I've been turned off by Paul at times because he's made comments in videos making it seem like if you don't have grass fed/finished and pasture eggs that its not even worth doing. Still follow, get a lot of good info and use some of his supplements, but good to see he's clarifying a little more to say that grain fed beef is still massively better than the typical American diet.
Hoping that's true. Betting my life on it : ) We did two years of grass fed ground beef but needing some variety now, the grass fed steaks are so expensive I'm cheating with grain finished primal cuts.
@@pursueadventure Have you tried local farms to buy in bulk? you need a small freezer and about 50% will be ground beef. First buy small amount to see if you like the farm meat, then buy in bulk.
As a retired organic beef farmer, I believe that everyone should know that the industry plays silly word games to confuse you as to what you are buying! Just because the package states that the beef is grass fed doesn't mean beef is fed organic hay (100% GMO grass) unless it states it on the package, therefore most grass fed beef are grown on nasty overcrowded feed lots, not in pastures. Even "organic" beef can be, or is raised in nasty feed lots. They are just fed organic feed. What you want to do is pay the price for "organic pasture raised hormone and antibiotic free" beef. Same with chicken, turkey, or any other fowl. Your health is worth it.
Most beef in Costco will be raised with bovine growth hormone. It has been used in the industry for over 50 years. These cattle will also be GMO corn fed. People who eat only meat will ALSO have a much higher exposure to antibiotics given to the animal and this is why scientists think that superbugs are becoming more problematic. I studied agriculture in university and completely agree with what you say about "grass fed." Meaningless term.
Thank you for this input. I also wondered if it does not say "Angus", what species might it be? A mystery I assume. Where are all the dairy cows ending up for slaughter for example and so on.
@vincerobertson1214 you can just google cattle breeds in your country and it will give you an idea. Some are very specific like Highlands sold only in very small quantities for a small market. Dairy industry is a huge supplier of cows no longer milking and calves to be slaughtered for veal. In France and Europe you might see Charolais as a big meat breed. Many cattle will be "pastured" but they can still be fattened at the feed lot with corn, which can increase the intramuscular fat (marbling). But even some highly marbled meat can taste like nothing! Especially if it is fattened too quickly with corn. It's really the difference between corn and cattle prices that drive the industry. The large meat processors like JBS, Tyson and Cargill own a lot of plants and supply Costco, Walmart and others. Small independent farmers struggle to make money today.
I well remember the controversy over bovine growth hormones in the middle-late eighties (so that's forty not fifty years. Sigh). But that was for increasing milk production. Are you certain that this was also for increasing muscle mass? In milk it's more concentrated, thus more scary. Please clarify regarding usage.
I really appreciate it when people don’t crap on grain fed steak; as not many people can afford that kind of perfection/specificity. Never let grain fed deter you!
If you have a costco business center in your area, they actually sell whole primals of grass-fed beef at prices that are close to that of grain fed beef. I feel like a trip over there would be a great thing to show people, so that they know that there are more options than what they might normally see. I personally don't get my meat from costco because I get a 1/2 beef share from a local farmer for about $6/lb after processing and I know how its raised.

Paul thank you so much for everything that you do! you should do a review of Costco Business Center - they have a lot of different grass fed cuts of meat at great prices (imported from New Zealand). anybody with a regular Costco membership can go in. Great prices and deals even in California!
I found an Amish farm that has grass fed for $3 a lbs hanging weight but it's old milk cows. The Amish told me its healthier if its older. The beef is nice and dark and rich. Also found a deer butcher that has ground deer for pet food $1 a lb. We mix that with store ground beef. They can't legally sell it for humans but it's good stuff. You do need a freezer cuz it's only available during hunting times. I can't get my own deer license because I have a felony in my state. Not sure if I could elsewhere.
As an Aussie we grow up around farmlands as dad used to be a farmer, any lamb that’s certified Australian grown is grain fed. All grass fed. Beef is 99% grass fed. So much land we left them run free. The only difference between free range grass fed beef and organic here is the antibiotics use to ensure they are healthy and don’t get sick otherwise farmers lose out if the cattles are sick.
That grass finished ground beef is an insane deal that Costcos in STL started carrying about 6 months ago, but they are sold out every time I go there. Butcher said they sell out within a day of putting them out. Glad Paul highlighted the grass finished frozen patties. He's neglected to highlight those on past videos and are a great one to just have at the house.
For my budget Costco is the best for my Carnivore needs. I get the prime slabs of ribeye and cut them up myself at home. The Costco in my area doesn’t sell the saddle packs of ground beef. I get those at my local Walmart. I agree with you about fish and pork. A big fat NO!! Thanks as always for sharing your knowledge!
