If there is one song that shows what a genius Tuomas is, it's this one. Angry is an emotion that often boils down to just screaming, but not this song. Jukka trying to kill his drum set, Marko spitting out those lyrics, Emppu playing those awesome raw riffs and even the keyboard sounds angry. This song is pure rage made into one hell of a masterpiece. The way the brass and the choir grow in the end is amazing. It's one of my absolute favorite songs. 🤘🏽

This video shows clips of the live performances, but the song has never been performed live, and according to Tuomas, never will. As he has said, "We are all different people now." And to say 'angry' is an understatement. Livid I think fits better. The decision to fire Tarja was a joint decision by the entire band, and their feeling for her manager/husband certainly show here. From Marko's vicious vocals to Jukka's pounding drumming, to Emppu's fierce guitar I think this song was a catharsis for them all. And the orchestral outro is a virtuoso performance of what happens when you piss off Tuomas. I never thought the London Symphony could sound so angry. The perfect song for letting off steam. Great song, and great reaction. Stay safe, God bless, and keep rocking. BTW, according to a gear breakdown I saw, the purple guitar (ESP Signature EVII) has D tuning, and the white guitar (ESP Signature EVI) has E tuning. He also has an EVIII, don't have any information on it, I don't think he uses it much. According to his guitar tech, the EVII is several years old, but gets new pickups, etc every few months. He evidently uses a Kemper amp.

@@2ndhandsoulsmusic Ah, thanks for the info. I knew they replaced things but didn't know what. Since I have no musical ability, the engineer in me has gotten very interested in the gear. The engineering behind the instruments is fascinating, but I am still trying to get a good handle on it.

A cathartic composition for Tuomas and the band. Something they needed to get off their chest. Pointed squarely at Marcelo, Tarja’s husband. Never once performed live. Only Nightwish song with an explicative in the lyrics. Probably their heaviest tune. Keep exploring Nightwish!

You guys mentioned previously, about Nightwish is a Master Class on songwriting and performance, but its also cool to realize they are just human also.
I saw a fan video made by another reactor who distracted Emmpu during his solo in Ghost Love Score and he really flubbed it up. Even stopped playing for a few seconds.
That was in NYC this year.
Also in The Greatest Show On Earth at Tampere 2015, Tuomas plays a wrong note later in the song, when he is playing the piano part by himself.
Just shows they aren't machines, but still brilliant musicians.

This was one of the 3 songs related to the firing of Tarja.(Bye Bye Beautiful and The Poet and the Pendulum are the other 2). This one directed at Tarja's manager husband Marcelo.
Yes, it's angry. How angry was Tuomas? It's the only Nightwish song (excluding demos) that includes profanity. Even the way Marko sings it sounds angry.
This song has never been played live, and never will be. All involved have moved past the situation. The video you watched someone put together ,with the studio track over the top.

Hi guys, I hope you're all doing well. You've found the most angry song in Nightwish’s song catalog. It's aimed at Tarja's (their first singer) husband and manager Marcelo. The band considered him to be one of the most important factors in the dismissal of Tarja. In the first verse you’ll hear the band’s opinon on Marcello (“Leech in a mask of virtue”). In the second verse you’ll hear Marcelo’s point of view, but with a sarcastic undertone (“All for her and more for me” and “I fuck up everything but let me explain”). It is sung by Marko and if you listen to the lyrics, you'll understand why they have never done this live.

Parkinson's? Terrible. We will pray for you. The song was wonderful. We loved it. Now that I know what it was about,I can see the situation he was put in. Some other "manager" sticking his nose in where it didn't belong wound up getting their vocalist fired. That would have brought the wrath of Flipster down upon his feeble existence. If I were Touomas, I don't think I would have been as nice about it as he probably was. I would have probably gotten violent about it instead of just firing someone and then writing a song about it. I can relate. I've been in situations similar to this. A pissed off masterpiece. I agree.

      Moin moin, Alexandra and Flipster.
Since you're talking about it... Tuomas can't handle a direct confrontation with people. He admitted himself that he's a bit of a p*ssy when it comes to this. When there was a need to fire the first bassist (before Marco), he couldn't tell the guy that he had to go, he asked somebody else to do it. He couldn't confront Tarja either and invented this bullsh*t with the open letter instead. The firing of Annette was quite messy too. He's a genius composer but he just can't deal with people.
My biggest question about the whole story is WTF the management was doing. Nightwish wasn't some underground band at that point, they had a big crew and their own manager - I thought it would be HIS responsibility to handle that situation. Looks like he really wasn't giving too much sh*t, I don't know why.
Whatever... It was 17 years ago, who cares. I'm currently much more worried about Floor.

One of the Tarja break up trilogy off Dark Passion Play (before Floor's time). This is directed at Tarja"s husband Marcelo, who the band blamed in large part for the gulf between Tarja and the band and lead to them firing her. Lyrics and music perfectly capture their anger towards him. Other two songs in the trilogy are Bye Bye Beautiful (directed at Tarja) and Poet and the Pendulum. Never performed live and never will as the band has moved on. Tarja also wrote a song about the split called Enough that is very good and presents her side of the story.

A couple of further points on the pronunciation: you'll want to keep the 'oo' short and prolong the 'k'. Imagine saying Yuck-kah -- now just replace the vowel with a short 'oo', that in Finnish is denoted 'u'. Also, the 'a' is short and isn't prolonged by an aspirative. It's short and dry. You'll be that much closer to reproducing the noises that we the natives are rumored to make.

An "ode" to Marcello, Tarja's husband. The greed he had, destroyed their band. Forbidding Tarja to perform in the States, because the small venues were not bringing in enough money (small audience in the USA) not letting her travel with the guys, but needing her own tourbus, not letting her rehearse the songs with the band. He is some evil, greedy and insecure dude and you feel the anger and hate they feel towards him. This message is SO powerful, it must have been not a joke having a song like this deticated to you. I just love how they express their feelings in their music. True feelings from admiration, love to despite and hate. Bye bye beautiful is a message to Tarja herself, also angry...but not this hateful. When you listened to these songs, you understand the Poet and the pendulum even more. (you in general) Thank you
