I got to play Star Wars Outlaws early... (Should You Buy?)

- I wanted invited by Ubisoft to play Star Wars Outlaws early on a hands on session in Los Angeles just before Ubisoft Forward. The session involved 3x missions that will take place in the game and allowed me to experience Parkour, Combat, Exploration as well as try out some of the new features added into the latest Ubisoft Open World Game.
In this video I share some of my thoughts, impressions and opinions of the game which is largely positive; hopefully this breakdown gives you more of an idea on what you think of it and whether it's worth the purcvhase!

Star Wars Outlaws is the first open-world Star Wars game, will launch on August 30 on Xbox Series X|S consoles, PlayStation 5, Amazon Luna and PC through Ubisoft Connect.
Fans who subscribe to Ubisoft+ or purchase the Gold Edition or Ultimate Edition of the game can enjoy up to three days early access*, and those who preorder before August 30 will receive the "Kessel Runner Bonus Pack" which includes cosmetics for Kay’s speeder and for her ship, the Trailblazer.
Ubisoft revealed more details about cunning scoundrel Kay Vess and her companion Nix’s search for an opportunity of a lifetime. During this era, the Empire’s rule is distracted by the rebellion that won’t quit, leading to a golden age for the underworld. As a skilled thief, Kay’s antics catch the attention of Sliro, the leader of a new, foreboding criminal syndicate Zerek Besh.
After Sliro places a bounty on Kay’s head, Kay and Nix are offered their one shot at freedom - pull off one of the greatest heists of all time. Kay and Nix will need to navigate the underworld across the galaxy, building their reputation with legendary criminal organizations including the Pyke Syndicate, the Hutt Cartel, the Ashiga Clan and Crimson Dawn to earn the support they need to finish the job.
Kay and Nix will travel across the galaxy to gain the right resources and crew for the ultimate heist. In their journey, they’ll travel across distinct locations, both iconic and new: Canto Bight, Kijimi, Tatooine, Akiva, and the windswept savannah of Toshara.
Along the way, Kay will explore bustling cities and cantinas, race across sprawling outdoor landscapes on her speeder, and pilot her ship the Trailblazer through the wilds of space. When things go awry, the Trailblazer will also help them chase, evade and attack to gain the upper hand in thrilling dogfights with the Empire and other foes.

So I'm already up for it. What's still important at ubisoft games is the story and characters as they are written. Because ubisoft creates beautiful worlds and good gameplay. But stories have been weak for years and therefore a ubisoft game is never a goty. Whether assassins creed, watch dogs, avatar. I think after the release I'll buy it. This is hands down, the best post breakdown I've seen since Ubisoft Forward. I think this will be a day 1 purchase for me but I'm a little concerned about the gun management, seems a bit fiddly/annoying, but perhaps it'll become easier over time (just like Hogwarts Legacy). I agreed. I'm just passing through here on this game and found this post on my TH-cam feed. I concur; this is one of the best-detailed explanations for people like myself seeking more information about the game. As a Star Wars fan, I've already pre-ordered the basic game, and based on your review, Andy, I'm satisfied with my purchase and can't wait to dig into the Star Wars story again.

the limited time I had with it (literally about 10seconds haha) felt awesome mate, they designed it around a swedish motocross bike and it felt pretty awesome to ride (similar feeling I got when jumping on a broom in Hogwarts Legacy for the first time; just good fun!) I have good hopes for this game. I enjoy that you can use Nixx as a sidekick more in the game and be strategic about ones approach , also like another protagonist. I wouldnt be surprised if Nixx can even be used in minigames as Sabacc which has be confirmed. They really use all characters which I see as very positvt. No waste of NPCs as other Ubi titlees. Greqt vid. And +1 of other commenters, combat seems very wonky until one will probably get into it .
Great thoughts mate and I do agree! I also want to see this Nix animation in Sabacc definitely one of those games where I reckon I would be happy to sit down at the table and play it for a few hours (like hearthstone on the ipad). Definitely right about the combat though, gonna take some time to acclimatize with the range combat focus/cooldowns! Hope you enjoyed the vid btw man, genuinely always great hearing what you think

Thanks for covering what you experienced. I hadn't seen anyone else mention the option to turn on an "autocomplete" for minigames. That's a good feature.

I actually fell in love more with the game after seeing how Nix faints with his distraction .. it made me laugh and smile with joy and also the graphics and gameplay is way “UNIQUE “ and “STUNNING” from previous Star Wars gameplay… this, black myth wukong. & AC shadows are the only good, best & wonderful game only in 2024!!!!
This is probably wishful thinking but i'd love for there to be a range of alternative gameplay loops such as trading, bounty hunting, the ability to purchase difference ships / player homes.
The sort of stuff that really makes an open world RPG for me.

I haven’t heard a single person say this yet in any videos but at the Sabbak Table the guy with the cape is Lando Calrissian! An amazing Easter egg, remember how he told Han that while he was frozen he won a ship in a Sabbak game! Truly amazing and seriously surprised no one has said that, btw you even showed footage from one of the movies showing Lando wearing the exact outfit in game!