I would not buy any food at Wal-Mart. Years ago I found a hair weave inside some ground beef I bought there. Then last year my daughter that works for a vet told me that people come in to The vet with pets that are poisoned by Wal-Mart pet food and they call the companies on the food bags but the companies say the numbers don't match their records. Not sure if they are lying but it happened to me with my cats and Purina about 15 years ago.
@ I actually work at Walmart. I work in meat. Three kids, lots of medical debt and I own a small business and can’t find good help so I go where the deals are. Every place has their share of horror stories.
Ask one of the workers in the meat department if they have "chuck rolls" best deal in the house $4.30 lb and you get a lot of great cuts out of it if you do a simple youtube search on easy butchering chuck rolls. Labor of love, but totally worth it.
@@SeanLawn71 we have wegmans here in upstate New York. It's not much more than Wal-Mart. But way better quality for just a little more money. There's always something better. Aldys is better, bjs, target, etc. Find one near you other than Wal-Mart
Best usda choice deal at Costco is requesting the whole chuck. It's around 5 or 6 a lb. It produces steaks, some roasts and good ground beef. Good variety. You just gotta request it by calling in the morning because they usually cut it themselves and charge more.
The grass fed ground beef and frozen beef patties are the way to go. Buy them all the time. The hidden gem too is the $5 3lb rotisserie chickens to keep the protein from getting boring with ground beef. Get some avacados and some fruit and you can a solid 2k+ calories of clean food for like ~$8 a day. Keep in mind one single meal at a fast food chain like chick fila going to be $10-12.
I highly recommend checking out the Chuck roll. you have to ask the workers in the meat department for it. but you'll get a TON of value at anywhere from $4.50-$4.90 a pound. you have to break it down yourself, which isn't hard at all but, you'll get 4-6 chuck-eye's out of it (ribeye's little brother) 4-8 Denver steaks, 3-4 chuck roasts and about 8-10 lbs of ground beef if you have a grinder. Highly, highly recommend this as an affordable option. The family loves the steaks cooked reverse seared with salt and pepper, and finished with butter and rosemary. you'll compare them to the stakes you pay top dollar for at a good restaurant.
It will depend on the Costco. I inquired about chuck roll and some other primal cuts and they were close to the price already butchered, and there was no scrap, so not really a savings.
Paul, please look more into the "added coloring" in salmon. I've been told by someone involved that it is actually an algae that the fish needs to survive, but the FDA has it listed as a food coloring because it is also used as a red for food but it's not being used for that purpose, and its also not the false mental image that it gives people to imagine of a factory working dipping the meat in a dye.
he’s talked about it before, he does a lot of mobility stuff and strength training, but nothing crazy he says he doesn’t bench any more. Besides that a lot of surfing too, he’s just a very active guy
Costco needs to get on board and offer grass fed beef options. The demand is high enough now as more people understand the big difference on your body.
I've talked with 3 farmers who have cattle and all of them said grass finishing is almost always worse for the animals because they have less fat around their joints so the cows usually have bone issues since their bones will run together and cause issues for the animals. They all grain finish with grains they grow themselves organically as they did agree that grain finishing can be a problem if the grains aren't growing organically. Grain finishing all tends to have more marbling and more flavour. If you see 100% grass fed there is still a chance that the animals are grain finished because according to the farmers I spoke with - grass finishing is very difficult unless the farm is huge and practices formidable rotational grazing. Curious for thoughts on this ..
For chicken, sprouts have pastured raised chicken, and it is expensive but good quality. For salmon and other fishes, you can find wild salmon anywhere these days, i prefer the frozen ones, tho cuz parasites. You can also just eat small fishes like wild sardines that usually come canned. The cheapest ribeyes i have seen have been at Aldi. They also got cheap australian lamb and grassfed ribeyes and ground beef. Walmart as well btw. You are not going to find too many available cuts that are grassfed in the regular supermarket. Pork.... only from your local farmer, unfortunately. I use an app call market wagon that you can choose products from local farms. I usually use it specifically for pork.
Paying anywhere near $5 lb. for ground beef is ridiculos. Better to avoid it and eat PBJ sandwiches until they get it and stop robbing us blind. Nost of their meat is NOT affordable. Buy the tougher cuts and cook in pressure cooker or crack pot and it's so tender.
Yes, but you have to ask one of the butchers there. They're not on the floor with the rest of meats. In the back cause have to buy it by the case. A heck of a buy and easy to cut in steaks and/or roasts ...
Sams has grass fed/finished steaks right now. Ive bought a few packs and put in the freezer. Best part is its priced well. 4 filets are $29. For filets thats a good price. I believe the other is some sirloin cut thats two for $18
Hi Paul! Thanks for sharing. I wanted to ask you about smoking meat. Good way to preserve food or dangerous? What about Dehydrating? Curing meat with salt? I am from Argentina and basicaly we love eating raw ham and salami. Thanks!!
