That is a fantastically good piece of work. As for wood stain: Almost any wood stain will look fine if you prepare the wood, first. Your goal is to create an appropriately-sized grain. The easiest way to create a grain in wood is with grill/tool cleaning wire brushes. Every hardware store should have them, just ask. Try to find a set that includes some brass brushes, some steel ones and some nylon ones. We'll use all three for this process: 1) Run the steel brush over the wood in the direction you would like the grain to go. Do so gently. This will give you the deep grain of the wood. 2) Run the bronze brush over the wood in the direction you want the grain to go. This will give you the shallower grain of the wood. 3) Run the nylon brush along the direction you want the grain to go. This will clean out the stray debris/splinters. 4) Sand the wood down a bit with a sanding block. Gently. 5) Blow the sanded wood off, or vacuum clean. 6) Stain away.
What I love about your work is the fact that it's all done by hand. No very expensive laser or 3d printers. Just your skill and imagination. We'll done!
What a pretty build, the diffused light through the window was really effective. I'm in awe of your patience to be able to make that many books!! Seriously well done!
A nifty project - good results! I especially like the glow of the lights on the scenery in the window. Comments about execution: Great that you got goggles. Spray paint would be easier to cover the shelf. A tiny little sleeping cat or dog on the couch would be nice to add some life. Also a few books to make it like someone just left. Maybe a d few miniature items on the shelf for more lifelike decor.
How cute would it be to put a cute little sleeping cat on one of the shelves? Or sleeping next to a few cushions on the seating area. This is amazing, thanks so much for sharing.
To glue sides to planks, use a piece of masking tape. Stick to the underside of the plank. Now put a piece of “side” straight up next to it. Put the plank against it. Remove the “straight up” piece. Fold over and voila 😊
This is so lovely, you do such beautiful work! When I want to "stain" wood for small dioramas I usually use the full strength paint (usually one or two shades lighter than I want the finished wood to look) and then immediately wipe off as much as possible. It leaves it looking stained but still allows the woodgrain to show through nicely. That method does take a longer time since you have to do each individual area and not just do the whole piece at once, but I think it's worth it! I then use a very watered down wash of a slightly darker color, doing multiple layers until I get the desired color of the wood and then I coat it in a layer of varnish, 2 or more layers if I want the wood really shiny^^ Also, if you do all this before gluing it together you don't wind up with little glue spots that didn't take the color well. Hope that helps!
Have you tried Waverley antiquing wax? It doesn’t smell and you can put it on with a brush or baby wipe, dry or wet brush, light or heavy. It’s great stuff.
Thank you! I have an Etsy shop (link is in the video description). Right now, i only ship to EU countries, but i actually plan on changing that and will hopefully soon be able to also ship to the US! :) (I also do commission work, so if you’re really interested, you can shoot me a dm on instagram @kath.arsis )
You make this look so easy and relaxing! I would probably end up with tiny books glued all over my fingers 😂 Did you leave some space between the wall with the window and the bookshelves and the back of the box? You achieved such a beautiful lighting effect with the window!
What a delightful piece! Well, yours always are, but us book people are bound to really appreciate something like this. Do you glue the books together on the shelves?
You're very talented and this creation surely shows it once again. Do you sell commissioned work? If so, can you make a booknook of a 19th century photo studio with a small library? I'd be every interested in purchasing it, if you made one.
Thank you so much! And i actually do, i‘m always happy to do commission work! (Also, that project sounds super fun!) If you‘re interested, you can either send me a message on instagram (@kath.arsis) or write an email (katharina.mayer98@yahoo.de). I would be happy to hear from you :)
Hi! Just came across your channel and it was an instant subscribe! Can I ask what type of thin wood/board you are using? Looks easier to cut than some that I've tried.
Absolutely nice !! I also love the fact that you put your piece of art next to Suskind book The Perfume.. which is one of my favorite books. Can you please create a magic box about The Perfume ? I'd love it!!! (And everybody else 🎉❤)
So beautiful! At the moment, I'm in bed and can't move and your videos are so much fun to watch ❤ May I ask, what does the tattoo on your right arm say? I caught myself trying to read it, but I didn't get it 😂

Your book
Placement is an art in itself
Awesome!
I'm currently working on something similar, but as a shadow box to keep any dust out.
That knife work, so precise...you are my hero!
Jim Holtz distressed inks might be something to consider to is like stain. I've found they work similarly and they don't have a smell.

Thanks for sharing 😊
Maravilhoso!Onde pode aprender essa técnica?
