I'm not sure if anyone has made an explanation for this song yet, so I'll give it a go. It's a pretty easy to follow video, but I felt like making this anyways c: So this world that these two characters live in is a very deserted, run-down place with constant cloudy skies. Our main dude explains the story of how he met the younger boy in his town, and how he'd tell him tales of the vast and beautiful blue skies. The boy grew up with the main dude, wanting to find that endless blue sky. Eventually, he becomes older and decides to go on a journey in order to find the sky. The main dude gives him instructions on how to get there, knowing that the road would be a dangerous one. They then part ways. VV THIS PART CAN BE SKIPPED. It's just evidence and stuff. Kinda rambly too. The summary can be found at the bottom. It's insinuated that the main dude knew he was sending the younger boy off to his death ( 2:45 - 2:58) due to phasing and the flash of blue lightning. The line "The fact you're not here in this world is proof that I loved you" at 3:12 could be interpreted as the main dude pretty much saying: the fact that I gave you the directions to the place you dreamed of going to, proves that I loved you and supported your dream (despite the fact the road there was deadly) Time passes and we see the main dude still residing in the rundown town, leading to the line "The proof that I loved you and the signs that I didn't love you enough" could be alluding to the fact that even though he helped him follow his dream as said previously, he still didn't go with him despite his love for him. We start to see that the main dude feels guilt and wishes to atone for what he did to the boy. In the beginning part of the song, at 1:26 , the line says "Pass on by, o beloved song, so you must reach the place you must go.", the "you" referring to the boy. In the latter portion of the song, at 3:42 , the lines say "Let's pass on by down these beloved streets so we may call upon where we must go." and "Let's go to see the edge of this world". This pretty much tells us that the main dude will try to follow the boy's dreams in honor of him. This mean's he'll be following the same path the boy did, and they'll go together in spirit. This is a nice theory! As for the 11 parting gifts line, I believe it's a reference to the number of songs in the album this song was in. Actually, this was the final song. So that line ties in both in terms of the overall theme of journey and new beginnings (Ao ni Aruku/Walking into Blue) of the album as well!
If you can see, the beginning of the person pressing the radio had the same coloured sleeve as the black haired young boy ( 0:20 ) So i think the black haired boy was the one who made it alive. At a certain part you could also see the young boy grow up into an older boy. ( 2:01) And the line said "The end and the evening sun. You've grown so big." The "end" probably meant the boy reached where he wanted to go and along the journey, he aged and the older boy says The end AND the evening sun. You've grown so big." insinuates that the younger boy saw the evening sun grow bigger which meant he went closer to the sun and saw that it grew bigger ( in perspective ). Then the white haired boy went to look for the black haired boy as he missed him and was guilty he sent his loved one out to the deadly road. The dark haired boy then came back to the town ( i assume he went to search for the white haired boy ) when he grew up during his journey to the sky and found the cassette tape OR maybe on the way back he used the same route and found the elder boy's body with the cassette tape in hand and took it back to the run down town to play it.