I used to be a huge fan of Costco’s red meat, but sadly, that’s no longer the case. Here’s why: 1. Mechanically Tenderized Steaks: Costco’s steaks are mechanically tenderized (check the label), which increases the risk of contamination, especially if you prefer your steak rare. 2. Lack of Country of Origin: Much of Costco’s red meat doesn’t list the country of origin. For example, check the packaging on their Grass-Fed Frozen Burger Patties. This reminds me of when Whole Foods got involved in a similar “one world” meat sourcing approach, combining meat from multiple countries into a single product. These factors make me reconsider purchasing red meat from Costco.
Very interesting. I found an Amish. Couple that sell grass fed milk and sell their cows for $3 lbs hanging weight. I tried a piece last yearBeef is nice and dark. Not sure if it's better or worse but I'm thinking of buying it this year. Like half a cow.
Hey Paul, is it bad to drink Pellegrino mineral water? It is carbonated. Is that bad? And it comes in a green plastic bottle & I know plastic is bad. But when the choices are municipal tap water 🚰, bottled water (in clear plastic bottles) & Pellegrino mineral water, which is carbonated & in a green, plastic bottle, what would you choose & why? Not sure you’ll see this comment, but what about steelhead trout at Sam’s club? It doesn’t Say color added or farm raised but is also about $2 cheaper per pound
I buy all my meat from Costco, in the UK, where it actually seems ever so slightly cheaper compared to Costco in the USA. I buy the large "primals" for £21.99 p/kg (Sirloin) which is roughly £10 per pound. £28.99 for whole ribeye (£13 per pound). Given the exchange rates that's about $12.56 for Sirloin per pound, and $16.33 for ribeye per pound. Apparently Costco UK also sell a line of "pasture for life" beef which does seem a little more expensive.
Where do these empty costcos exist because in San Diego I’ve gone at all times of everyday of the week and most times I can’t even find a parking spot, let alone film a video in the meat section without getting ran over.
My Costco only has American”wagyu” ground beef 80/20 and organic ground beef 85/15 but the American wagyu comes with selenium phosphorus and zinc more iron and b6 b12 riboflavin and niacin should I go for that instead?
I didn’t realize "organic" meant organic grain-fed. I much prefer the idea of grass-fed, as long as the grass hasn’t been treated with pesticides. Thanks
One thing that never comes up when talking about 'grass fed' meat is the glyphosate issue. If there is even trace percentages in the grass that animals are exclusively fed when raised, should this be taken into consideration when weighing the health benefits?
They need to bring the grass fed finished ground beef to Vancouver Canada! I do the lamb leg roast and cut it into steaks for several years now! Works out to almost as cheap! They did have those green package grass fed frozen beef packages last year as a test item! I bought several, and told others to as well, in hopes they would bring it in full time! They haven't but they need to! Canadians need grass fed options too!

I buy 32 burger patties (75-25) at Walmart for $27. Absolutely delicious. So much flavor!!!
frozen meat paddies often have added salt and other additives, so check the label.
Great video as always, have been loving your shorts, Thanks
Thanks for pointing these things out. I agree not a big price difference between grass-fed and grain-fed.
You missed out on the Diamond Valley Halal Grass Fed Ground beef! That one is awesome! You can find it in costco like 50% of the time
Halal??!! 😂
We’re talking about health benefits here not whether or not they sang a prayer before killing it
@johnsalariane6216 You must be slow
Best usda choice deal at Costco is requesting the whole chuck. It's around 5 or 6 a lb. It produces steaks, some roasts and good ground beef. Good variety. You just gotta request it by calling in the morning because they usually cut it themselves and charge more.
We love the Costco flap steak. Super good. The thin cut rib eyes are also great for our family.
Is the sirloin flap steak the same as a skirt steak?
Thank you for zooming into the prices.
Seven Sons farms in Indiana does all grass fed grass finished. Beef, chicken, pork, bison, lamb. Ships to your door.
He's just a likeable person. Geniuine. Simple. Straightforward
😂
Listening to this guy three minutes and I’m done
Grass fed/grass finished beef at Sam’s Club as well!!
Eye of round makes great beef jerky. Even with it having no fat it’s easy to mix 250 grams fat into hot water and salt to taste. Yummy!
That’s really interesting if true. I used to eat Atlantic salmon pretty often but gave it up for the sockeye salmon.
Day 4 of getting Paul to reveal his full workout split 💪
He’s on gear fyi
@ that’s literally impossible
@@giancarlodisalvo1784bro is not on gear🤡🤡 cope
he’s talked about it before, he does a lot of mobility stuff and strength training, but nothing crazy he says he doesn’t bench any more. Besides that a lot of surfing too, he’s just a very active guy
@ I’ve seen that video, but It would be great to get a full workout split
Sirloin cap into picanha steaks is the absolute greatest bang for buck.
