As a health coach you may have been taught to do a free health history consult as a way to get to know a potential client. This technique is taught by many health coach training programs.
On the surface it seems like a good idea. Get to know your client, open up the conversation around their health and well-being, figure out if you'd be a good fit and talk about your services.
All good points. However, I feel like calling it a consult, a health history, makes it feel very medical in nature like an intake.
Over the years as I've shifted more into ally, guide, embraced the coach approach and let go of being the expert, I've developed a more effective and coach-like way to position free introductory calls and demonstrate what health coaching is all about.
In this video, I share why I don't do health histories anymore and what to do instead.

This is great! I always felt awkward asking about medications/blood type etc. Love this format that you have outlined.
