It's their job to give an opinion and to be fair this season has been mostly awful. Obviously it's down to injuries on key players, but they haven't adapted well to the situation.

This is the first year I've seen Van Dyke rattled. I wonder if it's because he has to take on a more vocal leadership role instead of the strong, silent lead-by-example type. Before this season I haven't seen him try to step in challenges...he more shepherds the attacker. I think he's just probably feeling that pressure and showing that he is indeed human after all. Still the best center back in the world, and he's definitely the most comfortable with Matip.

I’m a united fan but matip is so much more impactful than Gomez. I’d even go as far as to say that matip has been better than Virgil the last season or so.
I will say i think VVD is one of the best CB's in world football still but Joel has definitely been the better player this past year.

Gomez assured and confident performances have not resurfaced yet!!!! gomez is so easily pushed off the ball or out fought and out thought.... similar to how Trent is just easily brushed aside when we need him to be awake alert and be defensve....... 6 - 7/10 game!! glad we won but we can be so much more dominant as we showed versus City in the Community shield!!!..... Probably gonna get some heat for this but Matip is a better defender than VVD always has been in my opinion. Liverpool win more games when his on the pitch. Think the only thing VVD beats him with is Pace and Crossing. Overall Matip makes better interceptions, more clearences, better positioning, and carries the ball into midfield to open spaces for our forwards. VVD Like Kyle Walker Pace makes a difference to beating forwards to the ball. However as a overall defender Matip is really a classy defender and VVD plays better when Matip is on the pitch. YNWA
