR DCFC is 109 KW. Solterra is 100-105 KW, so similar. Usable battery capacity is 60-64 KWh total, smaller than the Mach E with more range. It has a big buffer. I did a 0%-100% charge and it took 60 kWh net. Level two charging efficiency is 93%. Mach E SR AWD range is 211-220 miles. The lacking Subaru issue is no battery preconditioning. So cold weather DCFC can be slow on a cooler battery. Mach E level 2 efficiency is 90%. And happy B-Day!

    • @MachE_VLOG
      @MachE_VLOG  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks!
      Mach-E Extended Range is 99 kWh with 91 kWh usable. The Mach-E SR new LFP battery is 78 kWh with 72 kWh usable. The Solterra has a 72.8 kWh battery with 64 kWh usable.
      The new LFP battery on the SR Mach-E now tops out at 150 kW (just like the Extended Range) and it is OK to charge the new battery to 100% daily.

    • @KlemensEV
      @KlemensEV 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MachE_VLOGunfortunately those Ford LFP specs are not published by Ford as of yet for the Select. Still listed as 70 kWh max and 109 kW charging. Anxious to see the new Mach E Winter range hit for LFP since they require much more heat than NMC. If Ford would only install a heat pump. The news from Tesla’s with LFP is a dramatic drop in Cold weather range. Kind of apples and oranges comparison due to battery tech. You will have to source and LFP and NMC select and do an old weather follow the leader test. Anxious to see those results….

      @@KlemensEVThey've been published. You can even see it on the window sticker on new Mach-Es. We're planning on doing a range test on one as soon as we can but we rarely get anything close to a cold temp here.

    The bZ4X comes in FWD and AWD. I strongly recommend against the AWD in the US if you need to fast charge because it is extremely slow at fast charging.

    Belated Happy Birthday, Patrick! 🎉
    I met a Solterra owner on a trip through the Berkshire Mountains last month. He also loved it and was only looking at regional use around New England. For folks who love the brand, can charge at home and don't obsess over EV tech, I think your observations hold up and it would be a good fit.

    The back up sounds are normal for Toyota. My 2012 Prius plug in has that doesn’t bother me.

    I road trip my Mach e standard battery. I have done 17 states so far. I can usually get 3 hours of drive time before I have to stop. For me, this works out fine as I need to get out and stretch after a few hours driving. Thanks for the video.

    The best thing is the Premium 36 month Lease deal. Zero out of pocket and $360-399 per month depending on a state incentives. This is the cheapest EV lease deal currently and drive for 3 years for $13-14K. Overall with residual $39k. That lease cost is the Mach E depreciation over driving it off the lot.

    Hey guys, nice review for a short time with the car. One comment when you were talking about charging speed for people that don’t have home charging you mentioned that this car would charge slowly, which is certainly true but that the Kia EV6 would charge an 18 minutes. That is not likely to be the case because that is only with battery preconditioning and if you’re talking about somebody that charges around their home, they’re not going to have the battery preconditioned. The same as true for the Porsche. Those kinds of charging speeds are only attained after driving at least 100 miles I would say in my experience. I think 10-80 even in a fast charging car that isn’t preconditioned is likely to be 30min at least.
    Happy belated birthday, Patrick. I know how long ago you did the video of the EV event in New York so this was a long time in production.😅

    • @MachE_VLOG
      @MachE_VLOG  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, very true. And you have to have a charger that can give you those speeds.

    Happy Burpy, Patrick. Another orbit completed! 🎂🥳🎉🎈🎁 You two are on a roll lately! I can hardly keep up. We've owned two Subarus (during our "gas" years), and really loved them. I have to say, however, that I've been disappointed by Subaru's transition to EVs. Several years ago they developed the Stella and R1e (I even have a small diecast model of the latter), yet… they never brought them to market! And now… they're basically piggybacking on the Toyota BZ4X, which is just a piecemeal effort when it comes to the EV market. I also think the center console and touchscreen are too obtrusive and bulky, as though just an aftermarket component shoved into the car. rather than being designed to complement the interior. I'm surprised, however, that Liv could drive it with that console! I loathe the piano black plastic, but love the cloth dashboard. I also like its lane change and lane keep features. I find that auto lane change isn't really necessary -or even very safe.

    • @MachE_VLOG
      @MachE_VLOG  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      💙 ⚡️🎉The big console was better than I thought it would be because of the gap underneath, but it wasn't comfortable and it would definitely start hurting on a longer drive . I wouldn't buy it for that reason. - Liv

Maybe it was just us rushing to give a good review in the short time we had to film. I appreciate the sentiment though, Casian! Patrick is a lovely dude who values my thoughts!💙 - Liv
