    Dude, you are awesome. The two things I’m scared shtless about breaking are the alternator(generator) and smart box and you have videos on both. I wish I had people like you around to show me things like this, I’m great as long as there’s a video showing but hmmwv’s are scarce so not too many videos.

      @@mygooglusername Do you have to have any kind of controller to extended the time the glow plugs are activated or a certain heat temp? From what I read, most glow plug controllers stay on for a bit after the engine is started and I assume just direct electric just pumps as much energy into the glow plug as the relay allows?
      I assume any 24 switch or button would work?

      Momentary switch. I hold it down for 4 seconds. So they are only activated when button is held down. Been working good like that.

    What a great video. Thank you so much. So why you didn’t use the original harness?. Can’t you just cut the harness that come on it?.

    Going to be doing this set up soon. Very informative and also for me video on how to do things is better then word for word. Awesome video. I know its been acouple yrs but how has everything held up?

    Just came across your video. And thank you tremendously for taking your time to do this. Curious about what momentary switch you used, where you got the new glow plug wires and how you tied the new wires into the cut cannon plug. Thanks again for your help and time.

      I left orig wire harness connected and just zip tied out of the way. Put new set on glow plugs and cut the other end off and twisted together and connected to the output of my solenoid. I think in my vid I explain the hook up. I'm gonna look at vid now to see if I put a wiring diagram on there. Here is the eBay item number:284476247878 for harness.

      @@mygooglusername thank you sir for the info and run down. Does the momentary switch have to be rated for 24v also or does it matter?

      @@jonathangerman671 i dnt believe it matters. Its just supplying low amp/24v to the solenoid. Good luck. I think i got it from ace due to i dnt c it in my amazon history

      @@mygooglusername I got everything hooked up. I decided to put an inline 40amp fuse for the 8ga power leg to the battery. I keep blowing that fuse. How long are you holding your button in? Perhaps I’m holding mine too long? I don’t know. Thanks for your time.

      I hold for 4 secs then release and wait 2 secs before hitting starter. Its a big draw on the batts. If you wait a couple secs the voltage will come back up a little for a strong start.

    It’s been a while now. Did you run into any issues running the motor like that? Also, is the third red wire with the momentary switch wires going through the firewall the one running to the starter you mentioned first in the video?

      No issues. So far still doing its thing and yes momentary switch goin thru inside

    Awesome Video! What are you using for your momentary switch? Are you just using the stock switch? then turning over to start? This is definitely an upgrade and better than that stock "smart box".

  • @mygooglusername
    @mygooglusername  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mine, no power to starter from distribution box and glow plugs not getting power. If yours is turning over but not starting, check that your fuel solenoid is getting power with ignition on position. These motors are simple, they need fuel,air and heat to start.

    I did the same thing .. and I can't get a burn at the glowplugs... Everything is new .. wiring harness..push button.. 24vt 200 amp relay..it clicks when I push the button but no burn... I tried coming off the generator with 24vt..I ran straight to the battery.. And nothing... the 1st positive is the 24vt right..?

      I found the problem... Man sold me 12 volt glowplugs so 1st time o hit the button it fried them... luckily I had a set of 24 volt glowplugs stuck back in my shed.. So it works fine now

      They tried to make them as automatic as possible. The smart box is supposed to give the glow plugs the correct amount of heat as needed. Only problem is they fail. This is why the momentary switch is a better option

  • @robmcmichael
    @robmcmichael 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I mightve missed it or I am just retarded, but the other end of the harness that you dyked off is the glowplug wires correct? So you just cut off the cannonplug? Does all this cancel out the start box and TSU?

    • @mygooglusername

      Bought a new set of glow plug wire set. Left the orig hooked up and tied out the way. If i rem correctly. Put new ones on glow plugs and wired to my solenoid. If this is not the answer u were wanting. Write back.

      Please correct me if needed someone said you can’t put directly 24 V to glow plugs you need to use resistor with manual switch system because the original smart box controls the current (volts) please let me know thank you

      @@leonlevit7045 I was reading conflicting views also. Some saying the voltage gets converted down to 12v at the plug but multiple HMMWV owners tested and they were getting 24v at the plug. So the switch is fine.
