I just did this two weeks ago with my rear bib. had busted from frost 30+ years ago, and I just never used it in all this time, but then I decided I would like to get it running again so, having had experience with shark bites twice before over the years with no leaks ever, I decided to finally replace the bib. Unfortunately, my water line elbows right at the bib connection, so I couldn't use the SharkBite bib, but DID use a SharkBite elbow to get connected after I torched the old soldered elbow off and sanded the pipe. NO SOLDERING, NO WORRIES. Saved a piece of bread too, wink-wink. Now I have a drip irrigation line running from the bib to a flower bed that I get too lazy to hose regularly, and the petunias are ecstatic!

Wish I had such easy access to my plumbing. Only crawl spaces in SW Washington. Nasty.

I usually don’t do negative comments but I do not recommend this product to anyone who intends to do a permanent installation. Two of my parents’ bathrooms and a water bib have this product and all have failed SharkBite connectors. This is from two different installations from two different plumbing companies at two separate times. Both bathrooms are leaking and the water bib outside caused MAJOR damage after a freeze earlier this year. It’s going to cost thousands of dollars to get all the repairs needed done. It’s been an absolute nightmare. Buyer beware.

"MAJOR damage after a freeze earlier this year. It’..."
I suspect if the pipe freezes and will burst anyway I'm better off if the fitting comes apart than have to re dig the water main to replace it IMO on it ...

..i got the expansion tool and pex A , and used it some but the fittings were only at home despot and cost the same almost as sharkbite , so they were sold out [edit: of a bunch of expansion fittings i needed] , and i was thinking bargain shop online anyway , but i had to get it done so i put the sharkbite and it's good,..my worry is keeping all UV away from pex and i see 5 gallon HDPE buckets brittle as heck outside after a year or so ...that's my worry if i can keep copper, it's proven longevity ...
EDIT2 : I think the 3/4 or 1" is less likely to freeze than 1/2 " when i think about the diameter freezes faster, while the expansion pex fittings have no reduction ...also pex thermo pex is 200 something F and regular pex 200F and some but 100 or even 300 feet is under 12 gallons level and at 200 F that much water is BS imo as far as heating the floor or for solar heater maybe just use a black bucket , larger
Thanks for the vid I'm reviewing stuff to maybe redo a floor under a water heater , so it'd be fast to use sharkbite to snap it back together same day and redo the line , and old mess fittings on it later ...
