Not to the extent of the prior generation. The boomers aren't retiring. Many can't afford to. So the millenials as a generation are being held by from higher paying jobs as a result. This is a vicious circle, since millenials therefore won't have money to retire, and so on. UBI is an inevitability, else the country will crumble. That's where we're at. Thanks, capitalism! it’s so sick people think all homeless are drug dealers, some people can get very hurt and the hospital bills are too high for them to pay they end up in dept then homeless , it’s a sad reality
Sounds like you have no clue about anything regarding the homeless lmao People need to survive on the street and most are forced to turn to less than legal means to somehow stay alive, it has nothing to do with drug dealing being "bad" it's about survival and people will do what they need to do, if you think it's somehow not true a lot of homeless may eventually turn to illegal means after they've been on the streets for years and years you're obviously naive as shit lmao And of course that only accounts for a few people, some stay true to their morality and that in itself gives them a reason to live.
I am dealing now with a lawyer who sounds like she is 12. She cannot communicate at all and has no follow up skills. If he's out in Hollywood the ageism is probably worse. Try to get out of la la land if possible and you may encounter people who appreciate your experience and skills.

When I was Homeless without a car, money, etc. the worst Enemy was homeless people who steal from you or threaten you. Sleeping on cardboard out in the desert in Palm Springs for a month in June away from other homeless people was nice in the soft sand, with the stars and 80 degrees, and talking to God. Nowadays, I sleep in my mini-van and cheap motels on the coast or in orange county.

For a lot of us born into poverty, it’s a hard road avoiding homelessness because we don’t have those parents to bail us out if things go sour financially. That’s the same case for some senior citizens who no longer have the safety net of family.
I have to live under siege with the police threatening to take my home of 54 years for back taxes. I will shoot the cops if they try to forcefully enter my domicile.
I couldn’t agree more. I honestly don’t know how anyone can make it without family support. I’ve taken in several teens over the last couple years to try to help them. Even young people end up homeless on a regular basis. A full time minimum wage job doesn’t cover even the basics anymore. Let alone a car or insurance. We have little to no public transit.
The problem is not having family or not, like Mary Jenkins said, your family can be poor and unable to help you or they can be violent and mean. The problem is not enough social resources against poverty to help and to give a chance to poor people to be able to achieve the same level of comfort as those who began with richer families and who have more opportunities from that position already have.
I was thinking/dreaming about a project that you build a smaller lighter version of the teardrop trailer. But make it so that you could pull it with a bike, manpower, or a vehicle. Be a you build two and get one system. Then you could sell the other one to pay for the supplies. I know it’s not an ideal solution. But it beats a tent or the sidewalk. A locking door would perhaps allow a little rest and security. And by selling one they would then become less of an eyesore or be recognizable with being homeless. A roof over your head no matter how humble gives hope. I just wish more could be done in a practical way.

In California .. in order for someone to employ him they need to pay Workman's Comp in advance and have his salary in the bank in advance and they need to pay a huge fine if they do not have the money to pay him (labor board). They need to have $2.5 in the bank for every $1 paid to an employee (including health care plan). So businesses closed by COVID 19 cannot employ until their cash flow comes back. Businesses destroyed by riots need to have the money to repair all the damage and then buy all new inventory to sell (and then sell a lot of it) before they have the bank roll to hire employees. Ageism is real.....yet the boomers are the best generation to hire.....best work ethics

Sounds like you have no clue about anything regarding the homeless lmao People need to survive on the street and most are forced to turn to less than legal means to somehow stay alive, it has nothing to do with drug dealing being "bad" it's about survival and people will do what they need to do, if you think it's somehow not true a lot of homeless may eventually turn to illegal means after they've been on the streets for years and years you're obviously naive as shit lmao
And of course that only accounts for a few people, some stay true to their morality and that in itself gives them a reason to live.
Drug dealers are doing fine. It's high rent and no jobs that put people on the streets.
His second wish is to get a job at 60. If that isn’t a hardworking man, I don’t know what is.

I just wish more could be done in a practical way.
so give them UBI problem solved not all or many really are helped by family and many are destroyed in family -

what an intelligent guy - someone needs to employ him and do themselves a favor
In California .. in order for someone to employ him they need to pay Workman's Comp in advance and have his salary in the bank in advance and they need to pay a huge fine if they do not have the money to pay him (labor board). They need to have $2.5 in the bank for every $1 paid to an employee (including health care plan). So businesses closed by COVID 19 cannot employ until their cash flow comes back. Businesses destroyed by riots need to have the money to repair all the damage and then buy all new inventory to sell (and then sell a lot of it) before they have the bank roll to hire employees. (and they need to pay rent per sq ft, electric and lights, and .. personal needs like lunch area and bathroom) It is going to be a while (if ever)