Are the steaks at Costco grass fed? It wasn't clear in the video?
Costco needs to get on board and offer grass fed beef options. The demand is high enough now as more people understand the big difference on your body.
They have it at the business center in primal form.
Awesome!!! Thanks Paul have a blessed day.
I love your work bro. Your influenceing people to long term health.
I was surprised that Paul didn't show that you can get a large roast of New York strips and picanha for about $8 a pound at Costco.
And if the Top sirloin roast isn't out you can usually get someone's attention in the butcher area and they will pull some out.
Costco ground beef comes mostly from New Zealand where they don't use chemicals like that in farming. Its not legal.
One of the Greatest Stories ever told, Thank You
Paul have you ever thought about doing a podcast with Carnivore Coach Cam? I believe the two of you would be interesting!😊
Costco blade tenderize their precut steaks. Only buy primal from Costco. And buy chuck rolls, under 5 bucks a lb
Yep I just got a case, $290. 4.25 a lb
@@mattsnookman34224 Sweet Awesome ❤
What is primal at coscos?
Amazing video and overview of different choices of meat to add variety to a diet! So valuable info, Paul! Thanks!
Sams has grass fed/finished steaks right now. Ive bought a few packs and put in the freezer. Best part is its priced well. 4 filets are $29. For filets thats a good price. I believe the other is some sirloin cut thats two for $18
We don’t have a Costco, just a Sam’s. Wish more people covered Sam’s.
@@MFV77 Opposite. We have Costco's everywhere but Sam's only in the burbs 35 miles away.
Hi Paul! Thanks for sharing. I wanted to ask you about smoking meat. Good way to preserve food or dangerous? What about Dehydrating? Curing meat with salt? I am from Argentina and basicaly we love eating raw ham and salami. Thanks!!
Excellent video, thank you, brother.
Costco is my spot.
I'm seriously wondering about your lamb recipe though, that looked amazing...
I used to be a huge fan of Costco’s red meat, but sadly, that’s no longer the case. Here’s why:
Great then you have united nation meat which is a good thing.😀
Very interesting. I found an Amish. Couple that sell grass fed milk and sell their cows for $3 lbs hanging weight. I tried a piece last yearBeef is nice and dark. Not sure if it's better or worse but I'm thinking of buying it this year. Like half a cow.
where do you buy meat now?
@@chanmunguit6004 Yep! With end game goal you don’t eat red meat only fake soybean meat!
#1 can be resolved by buying the primals that are not blade tenderized.
#2 is certainly a valid concern.
Thanks for the video! Cool to see Costco has grass fed ground beef now!
Thanks! And thanks for your work to make us healthy.
Do the heart and soil supplements actually bridge the gap completely if you don't eat the organ meats?
I'm unsure if it's new, but Costco sells two different Wild-caught Pacific Salmon in the frozen section.
Bruh I just did my Costco run yesterday wish I had waited for today after this video!
I go to smiths - (regular grocery store) and I regularly look at the daily discount section- no need to go to Costco
We can Get Grass Finish Beef at Costco in Canada. 😊
Need a video on how to source organs Paul please. I'm in Los Angeles
Love these style of videos Paul!
In Colorado, we can also get ground bison. I read the brand literature and apparently it's prairie raised, grass fed.
I didn’t realize "organic" meant organic grain-fed. I much prefer the idea of grass-fed, as long as the grass hasn’t been treated with pesticides. Thanks
Suprised you didn't talk about the brisket since its like 3.89-4.49 a lb for prime
Love your videos thank you so much.
I was wondering what water filter should I buy for drinking water
A reverse osmosis filter will do the job and you can get one on Amazon 😉
One thing that never comes up when talking about 'grass fed' meat is the glyphosate issue.
If there is even trace percentages in the grass that animals are exclusively fed when raised, should this be taken into consideration when weighing the health benefits?
Thank you for all the info, not just from this video 👍🏼
Costco Prime grass fed grain finished is fantastic.
Thanks Paul you need to shop at the business Costco the meat selection is much better
My costcos only have the grass finished frozen patties, been waiting for ever for the fresh. Hope we get it soon
I hope the grass-fed ground beef will become available at my Costco in Hawthorne California sooner rather than later!🦋👣
Great Costco topic vid.
Wish the customers at my local Costco were as seemingly courteous as yours was in this video.
Mine they just run you over with their carts and barely acknowledge you’re there like we’re all in another tp shortage, only we’re not.
Watch where you’re driving your shopping carts people! Jeeze.
Be polite like on here.
What if the grass finished is gmo grown grass?
Over on the Kirkland fields in AZ, the cows eat grass all day on the mountain hills. If it's that beef, those are actually prime.
This is a great vid.
Great channel