I’m truly interested in seeing how many more Easter eggs there are in this game, I honestly think it’s going to be off the charts in eggs lol. We need a game that’s open world with different planets that we’re able to choose either sith or Jedi and still be able to fight in space.
My main criticisms so far are that most enemies would probably shoot Nixx on sight instead of being "distracted," Kay shouldn't be knocking out armored troops barehanded, and explosive barrels are placed way too... conveniently.

I'm wondering if while flying the Trailblazer out in space, if you can completely stop and get out of your cockpit and walk around the Trailblazer like in Assassin's Creed Blackflag or in Star Citizen.

@@AndyReloads I think both look fantastic. For Outlaws I’m really liking the concept of going from land to space quickly without long loading screens. As for Shadows the more of it I see the less I can choose between which character to main. I’ll most likely decide mission by mission whether to use Naoe or Yusake.
Same situation for me. I am both Star Wars and AC fan. But I have to choose between the two. Outlaws is the one that can wait fot sale. Shadows is pre-order Gold. Been waiting for a game like that for a decade already.
Do you think we will be able to change to a different character or unlock or buy one once we finish the main storyline.
The game does sound good overall but combat does sound fiddly in the beginning until u get use to it. I did enjoy the gameplay in squadrons but being able to stay locked on and follow someone definitely sounds like cheating. I guess it might be good for people who get motion sickness but overall its a bit cheap
yeh you're spot on mate, I think it's good to keep in mind that I was playing a few missions in the middle of the game and can't comment on the initial tutorial or tips the game gives to switch back and forth effectively, but I reckon after a few hours practice it'll be smooth! Yeh I hear about the flying, there are some good settings to tweak in the menus to make it more challenging which I did like, but definitely need more time with the game to fully decide, pretty positive though!

Interested to see the gun/ability combat, and feel like it's going to be clunky to begin with, but once you're even 5 hours in, going to be a breeze, probs going to play Xbox Controller on PC like I do for Jedi FO/Survivor, and nice to hear the comparisons as I've 100% both of those, so exciting to hear the movement/traversing is very nice!
I usually get quite lost in open-world games, is it reasonably linear, or is it like Starfield style fully open?

The main drawing point of this game for me is definitely the presentation, all the spaces look sooo good and I really wanna finally see the underworld a bit better (I hoped Book of Boba would deliver some of that but we all know how that went). I also quite like the look of the combat system. Space combat doesn't look amazing but I appreciate that it's there + I feel like it's pretty difficult to create good spaceship combat without having your entire game revolve around it. And gotta be honest, not hugely interested in the main story and idk maybe it's a hot take but I feel like that commando droid with the trench coat would have made for a more interesting main character instead of "Han Solo but female"

Fantastic video. Im definitely getting this, i love the ship and speeder and the versatility. However i truly do wish we could pick a male protagonist. I have nothing against females, i just prefer to play as a male character. However i will still love this

Looks like Division with blasters. Combat doesn’t look good but the story can make up for it. Wish we could make our own character. Should be automatic for game immersion now days.
i’m hoping for not another far cry/ac hybrid gameplay we need new gameplay mechanics in having a good mindset jumping into this just for the name of star wars open world. i need the swkotor remake that was supposed to drop

Nothing that I could see at the moment mate, really hope they do include this as there's art made by the studio with headpieces etc (thumbnail is a mockup from a Ubi artist)
I've done a ton of research and from what I can tell the team making the game are true star wars fans(including EU) I also believe that the time period the game is set in is to avoid the newer star wars canon and be a little more faithful to George lucas's version.
I'm not usually positive about Ubisoft games but I really see the love and care they put into this so much so that I pre-ordered the basic game today.
Although I still believe different editions at different price points is a scummy game practice,but that is always a publisher issue and not usually a developer decision.

It's Ubisoft. Ever since Far Cry 5 and AC Origins, everything is compass.
Remember this is a ubisoft game. Wait for the review after release not on 3 levels that run nicely compared to the rest.

If you can skip a mandatory minigame then it isn’t mandatory…
You can't skip it mate unless you go deep diving in the settings menu which most people won't know, cheers
People just needed to look at the game this way it is red Dead redemption in space 99% of red dead Redemption combat is also just gun play and a star wars Game don't need Force power I can't wait to play a han solo like open world game

So 90% of the gameplay is switching your gun or throwing a lizard at people and the movement system sucks. And some Starfox fights.

I'm really happy you got flown out and got to play this early but I can't take advice from someone who can't give a negative review in fear of losing out on future games from Ubisoft and being flown out to play. Biased review. You can't be impartial now
totally get where you're coming from man, this is why I like to be super clear in videos and state how this review/video came about! That said, I've spoken at length to the UK Ubisoft team where It's important for me to be able to constructively criticize games when these opportunities come around before accepting invites to play early (which to their credit, they're completely on board with) and tbf, I do mention quite a lot of things I don't like in the game so far in this video, and have provided first hand feedback to the developers. But on this review I'm can't watch it without thinking there is a hidden biased, even if you don't know it's there. I will play the game as a massive Star Wars fan my entire life but I'm not optimistic due to what Disney has done to Star Wars recently but will try to keep an open mind. All the best.

Just not feeling this game, it looks boring and I am not a fan of stealth. Looks like all you can do is shoot or stealth. Story seems generic. Not digging the character you play as. At least the environments look good but so does jedi survivor…so prob gonna stick with that.
