    The shooting foul on the body needs to be recognized amongst pickup ballers! Too many times someone has ran and chest bumped me or turned into my legs while I was in the air for a shot. “That’s a foul” “WHAT?!? My hands didn’t even touch you!!”

      your right, that happens to me too... I usually then do the same back to them when they shoot and ask how they like it... I am 6'2 and 290 pounds so I dont worry about physical fights when there is a disagreement because I am usually the biggest on the court and nobody want to mess with me LOL .... 😁😎💪🤪

      I used to get the same at your age, I was 6 foot 1 at your age and on the fast break I only had to take 3 dribbles down the court and 0 dribbles if on the fast break from the 3 point line. kids will think your traveling because of the ground your covering but in reality your bigger than them and you have great footwork

      That was the opposite for me! I would try to get the ball and coming from a football background I’d get called for fouling when I would try to get the ball

    I have a question my one of my friends gets aggressive in basketball 2v2. So starting from a check ball they get really close to me with their chest pressed up to the point where I can’t move or am falling back. Is there a foul call in this situation and is there a way around it. Also let’s say I’m planted but stick my elbow out so they don’t press would that be a foul on my end???

    • @bballcoachallen
      @bballcoachallen  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      he can play close and even up on you. But he cant knock you off your feet as that would be a foul on him. Do a step through jab to get him off you th-cam.com/video/WShDMZKb4ek/w-d-xo.html

    Hello, I have a question : when pro players dunk on a defender how come fouls are never called ?
    Also how much can you push on an attacking player before a foul is called ?
    Thanks a lot !

    • @bballcoachallen
      @bballcoachallen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      as a defender you can stand your ground and make contact with the other player but you can not instigate the contact... if an offensive player makes contact with you its a foul on him... However keep in mind incidental and minor contact is generally not called in most leagues (depending on refs)

    What if a stronger player is driving for a layup but their shoulders are dropped like they are a playing rugby and the defender stands their ground but due to being less stronger of the two the defender is pushed back. Whos foul is it?

    is there a certain degree of strength required in a slap for it to constitute a foul? if someone is driving and they get a light slap on the wrist or forearm would this still be a foul? or would it not count as a foul because it didn't hinder the players drive?

  • @Grobb243

    Dude this sport is highly entertaining and fun but also its one of the sports with the worst approach on fouls. It favors offense too much. Football (soccer) is the best one on how a potential contact sport should be regulated.

    Heya coach, I'm a 6'1 15 year old guy, so I play a lot of basketball though I've never been on an actual team due to a military parent, but I do play a lot of pickup. I plan to try out for my high school basketball team as a freshman. I do notice that I play a little aggressive, during pickup, such as when I'm trying to make blocks. One scenario that occurs often is when someone is shooting, I really try to get up there and block it, sometimes I miss though and they get the ball through, but I might accidentally touch them on the hand a little **after** the ball has left their arm. So they are no longer touching the ball and I'm recovering from my jump and accidentally brush their arm, could this be a foul? Is it really just depending on the ref?

    • @bballcoachallen
      @bballcoachallen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yea lol depends on the ref, technically if its incidental contact that doest affect the ball it shouldn't be a foul ... but refs are human and make mistakes or have their own ideas ... being aggressive on defense is good in my opinion

      Some different ways are to get the defender off their feet, or beat them off the dribble, or you can use your body if the defender is moving. ... This is actually a great topic for a video I will need to cover but I do somewhat cover some tips here: Kyle Lowry video: th-cam.com/video/X5l7yN1mmIg/w-d-xo.html

    Really trying to understand this our but failing to comprehend. I see players valued for fouls constantly in the nba when they are really the ones that are getting ran into..if you collide with another player but its neither players fault.. why is a foul called,? Wondering why the refs seem so foul happy??

    • @bballcoachallen
      @bballcoachallen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      if two players hit each other it should be a foul on both players. However if a player makes contact with another player the player making the contact gets the foul. Refs are also human and make mistakes
